You know where you can find overpasses like that in the Northeast? Try the Merritt Parkway in Connecticut or the GW Parkway in Maryland and Virginia. But unlike the Don Valley in Toronto, they don't allow TRUCKS on Parkways in those three states, neither in New York State nor in Massachusetts. At least there, the name Parkway MEANS something. If Toronto had the same restriction, your drive might have been a bit quicker. :)
3:05 - you passed my house! My backyard goes as far back as the DVP pretty much. The noise is not too bad on weekdays though because the traffic is usually heavy so cars aren't going terribly fast, especially heading south towards downtown.
Hey freewaybrent, wanna come over here to Vancouver, BC again in 2013? By that time, the PMH1 (Port Mann/Hwy 1) project which involves the widening of one of our only freeways in Metro Van to 8 lanes, and the construction of soon to be the widest bridge in the world, will be completed.
in canada, we do not have "routes" we just have highways. thusly it is not ontario route 401, it is simply "the 401", same with "the 404". and canada does not have "freeways" as every single highway except the 407 is free(and, no. the 407 will not take your american E-Z Pass)
the DVP and gardiner expressways are owned by the city of toronto, not the government of ontario. the 404, 401, 400, etc are owned and maintained by the province and are highways, the DVP and gardiner are expressways or 'routes'.
@Yazdmich Quebec has routes because "route" is the French translation of "highway." But Ontario and I believe most other provinces call them highways.
Looks like you caught the DVP on a relatively good day for traffic. I work in an office building next to the highway (you can see it on the right at 2:24, before the twin tunnel railway underpass) and it's always crammed with traffic, north and southbound all day long.
if you were merging onto the DVP from the 401 or 404 it is very busy because there are like 7 on-ramps merging into 1 (at least 7 lanes down to 3 lanes 0: )here is the list:
That's very true, but considering that locals know the Don Valley Pkwy and the 404 as separate roadways, I wanted to do the same. Plus it's fairly hard to find a 7 minute song, although I do have a decent collection of 7 minute+ dance songs.
@FreewayBrent there's always tiesto with his hour-long cuts you can tap into... i know you wanted to film it so you kinda got stuck but next time exit lawrence west and take don mills road north to sheppard. you can get back on 401 or 404 from there. if you make a channel called ShortcutsBrent i can help you out with Toronto and southern ontario :)
That video was shot in Toronto and it is the same overpass. In the Rush video it is shown looking south and in this video it is shown looking north. The arch opening on the right was added several years ago when a new on-ramp was added to the DVP.
yes there are a ton overpasses like that here in New Jersey ,New York , Connecticut, Massachusetts , Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island , mainly on the Parkway system here and Railway overpasses.
I haven't noticed too many so far, but I've only been in Vermont, New Hampshire and northern Mass, so far (as well as Boston). I'll probably notice them more, as I continue my way down to NYC, next week.
The lower DVP (start of the video) has small, low, but bright lights that shine only down. The highway in these sections is lower than buildings surrounding, so it isn't any more obtrusive, thankfully, than standard lighting.
The upper sections have the high-mast lighting, and they too are mostly below surrounding buildings (the highway's in a valley). The lighting, while bright, is aimed only at the highway itself.
I lived in Tornoto and it's a very nice video. Could you please put on another one with normal speed?

A municipal freeway. The others in Toronto are the Gardiner Expressway and the Allen Expressway. Not sure of any others in Canada.

You could have just integrated a 404 tour into the DVP tour, its essentially the same highway. Nice job.
