Not sure if anyone knew this.....but when this track was produced, the idea behind the phone sound was to indicate that when Clef spits that his flow is "off the hook"....since the phone sound is what the old land line phones used to sound like when it was off the hook.

In old school hip hop, "off the hook" was the same as "off the chain", "off the meter", etc.

When this track came out, the beat was considered sick because of the creativity.
