Closer than you think. Ever heard the band Mistress? Similar sound, without the blues scales and more dirty, dark sounds. They were often called grind/sludge' because they had intense, fast passages similar to full on grind, then slower more grooving sections closer to sludge metal. Soilent Green do the same, although they do it with much better flow.
