This man I'm sure has fallen many of trees and very skilled but my self throwing my two cents thinks it's foolish to not notch, back cut and wedge if needed. Thanks for posting was cool to see a tree of this size fall:-). To everyone else be safe and think twice while falling trees!!
This is the second video you have posted that is just not safe. The guy not cutting is standing right in line where the saw could swing back and out of the cut. Complacency is a killer!!!
@r1skate People like you are only alive because modern-day society has created a world where natural selection no longer exists. Do the universe a favor and go kill your self.
I would like to further understand how the Dutchman works. From seeing the video I figure the tree has little or no lean to it. So he put the hing to the opposite side to where he wanted the tree to fall. Therefor changing the center of gravity and causing the tree to pull itself "or having extra weight" to the direction being felled.
when u remove a wedge from one side, the weight is not supported and is almost entirely maintained by the other side under tension. u rotate around to basically, in metaphorical terms, cut the achilles tendon and the leg falls forward.
just another video of a bad tree being fallen. aint anything wrong with the technique, it is what the faller knows how to use. only thing bad in this vid is the idiot tryin to tell the faller what to do, if you have a pro doing the falling he is the boss.
First off . . I worked in the Cle Elum area for over 10 years and Choyce is "NO" legend . . check out the farmer face in the tree . . how deep it is . . saw sounds like a dog puking up a bone . .
Your comment proves to the tens of thousands of viewers that you are nothing more than a second-rate wannabe that is so jealous of a man who ran a highly successful timber-cutting operation for over a quarter of a century that you actually created a YouTube profile JUST so you could leave a comment trying to slam him. Remember that on YouTube, those that have no videos, have no clout. I'll leave your comment up so people can laugh at you.
Fell lots of old western red cedar snags for cedar salvage on the Washington coast. Nasty dangerous work. If you have a problem with this guys work...you never knew a thing! Show me your video "chainsaw", I need a good laugh! HA HA I'll buy Choyce a beer!
whats a farmer face ?we use conventionol notch most of the time, just to get the stumps low,in order to have ground clearance for our skiders.i like the humboldt for the big trees,i also no how to use aswing dutchmen, point being it takes all sorts of dif cuts.new england logger.
1. A swing-cut and a Dutchman are the same thing genius. 2. Because it's a snag being cut down for firewood. If you really knew what you were talking about you would have asked why the chain is so dull. And the answer to that is it's not the fallers chainsaw. Keep talking trash; I can't wait to see your videos...
I understand that no person is worth more or less than the next person. What is important is that we are all different, and have many things to learn from one another. Mutual respect, kindness, and helpfulness are all bi-products of anyone who practices this.
Just trying to learn from you smart guy, you still haven't explained why.
dreaded old school loggers mentality??...how does one who spent years out there in the real woods, doing actual real logging reply to your absurd remarks? well first off your "credentials" mean nothing to a man who has spent years years cutting down tree's, you sound like a 23 old fresh out of school...with all your "credentials". For every real logger out there that reads your comments, just know...WE ARE LAUGHING AT YOU SON
A "class A" faller card from the forest service means that you can only cut up to 8" dbh and require supervision. That's strange when you think about it. The government said you couldn't cut a tree even a tenth of that size of the one shown in the video.

oh yeah don't try and tell me its that hes worried about a barber chair either cause if that's the case he went about it all wrong from the beginning!
Thats strange, Im a certified arborists with credentials from the i.s.a. and have a class A fellers card from the u.s. forest service. So tell me why does he keep cutting and with one hand after the tree is committed, and please dont tell me its because hes worried about internal fiber tear cause it a snag.
The fact that you don't understand why he keeps cutting after the tree starts to fall proves to everyone else that reads this that you don't have a book. You are a 30-year old idiot.
awesome vid.nice job. couldnt tell model of saw but sounds like a throaty magnum. 048? just a guess. I have to laugh at these guys praising the junkuvarna. They obviously never ran a Stihl. Almost all the tree falling vids on you tube, the faller is useing a Stihl. Its because they are the best.
He actually agreed to do an instructional video on several different types of cuts for falling trees; each of which is used for a different purpose depending on the circumstances, but after we shot the video he decided to not allow me to publish it. The swing-cut he used here was unnecessary, but he was just doing it for fun.
Not only do Husqvarnas have more power, but they also have larger gas tanks so you spend more time falling trees and less time filling up. The saw in this video not only had a brand new chain (unsharpened) on it, but also did not belong to the faller. The man who had the faller fall it owned the chainsaw and wanted him to use it. The faller swears by Husqvarna. I'm glad we're all on the same page. Thanks for the comment friend.
According to the Husqvarna website, the most powerful saw is the 3120 XP with 8.4 hp whereas my STIHL book has the MS 880 at 8.6. But besides the power, you can go out and buy any husky you want, and Ill buy a comparable STIHL. Even if you cut a little faster than me the first day, come back in 10 years or even 25. Ill still have the same STIHL running the same the first day I bought it with no problems and youll have bought more than a few huskys by then.
Hey Man as one faller to another You do things a little differently as we do it in California but Helluve nice job keep posting videos I love to see different techniques.
I don't know if you watched the whole video, but at the end we measure the diameter of the stump. You can see there is no rot whatsoever. I don't know what gave you that idea. BTW, I like your videos man. Keep posting them!
man that stuff looks as soft as sassafras, 24" bar and file the drags down it would cut twice as fast, ive cut a 5 1/2 foot red oak with a 24" bar. thats awesome though keep posting videos, very interesting. 660 stihl big bore I cut in indiana
Mr. fuelguy this tree was killed by mistltoe. It's a Douglas Fir about 250 yrs. old. In the cascades a snag is any dead tree without any green. As for the specific faller: I don't feel there is such a faller is capable of falling all types of trees dead or alive. Also during ones career falling trees he will find himsewlf hanging via rope down the front of some cliff falling big tree growing on some ledge. He'll be specifically skilled and confident to know how to and live to tell not boast
Oh no. The chain is very dull. I should have mentioned that in the video description. Nice perception on your part! I'm really impressed you noticed something wasn't quite right. If you watch my other video of the guys cutting up the tree into firewood you will see how sharp chains cut!
:-) thanks. I work with saws too so I have some experience. I wanted to write also this possibility that the chain is dull, but I thought, if you go cut so huge tree and you have modifed saw, you are the master chain sharpener too :-) but nothing wrong about that :-) Once I was in stress and I add the chain opposite side on saw that was a surprise :-) good luck

You were lucky that this job didn't ended up in something bad!!
Where's the hinge?? Why did you use that front cut with that long sword??
You could've easily just used a normal cut!
