bach would never have recognized the old berlin he left behind over 240 years ago. he would be wondering: my god, how did the brandenburg gate move? did it suddenly grow legs over the centuries?
Thank goodness this evil symbol of hatred and oppression finally came down in 1989. I remember it well, but I am too young to remember the wall being built. Good riddance!
We have to thanked gorbachev entirely because of him the berlin wall collaspe followed by east germany followed by the entire eastern bloc and finally his own soviet union in his own hands.
Dead Wrong-The Germans did not create this conflict between the US/USSR-but, how can Germany be held unaccountable for the precipitating years of horror and death Germany visited upon Russia, Poland, France,my native Belgium, Britain, Holland, Denmark, Hungary, Czechoslovakia?
The Germans of today should not be held accountable, but this entire conflict between East and West and the ravaging murder of civilians in Russia was entirely GERMANY'S doing Entirely-
Yes, but do not forget that France policies (Versailles Treaty & invasion of the Ruhr) against Germany after the WW1. It caused an chain reaction that brought Hitler into power
Fair comment, poitrenaud. I am certainly not anti-American. Far from it.. I am part German and Serb, as well as British. I guess if we all look back, we tend to find a mixture within us. Many of my friends on here are American, and I love them very much. I did not agree with UK participation in the Iraq War without a UN mandate, though. Chirac was right on that, I think. Enough politics anyway.. It's a sad and violent world. Anything that can help to bring love and peace to all has my vote.
i know nowadays the us army are no more friends, like the were to us!!??
anyhow, we should to get freedom! but i only think it could be a clue, if the americans don´t think they are the makers, because it is already known, they are the army of fear, like germany was in 1943 ! so bush, asshole, think, sorry cou cant
The majority who fled East Berlin/East Germany during the Berlin Wall, were taken to a processing center in West Berlin that served the same purpose as immigration. Those identified as criminals, spies, terrorists et al were either returned to the East, or incarcerated. Castro wasn't the first to empty his prisons and send them to democracy. Milk & honey need to be protected from those who would take too much, give little, or poison both for everyone else.
The life of any human being is not of less importance. Mexicans, Central Americans, and South Americans included. Those "walls" and fences comprise far less than 95% of the overall border. Every one of my ancestors immigrated here legally, for many of the same reasons. Some as slaves called "indentured servants". My wife and her family immigrated legally from Argentina. Immigrations laws exist for many very good reasons, including to avoid spoiled milk and ant infested honey.
Now put a video of the wall brought up by the American government at the border of Mexico, where hundreds of Mexicans and central americans have been killed by border patrols and marines, as well as usa racists.
Uhh, excuse me, but the Berlin Wall was put up to keep people in, not out. People killed at the Berlin Wall were killed by Communist forces trying to escape Communist East Germany. The people killed had NO other option if they wanted to leave East Berlin.
The "hundreds" killed by border patrols and Marines must be getting killed by the Mexican government, if you want to make a comparison to Berlin. Slanderous unsubstantiated statements like yours are an insult to the Berliners.
Is the life of a mexican citizen less important to you. Do you think that the walls at the USA borders should keep people from leaving their own country, or avoiding them go into the land of 'milk and honey'.
I have no problem with people entering the US legally and then leaving the same way they came. if they decide they want to stay and build a life for themselves or their family, that's fine to. Apply for citizenship, learn the language, learn the history, pay taxes, and contribute something to society. Why is that too much to ask? Should your beloved Mexican citizens not have to abide by the same laws as the rest of us?

The wall would have never been there in the first place if the US did not invade Germany opening up the ability for Soviet rapist to enter.

What the Fuck are you High On?
The Americans saved the entire continent of Europe--and the British, too-
They saved our asses(I am French, born in Belgium)-And the Americans saved Russia by supplying them with materiel for their war machine-
I don't want to be harsh or disrespectful, but
Kindly Go Fuck yourself-
