But none have very big glaciers, & they tend to start higher. Those that have the kind of abrupt vertical relief of the Eiger [roughly 6,000 ft] are fewer: Tetons, Sierra Nevada, Pacific volcanoes, Alaska, Notch Peak, etc.

The best mountains the United States have are the Rocky Mountains... they are like the alps but a lot more closer together.
