i know sooo many people have already brought this up, but converse is saying "be individual... pave your own path..... originality is cool... but while your at it, buy a couple pairs of converse like everyone else.... BUT BE INDIVIDUAL!" irony alert. i like the pageant commercial, until they put the converse sign at the end. i was hoping it was just an anti-pageant commercial. they are soo degrading.. anywho... back to converse and their hypocracy....lol.
This commercial was just fine till they took a stab at video games outta nowhere. Converse is just getting desperate since all the 90s kids no longer like to pose their not so "classic" shoe anymore. What a load of corporate marketing crap. Sucking and dying is the only thing left for this shoe brand.
While what's said is a vastly under-expressed sentiment, slapping a corporate logo at the end of the commercial (however minimal in its marketing) is self-defeating. Most viewers are too cynical to take the message seriously otherwise.
I think it's ironic that Converse designed this commercial, considering that Converse shoes are the "poster child" for items of clothing that define conformity. I mean, if you actually look at all those "I'm so unique," self-proclaimed rebels, you'll notice one thing for sure: they're all wearing their "I'm-such-a-little-rebel" black Chucks. And Converse still thinks they have the right to critique superficiality?
All you people praising these ads are suckers. They are whoring out people's legitimate concerns for society to sell shoes. Hope you feel really badass and rebellious buying sweatshop-produced shoes from the people who brought you Space Jam.
Poetic and uncommon was the tone of this advertisement and the Converse "pageant" Ad. I do hope that there is a bit of "waking up" in some who watch it. If for nothing else, we should all agree time here is short and to not be an active part in the life you live, its as though you don't even exist.
Expecting people to watch a silent commercial is a surprise; then to read words on the screen-I'm shocked. All this time, I thought foreign films weren't watched here in the states because Americans cant be bothered with subtitles. I can only imagine the confusion in the general public when their televisions suddenly went silent with this Converse ad. I would go so far as calling a Public service announcement. The only thing left is to wait and for a response, if it was read at all.
The anti-commercial commercial. Brought to you by Nike via Converse. Obvious ad is obvious.

If I wasn't saving money for the coming great depression, I would buy a pair of Converse shoes.

This ad in nutshell:
STOP PLAYING GAMES. STOP WATCHING TELEVISION.
*buy Converse*
DO SOMETHING TO HELP THE WORLD
*buy Converse*
GET OFF THE COUCH AND DO SOMETHING
*like, for instance, buy two or three pairs of Converse shoes*
Could the irony be any sweeter than what Converse has displayed in these ads?

But obviously it's just a marketing ploy, because if it wasn't they would use a non-advertising related screen.
