God bless this man. I have no problem accepting that he didn't write this, but I truly believe this is his song. Behind the old and strong mortal voice, you can hear his soul breaking through, something I've never heard in any other version, nor have i heard in very many Cash songs. Johnny Cash was - he is a good man. He is my constant reminder of my faith. It's dark, but i don't miss him. I feel that we are responsible for carrying his name, and he can rest, and see how much we love him.

At least half of the songs Cash recorded are covers, probably more. Look at his discography on wikipedia or just look at the liner notes to a CD.  I expect many songs you think are his are not actually written by him. Doesn't take anything from him as an artist. He chose great material and interprets them well. I have had several conversations with Cash fans who were mistaken about this.
