  • im a man of 21 years and not the type to cry in front of my family but i watched this vid and listen to this song i felt a tear came out of my, and all i could say that, this is that this man is not a legend he is the legend. R.I.P JC

  • A-FUCKING-MAZING!

  • I really like Johnny Cash's later work. It seems a lot more darker.

  • i got this song from Colombiana

  • @warriner1290 So that gives you the right to beat her up and steal from her?

  • genial , infelizmente foi um gênio incompreendido

  • this is his song now... sorry trent

  • 20 dislikes what????????????

  • Definately a man thing this song, my GF thinks its hilarious that I turn into a big blob of man-tears where she is like...meh...

  • who can't relate to this song?

  • johnny cash's songs rule

  • fucken chills man...

  • God bless this man. I have no problem accepting that he didn't write this, but I truly believe this is his song. Behind the old and strong mortal voice, you can hear his soul breaking through, something I've never heard in any other version, nor have i heard in very many Cash songs. Johnny Cash was - he is a good man. He is my constant reminder of my faith. It's dark, but i don't miss him. I feel that we are responsible for carrying his name, and he can rest, and see how much we love him.

  • what have i become...my Swedish friend

  • R.I.P. Johnny you will be deeply missed :(

  • It was allways only for you... my pain...my dirt... my illnes...never a good things...

This is who I am... this is how I feel... this is my past, presence and future... allways have been and will be...

Im sorry for letting you down again and again...

    Goodbye my love...

  • @gigantor47 I would suggest that you visit Wikipedia and search "Hurt (Nine Inch Nails song)" then scroll down to point 4 "Johnny Cash's cover". Doing this should hopefully settle things for you. :)

  • en i vida escuche musica pero ninguna como esta tan significativa como lo es hurt un tema que envuelve la pasion y el dolor dentro de algo que es tan claro y tan inverosimil como la humanidad

  • im 11 years old and i listen to this instead off all of the songs now

  • @hello14036 same here but im 14 this musics so much better anyways

  • ^^^ A great song needs a cover doesn't it? Well you should check out this kid "Seth Rinehart" doing a modern cover ~ Hopefully you like it :)

  • shit is deep man!

  • poor man died of a broken heart :'(

  • This is great Johnny cash covered a nine inch nails song.

  • @Theblackmetalist nine inch nails did not make this he did

  • @gigantor47 Nine inch nails Trent Reznor is the original creator of this song Johnny cash covered i think i would know im a nine inch nails and a johnny cash fan man i know my facts.

  • @gigantor47 OMG! This was, like, 2002... NiN made this sooooooooo many years before... Go look it up, dickweed

  • @BATISTAOWNAGE alright i was wrong but really calling me a dickweed cuz im wrong i didnt wanna believe that such a good song writer would do a coverbut ya im a dickweed for trying to believe

  • @gigantor47

At least half of the songs Cash recorded are covers, probably more. Look at his discography on wikipedia or just look at the liner notes to a CD. I expect many songs you think are his are not actually written by him. Doesn't take anything from him as an artist. He chose great material and interprets them well. I have had several conversations with Cash fans who were mistaken about this.

  • @gigantor47

More specifically - on Unearthed (the collection this appears on) there are five discs with about 80 songs, and only about ten are written by Cash.

The name calling was uncalled for, but so is making definitive statements without even bothering to check if you are right.

  • i love this song but he really does look like a bulldog chewing on a wasp

  • @minimillar1 hes dying dumbass in the video hes dead now show respect!

  • @minimillar1 douche bag

  • @minimillar1 Live his life, and we'll see how you look at his age. I'd say you'd look like a cunt.

  • Amazing cover. I never thought the Man in Black would cover a Nine Inch Nails song. Rest in Peace Johnny.

  • God damn it, there it is the dust in my eye again =/

  • can someone tell me, is this the last song he wrote?

  • @themxtiger nah man, he stole this one

  • @boxofz someone never gets laid

  • @ilovethemchincy hey thats not true!!! ask your mum

  • @themxtiger This is actually a cover, but it is a damn good cover. I think it was his last big project though before he died, if that is what you want to know.

  • This is probibly the most deep and powerful videos i have ever seen. RIP Mr. Cash

  • johnny cash has tought us all a lesson

  • its a powerful video..no doubt...and a credit to johnny cash that he was still making great records til the very end...it certainly makes you think about life and what its all about watching this...i dont personally believe in any religion..its a comfort blanket for those who dont want to face the reality that this life is all we have...i am happy that i have this life and i dont hope for any more...living for eternity in some afterlife ...now thats a nightmare for me..rip john...

  • Religion doesn't numb reality, it's the only thing that makes life on earth make sense. I know what I am here for, I was placed here to serve God and love people. What were you put here for? Do you know?

  • RIP johnny RIP june

  • Best version of this song by far!!! Johnny Cash was a true star right to the end! Brilliant is putting it mildly!

    chiodos intesity in ten citys

  • this is a nine inch nails song but johnny does this soo much better.... so much more feeling

  • this video breaks my heart, he looks so fragile

  • Even on an amazing song and video like this you still get some asshole who insists on saying "thumbs up" after a stupid comment of theirs. Give Cash the thumbs up.

  • I'm fourteen and have fortunately not experienced the pain of losing someone, yet i still come to tears everytime i hear it. I can only imagine how much more it will mean to someone who has lost someone...

  • @PlainLazyyy for some one so young with so much heart i know there is hope for us all. take care.

  • i cried when i heard this song after he died. RIP Mr. Johnny Cash. May your music last for lifetimes to come!!

  • When he opens that piano, it is almost like he knows that it's the last time he's gonna play it?

And when he closes it, I feel like he is closing life, kind off... He knew, that death was near, he knew that it would be the last time he played that piano, I think.

I've never listened to Johnny Cash much myself, but this song changed that!

I often listen to Johnny Cash now, and he is an idol for me!

  • The only song to ever make me cry, simply a wonderful experience every time I hear it.

  • @genocidalgerbil

Damn it gets you like that doesn't it.......the Nine inch nails one gets you in a different way but it is just as powerful.

  • @genocidalgerbil Girlyboy.

  • @genocidalgerbil Listen to poison oak now.

  • 17 peoples didnt have feeling.

  • What I love most about this song is that it's a cover and we all associate to Johnny and not Nine Inch Nails which is an amazing band and deserve credit but never the less, what NIN created was a great song, Cash made it infamous.

  • This song is Master..

  • Not exaggerating...I've been watching this video since 10 a.m. it's now 12 p.m. ... <3333 It never gets old.

  • This actually is my favourite song. I could listen to this every day. For the rest of my life.

  • this song remines me of my grampa that died going on 5 years this new year sunday :'( i miss him so much

  • J Cash is Great !

  • IF I COULD START AGAIN A MILLION MILES AWAY, I WOULD KEEP MYSELF, I WOULD FIND A WAY. Thumbs up if you ever feel like this. For John M. Osborne. I would find a way if I only could. Everyone I love goes away IN THE END. Love, Donna

  • R.I.P. Johnny

  • i see people who dislike this video...sad

  • The man in black once quoted "my arms are too short to box with god" this was put to test sept 12/2003....what a quote, what a guy!

  • Saddest song ever. Makes me think of the things i've doneto other people, and things people have done to me.

  • Beside Johnny Cash's stunning interpretation, the video is brillantly directed and edited

  • One of the best songs ever wrotten. Love you Johnny <3

  • Man I wish that Johnny would die sooner that he did, I mwan I must have missed June so much, Imagen him sleep alone the last months of his life, he must have cry him self to sleap every night the weeks after Junes death,

He is my biggest heroe of al time and I'm 16 years old

Thank god for giving his music to us, Hurt is my favourite song,

God bless June and John R.I.P

  • when i was 9 i always visted my nanna every wednesdays saturdays and sundays. She always played one of johnnys songs she had a crush on johnny. She was a bright and vibrant character she was an amazing indivdual and i love her so much i would give up my legs or arms for that women to be on this earth once more. Trying to write this message is bring me too tears. I LOVE YOU NANNA have a good one :) your dancing with johnny in heaven now :))

  • God, this IS music! Not justin bieber or dubstep crap. This is just..leaves me speechelss...

  • @YouCantTalk Actually, it is music. Don't be a prick, just because you don't enjoy it or listen to it, doesn't mean it's not music.

  • @StraightPhob1a i'm not being a prick, i think you'll find my taste in music is amazing

  • @YouCantTalk I said nothing about your taste in music. I said don't insult other forms of music by saying they aren't music, douche.

  • @StraightPhob1a dont tell me what to do. we both like this song, lets just leave it at that

  • He understood truly that nothing that he owned mattered or anything that is worth money means nothing when you pass into to the after life. Its what you do for others and the impression you leave with your legacy an the kind of human you were when you die. Everybody could take a lesson from this amazing song.

  • I get chills and cry almost everytime I watch this video.

  • Nice to see him doing a Leona Lewis cover.

  • @jackfenderrox Please tell me that's a joke..lol

  • "Spondi"/Σπονδή =An offering to the gods, pooring wine onto the ground, in a gesture very much resembling what Cash is doing in the clip, where he poors the wine out of a stemed glass onto the table in front of him.

  • @Vasilaki06 1. At the time when this was a custom, it was pronounced "spondeh".

    2. That is not what he is doing - he is pouring a very very expensive wine on some very very expensive food to show that it no longer brings him any pleasure.

  • ....my favourite gesture in the clip is where he is making a "spondi"; for those who are not familiar with the term, let me explain that this is a gesture, or rather an offering to the Gods the ancient Greeks used to make in order to gain the favour of the Gods! It would sometimes be used as a way to ask for their forgiveness-in case humans have commited a sacrilegious act....Redemption again!! So modest....what an amazing realisation Cash has made! The feeling that mortal nature is incomplete

  • An amazing song....rather a wonderful interpretation by Cash! Listening to this song i somehow get the impression that he realised he was at the end of the road and the lyrics seem to express just that! I receive the message of the song somewhere along the lines of redemption, pessimistic overview on life; maybe what he "gets" now he is near the end of his life is.....that really what we need is a whole other life to make up for our mistakes! A realisation that we undergo immense changes.....

  • Dear God this song brings me to my knees every time I play it,

  • 2:39 Redemption..

  • EXCELLENT

  • Interesting age we live in. We now live in an age where our lives can be digitally recorded from moment to end. Look at Johnny at 23 singing walk the line on youtube and this vid.

How can anyone so young and vibrant ever grow that old? I wonder if the individual has any meaning at all. Life or consciousness seems to be a joke on us all. The mindless masses use religion to numb the reality, but what are the lucid supposed to do?

    Smile passively I guess.

  • @Chance411 well as the great Eric Idle "Life's a piece of shit, when you look at it, life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true. You'll see it's all a show, keep 'em laughing as you go, just remember that the last laugh is on you. And always look on the bright side of life..."

  • @Chance411 No Enjoy life while you can...

  • @Chance411 I was always taught that the best thing you can do with your life is to make sure that on your deathbed you are able to look back on your past and know that you've done some good in your life, whether it be a good parent, a major influence to somebody, or just to have lived and let live. This song is an example of a man that lived a life of drugs with a bad relationship with his father that he regrets, and that's why it is such a powerful song. R.I.P Man In Black

  • @Chance411 wow that was deep. Seems this song always bring out some truth in humanity and lets us realise that the world is a hurtfull place, and what ever happens to us is done by what we allow or what is forced upon us.

  • @Chance411 It's called aging. All living things have to die so others may live. I doesn't have to have any meaning. Just live simple, enjoy yourself, respect and maybe even love the humman next to you, if you don't want to love them just leave them be and it all will be fine, as religion suggests ;)

  • osrane dupy macie :D

  • im twelve and im the only one of my friends who gets the message to this song. that is really sad...

  • @gkpudding Don't put your age on a YouTube video. Just don't.

  • i wanna cry.........do you file the same ....then like

  • Looks like 15 people are HURT because they don't know a great song when they hear one. Go back to your rap crap.

  • @MrMikeb1958 I Like rap and this song i listen to a lot of people like Elvis Presley and the Rat Pack but blaming 15 dislikes on people who like rap thats just a load of crap.

  • @TheJDMontage Well..RAP IS CRAP! Imagaine that!

  • @MrMikeb1958 Thats ur opinion so

  • @TheJDMontage Actually if you took a poll, 70% of people would agree that rap is crap. Yes there are a few decent songs but they are few and far between.

  • RIP Ill never forget your words

  • Man, this guy has to be in heaven. =)

  • I hurt myself today, to see if I still feel!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Aphlyxion69

I listened to the original and Cash's cover is far better than the original song.

BTW this is the first song I ever heard by Johnny Cash

  • this is a man knowing he is at the end of his life publicly asking for forgiveness for all the things he did in his life, looking back at his mistakes. saying godbye to his family and all his fans he left behind and saying hello to all his friends and loved ones that died before him. he truely was and always will be one of the greatest true musical artist that ever walked this earth. • What a great reminder that we won't take anything with us when we leave this world.

  • Best musician ever.

    R.I.P Man in Black

  • I don't like american way of life. May because I'm from Europe,so i think America bringt us some bad things, like McDonalds, Starbucks, and any others. I'm slow food member. But i like this song (Trent Raznor's)

  • @mungost

Americas way of life isnt mcdonalds and starbucks. those are just popular franchises, not the foundation of america and who americans are. but it probably seems like it, cause the media would rather focus on the obese than just the regular average people, because why would being average get you coverage on the news and in the media?

  • Every time I'm listening to this song, I'm just about to cry. He was such a special person. I miss The Man in Black!

  • no matter how many times or when i listen to this song. it always inspires me to be a better person while i still can.
