  • The greatest body builders, especially Arnold arguably, understand how important the mind/soul is above everything else in the quest for success in anything. Thank you for reminding me of it in a slightly different way. :)

  • This makes SO much sense bro! This is just what I needed for my Christian walk. I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad, I'm just saying, this helps me so much! :)

  • @TheDge12345 Anytime buddy!

  • pretty cool!

  • this is so good to do helps you more succussful in life.people understimate this alot, tv sucks.

  • So many women gettin the msg out.. Way to get the positive +++word out there to males in a way they can relate! Love it and thanks!!

  • This dude makes good sense, I got to agree with alot of wat he is saying xcept how we talk to girls lol..

  • hmmm. World Junior Championships. Oiler hockey... am I aloud to watch those? i will.

  • i.e. Psychedelics...

  • i will try this one now, btw i used to work infront of the computer for 9hours max so does working infront of the computer counts? and how about cellphone? texting? i hope you can reply thanks man GJ ^_^

  • @popoyista03 You just need to understand the basic idea behind all this and you can decide for yourself. MY understanding is that you basically stop numbing yourself to all the 'noise' around and almost force yourself to be aware of yourself and your mind instead of distracting with all the 'fun' around.

  • yo this works btw. I did this november last year. Good way to find out who your real friends are & what is important to you. ppl waste a lot of time on this crap. Gj vince

  • Wow....I am ganna try this. But one thing I realized is that I am very technology and computer dependent. I'll be reading a lot I guess. I tend to get bored very quickly. The constant stimulation that I get from the internet and games is something that has been a big part of my life. Time to reclaim my brain back.

  • I think I'll try it

  • how can this work with the world cup going on man?, i mean i get stressed lol

  • Thanks for this man I used it and I really wanna give up smoking I hate tv anyways but yeah this really works for me, Thanks vince .

  • fasted from xbox 360 for 40 days once, lost 20 pounds. It was for other reasons than health but i did help me loose weight, even though i wasnt trying.

  • Giving up music will be the hardest thing for me

  • i hardly watch any tv only when something special is on but wow trying this could really be tough lol. i mean the whole world is basically surrounded by technology, people texting, tv, radio, games, and computers. it changes the way people think of about life in general. Im glad im not following the other path just sticking to my workouts everyday.

  • great technique Vince

thanks god I don't watch, read, and listen to media

  • @Rambo00023 i can tell, lol.

  • This is some very powerful stuff. Thanks man im gonna try this week.

  • i did this a while back with out knowing and it worked wonders

  • fucking asshole

  • Wow! Great video! I'm going to try this! Vince, do you come from a Christian background?

  • o god...thats fuckin hard...no videogames????movies??youtube???porn??? thats like the end of days or something

  • YES to POSITIVITY!

    :D

  • I'm not surprised from all the comments on how many idiots there are out there.

I mean you have to be really freakin' stupid and ignorant to leave a negative comment on a video like this.

    Very good technique Vince..!!!!

  • This is absolutely right I have experienced all the things you mentioned when I cut myself from all kinds of media etc.

  • Wow Vince, thats exactly what Islam teaches us to do & you just hit the nail on the head. You must be a practicing Christian to have that kind attitude. Keep it up, great advise

  • @acidmofunk666 You don't need to be a muslim or a christian to have this kind of attitude.

  • I am not a dumb b*tch, so simmer down, bud! The lactic acid buildup does cause muscle failure, but how the heck is someone who has never worked out before supposed to know that? You have to talk at THEIR LEVEL so they understand what that means. Going to momentary muscle failure by going beyond the burning sensation makes sense to people. I help people make health and fitness accessible, convenient, and simple to fit into their lifestyle. If you don't support that, then don't watch!

  • well i turned off all media and have just been playing online poker for 7 days THIS SYSTEM IS FUCKING BULLSHIT FUCK KING MUTHA FUCK

  • nice man ya furrrr sho good idea

  • LMFAO! dude this guys fukin hilarious LOL no youtube besides mine LOL!!!

  • does this mean no porn?

  • Thanx Vince... starting it today!!!!

  • Good advice, Vince, thanks

  • woow i watched this video on Sunday night i think and its wed 2day. during that time Ive stopped smoking weed and went to my uni lectures for my law course for the first time in 3 months. keep your vids up this shit really helps

  • Excellent advice. Didn't notice all those things could be screwing me up! Now, let's turn off this goddamn machine called computer ;)

  • i agree

  • Great advice!

  • i actually did this for close to a year...i was working and traveling and since i was away i didnt watch tv ..hardly listened to music ...and talked rarely to the people back at home...luckily im not married lol...but WOW it helped so much...i extremely recommend this to anyone for self development like vince said...try it it works magic trust me.

  • I just gained a lot of respect for this guy.

Absolutely true. Speaks a lot to my success

  • he's very right maybe he's exagerating with no watching tv, or use facebook but i think he's trying to say that if you doesnt make things that make you be stressed your attitude will be positive

  • nice advice

  • this sounds like a great idea!

  • i already wanna do this. i think i already did though

  • vince, i've done the facebook thing before and didn't miss it at all. might try this and just read more instead. just not likin the idea of no music though.

  • Thanks for the advice Vince, good looking out!

  • Killer advice!

  • great advise thank you!....only one problem though........what does this have to do with building muscle?

  • @Ozzfanatic760 he is fitness expert. His point is, how you can get certain things those are very easy to get. But in todays lifestyle makes it difficult to happen. Plus a very important thing he is telling, is just go to basic life. starts from beginning when you loose the way!!

  • oh shoot.....not to be mean pero like you confused me even more.....sorryyyyyyy

  • amazing advice

  • THANKS I REALLY NEEDED THAT :)

  • I often do this. I call this 'living off the grid' I even carry a family pocket watch to check the time. Living of the grid makes me feel grounded and more in touch with life and other people rather than being hooked up to electronics and all the gizmo's companies say I need in order to have quality of life.

  • Well said. I can attest. Get the negativity out of your life and you will automatically see mental and physical gains.

  • AWESOME!!

Vince man, I did this - as a LIFESTYLE CHANGE ( "permanently") about 1.5 years ago (quit watching TV, radio, etc.). Since then I've prayed for validation of what I was DIRECTED to do (Proverbs 3.6); Thank you, my friend, thank you!

    I love you man

  • I'm gonna try this!

  • My ipod filled with top40 stuff should I discard that too? I bike several hours a day and cant do without but I want to do this stuff correctly to see what the results are.. I got songs like black eyed peas, red hot chilli peppers, jason derulo etc.

  • i love you man best advice ever

  • Great video... I think I'll try it!

  • i'm going to try this...

  • Media, i'm sure that you have a fair amount of younger viewers (21 myself) and I think that video games can cause a lot of negativity. Dropping those will probably help a lot too

  • Nice advice, i will try this. Ive been down for a while, and unleashing all my anger on my workouts. But i want to go back to my old self and actually enjoy and have fun at my workouts.

  • In all seriousness, I think this is a great idea, I've just come back from a club and had a shitty time with someone I considered a friend. I need to get away from all this shit and I think a mental and physical detox is the way forward. It perfect because I have a semi pro muay thai fight coming up in may, but the timing of this vid is perfect. need top exclude all bull shit and negativity form my life,. The porn is going to be hard to give up though.

  • nice, we'll give it a shot for 5 days, see how i feel afterwards....

  • Great stuff there bro. You have spoken directly into my life on several occaisions. Thanks for your words. You are an encouragement to many.

  • Yea, i think its a pretty good outlook. I'm going to try and see how it goes. going to be honest im on the computer and watching tv/ into the media type of thing alot lol so its really going to be a challenge

  • thats actually a great idea, great stuff Vince!!

  • do we have to cut out porn in the mental fast?

  • are you crazy?!?!?!?! lol

  • no i'm not crazy that was a serious question.

i dont think porn is a media like tv, newspaper, magazine, youtube, etc.

  • ill try it but can you give me more details on how to do this

  • ima try it, ill probably fail a little bit but ill try and stick with it.

  • one of your best vids dude.

  • That's much harder than any of your workout programs. Very difficult. I know that it would greatly help me.

  • Thank you Vince

  • Hey VInce.great vid nd advice.I was just wondering tho what are you meant to do with all your extra time? Apart from the gym nd training? Or anyone for that matter?

  • awesome advice Vince. I am always hearing people complain about the dumbest things and it ticks me off. I need a vacation from the media haha.

  • no porn?

  • Some great tips Vince. It's amazing how much mental crap we take in during the run of a day. I'm going to give this a shot.

    all the best,

    Lee

  • i 5 stared 4 under armor lol

  • Terrific idea and practice, Vince.

I practiced a "digital detoxification" (i.e., abstained from using social media tools; Blackberry/ e-mail services; broadcast media; tabloid-esque Web sites) at the beginning of the new year.

I plan on making this psychological hajj a quarterly exercise.

    Cheers, AE.

  • keep on preachin dude. im not sayin nothin bad bout you.. just about the bible hahaha.. much love from canada! love the videos vince

  • Hey Vince, nice vid and I totally agree with it. Just wanna say: I think that watching TV, being on facebook etc are, lets say treats for our mind, when we dont get them for a week we get depressed. How can I get the balance back, I mean with what shall I replace those"treats" with? Thanks :)

  • Perhaps with a new hobby?

  • @AmadeusExcello what if you dont have time for a hobby and it doesnt satisfy you? Its not so easy as it seems

  • Vince,

This is one of my favorite / most helpful videos that I've seen from you.

    Thanks brother.

  • Radio

    News Paper

    Tv

    Face Book/myspace

    Youtube videos

The most problem i have i playing xbox.

So im going to get off of that 4 a week.

Also youtube videos i watch many.

only yours and other helpful videos.

    Thanks i need it=)Reply

  • This will increase your awareness, help you prioritize things you may not have thought about before, and it will simplify your life really quickly.

  • What about music???

  • Thanks Vince! im having a hard time atm, so i really wanna try this out

  • neat idea.

  • you know whats better bein for a week in you own little islande you alone for a week peace a silence and a nice massage and a crystal beach you can see the fish around your feet

  • Thanks Vince. Try reading the Art of Allowing by Ester and Jerry Hicks.

  • Good idea. I have been addicted to youtube for a couple of years but I´m trying to just like mostly go here and write with friends- I should spend much less time on youtube during the week and only go on facebook to write happy birthday to someone LOL. I don´t like people that are negative and pessimistic.

  • good stuff. Quick question. Should one listen to his Ipod or not too?

  • Sure, with the exception here being that you attempt to listen to foreign genres of music. For example, if you only listen to Hard Rock music, you could try listening to the collective works of Pink Flloyd or, perhaps, the critical works of Gil-Heron Scott.

In essence, if you do decide to egocast with an iPod, make these seven days count by breaking out of your mental, predictive rut.

  • wow I need to do this but it seems pretty damn hard

  • loll man wth would i do in that week if i was to give this a try

  • This is great council though. Having negative energy in us will effect a workout. In fact, The Iron Guru - Vince Gironda used to advocate not thinking about your workout until you get there and to totally block negs during the session. I do a mental trick and leave the Issues outside the door of the gym then pick them up on my way out :)

  • Nice video, Vince. The technological advances humanity has made are a double edged sword. Thanks for reminding us of that.

  • Next week I'm going to do both Phisical Fast and Mental Fast ! Wish me luck :D

  • What specific foods would you really recommend to build muscle and lose body fat?

  • Face book is very positive for me. I have connected with friends and family I haven't seen in over 25 years. It's a good thing.

  • @Shveti Well, that may be good for you, but Facebook has been negative for me. I lost a friend over misinterpreting what I wrote on FB, my best buddy got into a fight with this family on FB. Tired of all the useless and wasteful posts from friends on FB. Social networking sites are not necessarily good for the mindset. I agree with Vinnie here. It's challenging to give up all the media but it would be good to try it.

  • Tip: Don't add family members!

FB is a place where you can keep in touch with old mates. Doesn't mean you have to be online 24/7! 10 minutes a day is a start. :P

  • interesting, if a little unpractical.

Anyway, much more helpful if he just kept posting workout videos instead of this karma stuff

  • This sounds like a great technique - I also like how you related it to a physical cleanse. The brain is definitely overlooked when it comes to health

  • Along those lines I am trying to take up mindful meditation for 20 minutes a day where I focus on my breathing and set all thoughts (positive negative and neutral) aside. It sounds healthy to get off Facebook, not converse with negative friends, etc., but I am afraid if I stop watching news or keeping up on reading that I will become ignorant professionally or miss out on important information, events, etc.

  • brilliant idea

    5 stars

  • dude what the fuck are you talking about? nice saying btw..."garbage in, garbage out" very creative chump.

  • @Ricecakes001 Why are even watching Vince's videos if all you can do is talk shit about him. Go somewhere else. He's offering free help and free advice. There are plenty of douchebags on Youtube flexing their muscles and offering nothing to help people. Go there.

  • i'll do it, but i need to watch lost tuesday night

  • Vince, thanks for posting this video. I like it and will try it! And I have no problem if you want me to go get a bible (I already have one though and love it)!

  • What does the part eww gross im not gona put it back into my body do with facebook lol?

  • @darkboy456 I have to wonder how old are some of you here that don't get Vinces point about Facebook. What are you 12-15?

  • @macuser5555

I know that he was just pointing out examples..

    But still lol..

  • Thanks for the tip . I am gonna give this a try .

  • mmmm. itll be hard cuz myspace is addicting. i dont watch much tv. so i guess ill juss work out n stuff. it shud be a semi challenge.

  • @BunnyBUNGALO

I don't watch tv either! lol

  • where have you been vinnie

  • Sounds like a good idea, I'll try it out

  • so wht do u do when ur doing this???

  • Exellent advice. Thank you very much.

  • I'm gonna do mine when I go to Aruba in 7 weeks.

  • This is very powerful !!

  • hey Vince this doesn't really have to do with this but im trying to do your workouts now and and eating foods with little ingredients in them but i was wondering if cereal was good for you or not ...and im not talking like the ones with massive amount of sugar but like fiber one and kashie regular cheerios.... please reply

  • vince i think this is the most useful video u ever made .

  • This was a GREAT video, Vince.

Mental fasts are very important. I used to do them all the time and people would think it was weird and what not, but I felt SO much better after doing them. You do become so much more aware of the negative things around you.

I think I'll start another one on Monday!!

    Thanks Vince ;-)

  • whens your last video for the 6day san diego workout coming out vince

  • im definitly tryin this...

  • great video vince

  • Hey Vince, I had a lot of respect for you as a trainer, but truth be told my respect for you has just doubled.

What's inside the mind will always determine what's coming out of it.

  • Sounds good...let's go thirty days

  • Dammit Vince, I was with until you said give up youtube. I hardly ever watch Tv, face book and other media outlets are easy, but youtube!? Plus I wanted to watch Hurt locker this week too. :(

I'll start it next week. :)

PS: does the fast include porn? :P

  • He is so right. There is alot of confusion going on in the world. Media, negative people and so on...they all keep you away of getting better. Even the bible and the whole religion thing. Listen to your body and soul and everything is gonna be alright. Its very hard I know but worth it....

  • i do it just because everything you told me work in some way

and if i stop watching tv... well maybe i get my ass up and learn lol i never do that so we will see

so thanks vince i write you an email next week ;)

    wishes from germany Björn

  • five stars

  • wow thanks 4 tips!

  • Good advice. You look great by the way. Big chest!

  • Great video, Vince. There's so much truth to what you said. I'm thankful that we have someone like yourself, in the fitness community - this is one reason why I enjoy your videos so much.

    Take care my friend,

    Gary

  • can i still watch 24 tomorrow night?

  • I forget to tell you guys... INSTEAD... this week I want you to read a NEW book... something positive... for at least 15 minutes a day. Let's replace your old habits with something positive. Reading, exercise, more water, better nutrition this week.

  • Thanks Vince. I just picked up "Linchpin" by Seth Godin. ... A mental declutter and reminding ourselves we have control of what we put in our minds and bodies ... good to be reminded of this.

  • Killer book. Everything by Seth Godin is excellent.

  • ill try it

  • Same as crusherrer. Starting from Monday. Uh I hope I can do it :P

  • this should be easy i already don't watch tv. and don't have a facebook

  • What's wrong with that?

  • dude gods not real.. hes a fictional character in the biggest fiction novel ever sold/made. why not hand out books of humpty dumpty or jack in the bean stock.. there just as real as god is

  • bible don't build muscles buddy...

  • Hey Vince. Im on my fast for 24 hours and you told me when I get back from my fast I have to have a meal immediatley and continue my day. Well since I start eating at around 5 o clock how many calories am I suppost to consuming from that time period. Thanks Vince (tom)

P,S its from mym phase 2

  • @VinceDelMonte I loved that you made this video it does not matter that you sound like your preaching its what people need I do this alot and it helps because you want to surround yourself with like minded people thanks for the video 5 stars

  • just so you know im not sayin nothin bad bout you. i love your videos. your great. i just dont like the bible.. haha

  • you mah boi vince. get er done

  • @rpifer you believe in a man that youve never met and a celestial being that made every organism with his "magical powers".. FAIL.. keep your views to yourself before i make you look stupid again..

  • fact is Vince why is he watching your vids then? ;P

  • @knewok watch vinces other videos, he has great tips

  • @knewok Do you have something against preaching or motivational speaking?

  • no no its not against vince its against the bible haha i have nothign against this video

  • Yes Knewk, whats wrong with that? I thought these type of video's were designed for people to watch and learn - hence the preaching.

  • @knewok You clearly miss the entire purpose and practice of this video.
