The greatest body builders, especially Arnold arguably, understand how important the mind/soul is above everything else in the quest for success in anything. Thank you for reminding me of it in a slightly different way. :)
This makes SO much sense bro! This is just what I needed for my Christian walk. I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad, I'm just saying, this helps me so much! :)
i will try this one now, btw i used to work infront of the computer for 9hours max so does working infront of the computer counts? and how about cellphone? texting? i hope you can reply thanks man GJ ^_^
@popoyista03 You just need to understand the basic idea behind all this and you can decide for yourself. MY understanding is that you basically stop numbing yourself to all the 'noise' around and almost force yourself to be aware of yourself and your mind instead of distracting with all the 'fun' around.
yo this works btw. I did this november last year. Good way to find out who your real friends are & what is important to you. ppl waste a lot of time on this crap. Gj vince
Wow....I am ganna try this. But one thing I realized is that I am very technology and computer dependent. I'll be reading a lot I guess. I tend to get bored very quickly. The constant stimulation that I get from the internet and games is something that has been a big part of my life. Time to reclaim my brain back.
fasted from xbox 360 for 40 days once, lost 20 pounds. It was for other reasons than health but i did help me loose weight, even though i wasnt trying.
i hardly watch any tv only when something special is on but wow trying this could really be tough lol. i mean the whole world is basically surrounded by technology, people texting, tv, radio, games, and computers. it changes the way people think of about life in general. Im glad im not following the other path just sticking to my workouts everyday.
Wow Vince, thats exactly what Islam teaches us to do & you just hit the nail on the head. You must be a practicing Christian to have that kind attitude. Keep it up, great advise
I am not a dumb b*tch, so simmer down, bud! The lactic acid buildup does cause muscle failure, but how the heck is someone who has never worked out before supposed to know that? You have to talk at THEIR LEVEL so they understand what that means. Going to momentary muscle failure by going beyond the burning sensation makes sense to people. I help people make health and fitness accessible, convenient, and simple to fit into their lifestyle. If you don't support that, then don't watch!
woow i watched this video on Sunday night i think and its wed 2day. during that time Ive stopped smoking weed and went to my uni lectures for my law course for the first time in 3 months. keep your vids up this shit really helps

he's very right maybe he's exagerating with no watching tv, or use facebook but i think he's trying to say that if you doesnt make things that make you be stressed your attitude will be positive
vince, i've done the facebook thing before and didn't miss it at all. might try this and just read more instead. just not likin the idea of no music though.
@Ozzfanatic760 he is fitness expert. His point is, how you can get certain things those are very easy to get. But in todays lifestyle makes it difficult to happen. Plus a very important thing he is telling, is just go to basic life. starts from beginning when you loose the way!!
I often do this. I call this 'living off the grid' I even carry a family pocket watch to check the time. Living of the grid makes me feel grounded and more in touch with life and other people rather than being hooked up to electronics and all the gizmo's companies say I need in order to have quality of life.
Vince man, I did this - as a LIFESTYLE CHANGE ( "permanently") about 1.5 years ago (quit watching TV, radio, etc.). Since then I've prayed for validation of what I was DIRECTED to do (Proverbs 3.6); Thank you, my friend, thank you!

In all seriousness, I think this is a great idea, I've just come back from a club and had a shitty time with someone I considered a friend. I need to get away from all this shit and I think a mental and physical detox is the way forward. It perfect because I have a semi pro muay thai fight coming up in may, but the timing of this vid is perfect. need top exclude all bull shit and negativity form my life,. Yea, i think its a pretty good outlook. I'm going to try and see how it goes. going to be honest im on the computer and watching tv/ into the media type of thing alot lol so its really going to be a challenge
Hey VInce.great vid nd advice.I was just wondering tho what are you meant to do with all your extra time? Apart from the gym nd training? Or anyone for that matter?
I practiced a "digital detoxification" (i.e., abstained from using social media tools; Blackberry/ e-mail services; broadcast media; tabloid-esque Web sites) at the beginning of the new year.
I plan on making this psychological hajj a quarterly exercise.
Hey Vince, nice vid and I totally agree with it. Just wanna say: I think that watching TV, being on facebook etc are, lets say treats for our mind, when we dont get them for a week we get depressed. How can I get the balance back, I mean with what shall I replace those"treats" with? Thanks :)
you know whats better bein for a week in you own little islande you alone for a week peace a silence and a nice massage and a crystal beach you can see the fish around your feet
Good idea. I have been addicted to youtube for a couple of years but I´m trying to just like mostly go here and write with friends- I should spend much less time on youtube during the week and only go on facebook to write happy birthday to someone LOL. I don´t like people that are negative and pessimistic.
Sure, with the exception here being that you attempt to listen to foreign genres of music. For example, if you only listen to Hard Rock music, you could try listening to the collective works of Pink Flloyd or, perhaps, the critical works of Gil-Heron Scott.
In essence, if you do decide to egocast with an iPod, make these seven days count by breaking out of your mental, predictive rut.
This is great council though. Having negative energy in us will effect a workout. In fact, The Iron Guru - Vince Gironda used to advocate not thinking about your workout until you get there and to totally block negs during the session. I do a mental trick and leave the Issues outside the door of the gym then pick them up on my way out :)
@Shveti Well, that may be good for you, but Facebook has been negative for me. I lost a friend over misinterpreting what I wrote on FB, my best buddy got into a fight with this family on FB. Tired of all the useless and wasteful posts from friends on FB. Social networking sites are not necessarily good for the mindset. I agree with Vinnie here. It's challenging to give up all the media but it would be good to try it.
Along those lines I am trying to take up mindful meditation for 20 minutes a day where I focus on my breathing and set all thoughts (positive negative and neutral) aside. It sounds healthy to get off Facebook, not converse with negative friends, etc., but I am afraid if I stop watching news or keeping up on reading that I will become ignorant professionally or miss out on important information, events, etc.
@Ricecakes001 Why are even watching Vince's videos if all you can do is talk shit about him. Go somewhere else. He's offering free help and free advice. There are plenty of douchebags on Youtube flexing their muscles and offering nothing to help people. Go there.
Vince, thanks for posting this video. I like it and will try it! And I have no problem if you want me to go get a bible (I already have one though and love it)!
hey Vince this doesn't really have to do with this but im trying to do your workouts now and and eating foods with little ingredients in them but i was wondering if cereal was good for you or not ...and im not talking like the ones with massive amount of sugar but like fiber one and kashie regular cheerios.... please reply
Mental fasts are very important. I used to do them all the time and people would think it was weird and what not, but I felt SO much better after doing them. You do become so much more aware of the negative things around you.
Dammit Vince, I was with until you said give up youtube. I hardly ever watch Tv, face book and other media outlets are easy, but youtube!? Plus I wanted to watch Hurt locker this week too. :(
He is so right. There is alot of confusion going on in the world. Media, negative people and so on...they all keep you away of getting better. Even the bible and the whole religion thing. Listen to your body and soul and everything is gonna be alright. Its very hard I know but worth it....
Great video, Vince. There's so much truth to what you said. I'm thankful that we have someone like yourself, in the fitness community - this is one reason why I enjoy your videos so much.
I forget to tell you guys... INSTEAD... this week I want you to read a NEW book... something positive... for at least 15 minutes a day. Let's replace your old habits with something positive. Reading, exercise, more water, better nutrition this week.
Thanks Vince. I just picked up "Linchpin" by Seth Godin. ... A mental declutter and reminding ourselves we have control of what we put in our minds and bodies ... good to be reminded of this.
dude gods not real.. hes a fictional character in the biggest fiction novel ever sold/made. why not hand out books of humpty dumpty or jack in the bean stock.. there just as real as god is

What`s wrong with humpty dumpty and Jack and the beanstalk? Stop being negative, You are probably overweight and mentally malnutrioned. Better to read the bible than watch junk on Tv. Anyday. And I am not even christian. Lol.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
What the hell are you talking about? The bible clearly teaches us that God is the strongest guy in the whole Universe. I don`t know about you, but when it comes to building muscle and increasing strength, I think I`ll stick with the strongest guy. Lol.
Hey Vince. Im on my fast for 24 hours and you told me when I get back from my fast I have to have a meal immediatley and continue my day. Well since I start eating at around 5 o clock how many calories am I suppost to consuming from that time period. Thanks Vince (tom)
@VinceDelMonte I loved that you made this video it does not matter that you sound like your preaching its what people need I do this alot and it helps because you want to surround yourself with like minded people thanks for the video 5 stars
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@VinceDelMonte im christian and i have been thinking about this. i recently saw a video explaining how the brain forms habits and how the subconscious mind works. this is indeed high level stuff that you broke down into baby food. i might do this coupled with prayer and bible reading. once we are empty it is then possible for us to be filled.
@rpifer you believe in a man that youve never met and a celestial being that made every organism with his "magical powers".. FAIL.. keep your views to yourself before i make you look stupid again..

This was a GREAT video, Vince.
Mental fasts are very important. I used to do them all the time and people would think it was weird and what not, but I felt SO much better after doing them. You do become so much more aware of the negative things around you.
I think I'll start another one on Monday!!
Thanks Vince ;-)

Hey Vince, I had a lot of respect for you as a trainer, but truth be told my respect for you has just doubled.

Dammit Vince, I was with until you said give up youtube. I hardly ever watch Tv, face book and other media outlets are easy, but youtube!? Plus I wanted to watch Hurt locker this week too. :(
I'll start it next week. :)
PS: does the fast include porn? :P

He is so right. There is alot of confusion going on in the world. Media, negative people and so on...they all keep you away of getting better. Even the bible and the whole religion thing. Listen to your body and soul and everything is gonna be alright. Its very hard I know but worth it....
nahm02 1 year ago
i do it just because everything you told me work in some way
and if i stop watching tv... well maybe i get my ass up and learn lol i never do that so we will see
so thanks vince i write you an email next week ;)

Great video, Vince. There's so much truth to what you said. I'm thankful that we have someone like yourself, in the fitness community - this is one reason why I enjoy your videos so much.
Take care my friend,

I forget to tell you guys... INSTEAD... this week I want you to read a NEW book... something positive... for at least 15 minutes a day. Let's replace your old habits with something positive. Reading, exercise, more water, better nutrition this week.

Thanks Vince. I just picked up "Linchpin" by Seth Godin. ... A mental declutter and reminding ourselves we have control of what we put in our minds and bodies ... good to be reminded of this.

What`s wrong with humpty dumpty and Jack and the beanstalk? Stop being negative, You are probably overweight and mentally malnutrioned. Better to read the bible than watch junk on Tv. Anyday. And I am not even christian. Lol.

What the hell are you talking about? The bible clearly teaches us that God is the strongest guy in the whole Universe. I don`t know about you, but when it comes to building muscle and increasing strength, I think I`ll stick with the strongest guy. Lol.

Nothing, IMO. Lots of sage advice in the bible, even if you don't believe. Thousands of years of wisdom in one book can't be all bad IMHO.

There's nothing wrong with that. The Bible is a collection of the most important writings ever recorded!

@rpifer you believe in a man that youve never met and a celestial being that made every organism with his "magical powers".. FAIL.. keep your views to yourself before i make you look stupid again..
