wow - this takes me back ! I saw sandii & the sunsetz play live in perth (australia) - they were awesome actually! actually i think i remember sneaking into the gig using my cousin's Id - i must have been only 15 or something. Love this old diamond!!
Wow! Haven't heard this since 198? I can vaguely remeber seeing this video on Mtv?-not sure if it was Mtv or not, must have been like 1982-83, but I get the impression of being at a record store in the mall and hearing it and digging it! Never did get a hold of the album or 45 though, but it's still awesome!
I saw Sandii as she supported Japan in 1982. Her music was far more cutting-edge then. This offering is much more on a par with pop/bubble-gum .. twee, but hardly what I was expecting when I hit the play button. Pity because Sandii and the group really did have a different sound in the early 80's, perhaps influenced and inspired by Japan.
I seen these with Minnie(right up front)with INXS at Newcastle Workers Club in 80's ,we spoke to her (in English)and asked her to sing "Dreams Of Immagrants" She was beautiful and she wore a tight red dress and black shiny belt!!!!!
Sandii's father was in the US Navy and she is part American. She lived and currently resides in Hawaii, which is why she speaks excellent English. Today she teaches hula classes and if you do a net search for 'Sandii and the Sunsetz," you should stumble onto her site.
You can purchase this CD - Viva Lava Liva - online at HMV Japan. It costs 2310 yen or around $20 US plus shipping. I've ordered several cds from HMV Japan and they are very good and delivery usually only takes about 5 days to the states.
I am sooo jelous! I wish I saw them in 1984 and 1985 in OZ! They came twice which was great. Seeing Sandii & The Sunsetz with Inxs would have been so unreal! Not fair, someone give me a time machine and NOW!
I saw them supporting INXS in Queensland many years ago!

I remember when I first saw Sandii, she was beautiful, she was glowing. I guess with all that radiation in Japan now she will be glowing in the dark.

Sandii was gorgeous, typical japanese doll!
