The Euro made impossible for corrupt and disorganized, self-administered states in Europe to get away with all the extra spending they were so used to. Everything is more transparent now and obviously the first reaction was panic. People tend instinctively to blame everyone else for their incompetence but now the EU is beginning to follow a more prosperous direction.

The euro helps the european single market, it makes europe more independent from currency policies decided in Washington or Beijing and finally it inevitable forces all member states to cooperate politically (what we have seen now). I think these are effects are positive for europe as a whole. Now, what do you mean by "facing the reality"?

The EU is led by either morons who are unwittingly, or banksters who are deliberately destroying the economy of the Euro area by austerity when in fact the only thing that could save the area is increasing public spending and fueling economic and social health enhancements.

The austerity+debt will doom EU to deflationary recession.

For such a "huge achievement" there's little difference between yesterday and today other than a promise to cut back on spending. It's definitely a positive step but underlying debt levels remain. Until we have write downs by legitimate default or paid back with inflated currency then no significant improvement will be experienced.
