I have always wondered if this was made for the movie Mr. Jones which was about a man with bi-polar disorder. I think that the producers must ask for submissions and several bands apply. Not exactly. Adam wrote this song before they were famous. It was inspired from one time when he and a friend of his were talking with eachother in a bar while looking at girls, thinking that if they were famous it would be somehow easier to talk them - and the idea in general that fame would make their problems in life go away. The realization that this isn't true is reflected as a mantra he keeps repeating but doesn't really believe "When everybody loves me.." in the chorus.

Marty Jones, an original member of The Himalayans - Adam Duritz's second band I think it was his second band, anyway the band he was in before forming CC.
