  • The guy in the background looks like Serj Tankian....

  • The rev was actually a pretty good drummer for the kind of band he was in, i mean think about it, he was fairly technical, for the scene he was involved in at least.

  • real drummers don't call other drummers shit and I'm sure Rev would beat everyone of you with one hand, cuz every drummer has some stuff they never play when doing a record kinda like derek does here

  • the rev is a shitty drummer. why bring him up on a derek roddy video? haha thats like going to a pornstars website site and then bringing up your 13 year old sister

  • @razorguitar777

Because it's simply too easy to offend his fanboys.

  • @rob825 i completely agree

  • @adampacker LOL!

  • Comment removed

  • This video makes me think...

    Derek vs. Thomas Pridgen?

  • the rev was pretty good, but derek is in a whole other league

  • i dont even wanna play drums anymor.. xD

  • so 11 ass holes dont understand how great this is

  • steven austin claims that he came in and did what austin thought was a practice session for Axis of Eden and then told him "that's the album" and left him with basically to take or leave as the drum tracks for the record

  • @MMZen

Actually....you have that backwards. It was I thinking we were recording "pre production" for the record.

    D

  • @MrObsidian

Whatever man. Don't take this the wrong way but both you and austin have reputations for being prima donnas.......and austin is know for his temper tantrums.....I know it's all just a lot of he said she said bullshit at this point anyways but I just find the stories funny ......i think the best part was where austin said something about you had to fly back home to make sure your snakes would give birth okay.

  • @MMZen

    Reputation with who?

Like any of those people actually matter in my life.

    Haha.

    Cheers,

    D

  • @MrObsidian

    Sooooo..........how'd those snakes come out.

  • @MMZen You are mistaken, good sir. Mister Roddy here has a profound reputation for being a pure-bred badass drummer. Get'cho shit straight, boy.

  • his fills fulfilL me with disgust

    HOLY SHIAT!

  • A refreshing change of pace from blast beats

  • 1:32 what the fuck!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • @MEvsERLANDSSON

It's called a dubble bass mate. But yeah it's sick.

  • 1:33 what the fuck!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • Matt Griener, Adam Gray, Luke Holland, Lech, and Kevin Boutot are in MY opinion the best drummers.

  • derek roddy and George kollias are my two favorite metal drummers

  • @techdeathdrummer Don't forget about Daniel Erlandsson! (Arch Enemy)

  • Is that Steve Smith talkin' with someone outdoor?

  • 最高!!!!!!

  • i wanna be that smooth on the drums. i drum so awkwardly it looks like im having a seizure

  • he has a hi hat on his right, is it like two chinas or something it sounds so weird??

  • @brosephrags777 actually they are two splashes.. FYI

  • M4:55IVE

  • roddy just proved to me he's way more than just a fast super heavy metal guy.

he has awsome feel and groove. well rounded drummer for sure!

  • he's the only death metal drummer i know that knows how to groove....

  • :31 reminds me of "Hell's Kitchen" for just a sec.

  • When you're that metal, you can pull of an orange shirt.

  • This guy has got some chops!!!!

  • this play without e-kit trigger.

  • i see the vocalist of system of a down recording the drum solo..

  • 2:10-2:31 = rape

  • BLAST MOTHERFUCKER BLAST!!!! MAKE THOSE PPL'S HEAD BLOW!!!!

  • I hope ill become that good some day

  • I love Derek more than George or Tim cause he is the only diverse death metal drummer out there.

  • @Zildjian83 apparently you dont know george he started playing jazz at the age of 12 he was taught by yannis stavropoulus a great drummer..... but yes derek is very talented but george.... i dont even think he is human

  • GREAT JOB CUZ. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

  • Do these awesome guys just make solos as they play? It must be something like that because it's impossible to remember 9 minutes of constantly changing and complex playing.

  • @Villex93 OF COURSE IT COMES AS IS IN INSTANT YOUR PREVIOUS FEEL LEADS YOU IN TO YOUR NEXT...THAT'S DRUMMING

  • @TheSaturloss Yeah that's what I tought.. Still some solos sound very planned(not the 9min ones). And you can turn the caps lock off :D

  • shame no foodcam .--

  • @genaschtes yeah, i totally waited for that burger to come

  • Dear Rev,

    Suck it.

  • @rob825 ... can you do this? suck it.

  • @rob825 oh STFU both the rev and derek are incredible

  • @rob825 hell nah, fuck you nigger!

  • @rob825 fuck you.

  • @rob825 The rev was a very good drummer....not near what derek is but he was good at what he loved and your disrespecting someone who can`t defend themselves, how cowardly.

  • @69stringibanez

Cool story bro. Tell it to someone who gives a fuck.

  • @rob825 You obviously give a fuck BRO! because you took the time to respond. You fucking contradict yourself you retard now go crawl back under your bridge troll before I tell your mother your out past 9

  • @69stringibanez Y u so butthurt bro?

  • @69stringibanez The rev was a shitty emo fag who got what he deserved. Should have spent his time getting better at the drums instead of dressing up like a emo chick and doing drugs. The rev is nothing but fertilizer now!

  • @69stringibanez Nah. The Rev was a talentless hack that killed himself when he realized he sucked and was in a shitty band loved by millions of dumb fucking cunts.

  • @rob825 why? ur so mature -.-

  • @bl00ber99 Probably because everyone's all like "THE REV WAS THE BEST DRUMMER EVER", which really gets annoying, given that there are guys like these playing circles around them.

  • @rob825 thats not nice dude

  • @Mattdrumin101 That's a Meinl Generation X Filter China, either 14" or 16", I can't tell which. Hope that helps!

  • nice leopard seat they gave him there xD

  • I like 3:42 - 4:19 !! He is so sick!:D

  • this is what a derek roddy enclosure at the zoo would look like

  • i love how hes totally into it

  • is he left handed?

  • @rockinrandy1234 He learned to play drums left AND right handed... which is why he's so fuckin good...

  • l love the leopard seat :D

  • It sucks that the devil has his soul and all but at least we have his amazing music.

  • One of my favourite things about Roddy, aside from the obvious speed and precision, is how he sets up his drumkit so the heads are almost flat, which encourages proper technique. You can't tell so much on this kit but on his full kit you can see what I mean. The guy is such a fucking pro.

  • now this is drumming!!

  • i love that shuffle !! hes not only a metal drummer, he also grooves nicely, he has amazing technique, dynamics and speed!

  • Derek Roddy really has got a revolutionary perfection over drums and the speed with accuracy is just awesome...Derek brother you just keep blasting and we pray for you..God Bless you Derek..Avik Mukherjee

  • I love the leopard-print seat :D

  • he's in a drum practice booth. that's why his drums sound so good.

  • roddy is a genius!!!he's so damn versatile!!!

  • how does he get his toms to sound so good? i put moongel on mine and they still ring on and on and on, especially the floortoms

  • @wudgeypudger haha, i spent £10 on 3 evans dampening rims for my toms. cheap and fuck me, they work :)

  • @kakashi11213 yea but he doesnt have anything on his drums

  • @wudgeypudger kk fair nough, the better the drums are i guess.

  • @wudgeypudger you need to learn how to tune the proper way my man....... Moongels are for the hearing impaired..........and the right top and bottom head combo

  • Sounds pretty good on that cam

  • dude, at 7:40 who the hell is that in the top left corner? it's like some random guy's reflection

  • @zooby11isbambam it's the ghost of Hitler.

  • I LIKE THE PART FROM 0:01 - 9:11. I Hate the second before 0:01 and the second after 9:11 because he doesnt play

  • It's this kind of stuff that makes you one of the best drummers around: the ability to groove.

  • so whats up with hate eternal these days cause I haven't seen or heard about them since 2008

  • is he behind a glass ?

  • @hardcoreoma this keeps him vacuum packed and fresh

  • @TheForlornDreams oh i see

  • @hardcoreoma oh i see

  • just love those jazz band freaks

  • RIP axis haha

  • He wasn't feeling to Metal when he got dressed that morning.

  • Wish we could see his feet. Loved the combination double hi-hat, double bass drum work. His drum vocabulary draws from so many styles. F**king great.

  • His ghost notes are amazing. I have seen this guy through the years and his drumming keeps getting better and better.

  • B R U T A L G E N I U S.

  • OH you know whats funny. nobody nile haters have watched this video. do you know why? because they are scared that he is this good lmfao. i love haters.

  • Derek Roddy!!!!best of all the time!!!!!!!!

  • I don't get how he can play without plugs like that without deafening himself. I take it the booth is acoustically treated on the inside as well?

  • Always better... What a drummer!!!

  • 5:38, looks like paradiddles to me

  • 5:38 WTF

  • @06livefast RF pivoting bass and 2nd hihat (2/8) down beat; LF bass hihat hihat (3/8) upbeat; RH + LH paradiddle diddle RLRRLL sLRRLL (12/16=6/8=3/4) over his famous foot ostinato, meaning "s" as snare drum. hope you got it.

  • @erikimba wow lol.

  • did any one see the guy in the background kill himself because he realized he sucks at drums?

  • @69stringibanez

    That was me.

  • K, warm-up is over, time to party.

  • i love what he does with his head at 3:48

    its cool

  • @TheMASDrummer

i love what he does with his feet

  • i like his right crash :)

  • Damnit man - I'm just waiting for him to start blasting and freak people out.

  • @UFCNFLjunkie .... blasting is what he`s known for ... i would think him busting out with a half time shuffle is more freaky than him blasting .

  • @sweetfly66

Yes, for those that know who Derek Roddy is - but the majority of those there watching probably don't. So his insane speed would drop jaws. He's awesome to me either way even if I'd like to see him defy human possibility. :)

  • This guy is EASILY one of the best drummers in all of metal!

  • @Steve128967 i cant agree! check this ---> youtube.com/watch?v=x4QNCV-09E0

  • @fcukingalien I know who Gergo is and he's certainly incredibly talented, I was referring to drummers who predominantly play extreme metal though.

  • @Steve128967 So if u like metal jsut chek this band -->youtube.com/watch?v=MYnDG9oTWjg&translated=1

    Or this

    youtube.com/watch?v=t0oyCXSd02U&translated=1

  • @fcukingalien Not a fan of death or metalcore at all really.

  • after joey jordiston!

  • @17jaj Uuuuuuuh... not really...

  • @Steve128967 no dude of all time, i thought he was all blasting until i saw this. this guy is incredible all round.

  • @Steve128967

    Check out John Karel

    Your opinion will quickly change

  • @cheesenugget38 Jon is amazing, yeah, and one of my favorite metal drummers for that matter. I would also consider him one of the best. (note I said one, implying there's multiple haha)

  • @Steve128967

Hahah sorry I thought you were one of those "Matt Griener/Joey Jordison" dudes.

But yeah, I kinda missed that one of HAHAHAAHAH

    I am a big durp

  • @cheesenugget38 No worries mayne. I do think Matt and Joey are both good drummers, but there's just so many better drummers out there, even in metal.

  • at 2:25 my cock exploded

  • @LuKeG103 And you still took the time to write a comment, that's pretty beast. If my cock did that I'd bet that youtube would be the last thing on my mind, but maybe that's just me, eh? ^^

  • @LuKeG103

    same

that was painful in a good way though

  • anyone know what type of splash he hits at 0:52

  • does he have seribral paulsy or something he looks like it

  • That china in the right sounds like shit it does have volume and sound horrible

  • @adaaaan sense make? i feel so bad that grammar means nothing to people anymore

  • @Leibe2 Hahahaha, Thats because im still learning english, im not american.

  • @adaaaan oh sorry man, my bad

  • @Leibe2 No problem dude(:

  • I noticed in this video, that Roddy has got any ear grauds or any thing like that. Was there a reason for this because he not setting a good example to younger followers of his work. A gr8 perfromance however.

  • I fucken love that heel-toe thing he does on the hi-hat... splash..close..splash..close :)

  • His solos go to down the most random paths. but some how ALWAYS tie together

  • one of the best in the world!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Can someone tell me what the the two crashes he's using are? I know they're Meinl but the specifics of them..

  • @TaLDrummer I believe they are a Byzance extra dry thin crash on his left, and a Byzance jazz crash on the right (There are several types of Byzance jazz crashes, I'm not sure which kind though).

  • @FollowHim4Eternity Awesome! Thanks for the help! Cheers!

  • at 1:50 is that arnold shwartzeneger in the backround

  • those hi hats are tasty!

  • HAHA! a blast beat right in the middle of a funk beat haha

  • God, that was quite a show =p

  • man it's a good thing deathmetal takes no tallent.....can you imagine that dude with it? lol fierce

  • @743d deathmetal takes no talent!? i LOL @ you, death metal takes the most skill.

  • @TheDeathMetalFan666 No wonder why people think gods exist, with music like this, Evil and Extreme

  • @TheDeathMetalFan666 Death Metal does not take the most skill. BUT HEY BEFORE YOU GET MAD I LOVE IT TOO... I just dont really think it takes the most...

  • @Wolfparade51 metal as a whole is the hardest stuff to play, imo its on par with jazz they just take different elements, for example metal is more speed and bass work, jazz is more complexity, however metal has its own degree of complexity so imo they are on par

  • @Wolfparade51 i would like to see any non metal drummer (a jazz drummer wouldn't be able to!) try to play death metal on the spot. lol they wouldn't be able to do it so Death metal does take the most skill/talent whatever yuo wanna call it.

  • 3:11 "MUST..N0T..BLAST." lol. Good shit.

  • @mistamontiel

    lol

thats the funniest comment ive ever seen

  • This dude fkin schools-period. I think the reason some people don't like his metal stuff is it gets almost too complex -like a guitar player shedding sounds but on drums.

  • This proves you can fit blast beats in to jazz.

I think him being an all around god has finally melded into one perfect sounding drummer.

  • @Dshnizal15 Blast beats did actually come from jazz drumming and yes, he is a pretty well-rounded drummer =D.

  • @SasukeYusuke Defend that blasts came from jazz. That's a pretty wild claim there.

  • @zgates "Blast beats originated in performances by jazz drummers of the 1950s, 60s and 70s such as Tony Williams, Angelo Spampinato, and Sunny Murray" got this off wikipedia. Sure, back then it didn't have this name, but the technique was used.

  • @SasukeYusuke I always thought Napalm Death were the creators of blast beats? Hm, guess you learn something new every day? lol

  • Very good !!!

  • so Derek can groove. He's not only superfast-tech-blast-nogrove-fuckingspeedmetal drummer.

Ok I like more in this way

  • 2:18 is awesome along with the whole, he was amazing at drum scene just recently gone.

  • crazy foot cymbal shi going on there

  • fun to hear the bassdrum without trigger

  • there was some metal in that

  • he looks like a bit of a pedophile in this video

  • 2:23...."DIE YOU FUCKING TOMS DIE !!!!!!!!!"

  • I love seeing a metal drummer who is better than most other metal drummers when it comes to style and education. dude could play every style well if he wanted too. Way better than most drummers around ...forget that he is a metal drummer...brother is good!!

  • Sexy cymbals!

  • Dereks blood is 50% groove

  • Great drummer!

  • where is the NAMM show held?
