first time travelling up to workington today since I finished my placement up there, went to the remains of the north bridge and took some pictures, after seeing it on the news I felt I HAD to go up if not for the pictures at least to pay respects to the man that fought so bravely to save as many people as he cud, the sheer scale of the damage to the bridge was fantastic structurally, it's just a shame such a lovely man had to go in this way, RIP m8!!
Hi, thank you for an excellent tribute, I worked with Billy and he was a brilliant guy, he was a family liaison officer and it is tragic that his family have to suffer in this way. Billy has helped and supported so many families over the years above and beyond what is expected from a Police Officer. He will always be in our hearts.
If countries can lift themselves from particularly troubling economic downturns, so too can a rural community get up and shake off any feeling of despondency in the aftermath of floods. Whatever does'nt kill a town will make it stronger.
You said it.. I second it. If there's a trust, will you post so I can send something to help out. I'm over the pond in the US. Take care and try to keep your chin above water. Cheers.
Hey...Though it would piss off Krumbine, know that you are all in my prayers. I assume we can donate to the international Red Cross to pitch in. Let us know what else we can do!
i live in workington, i was told to get off the bridge by PC Bill Barker around 30 minutes before the bridge collapsed, in my eyes, he saved me and a few of my friends lives
this makes me sad. PC Barker is a hero. Not many people would have gone out there to stop people from getting hurt. My thoughts are with everyone involved. ~hugs~
Alan Rice flat was flooded and he lost all of his underpants to the flood waters!!!!!!!!

I saw this on the news. I didn't realise it was in Cumbria.
It's also on Dutch news websites: tinyurl (dot) com/floods-nrc
I hope it'll be over soon! Take care...
