  • kickass song!

  • Anthony Kiedis' lyrics sent me here!

  • 2 girls for every boy. We demand this! thats the spirit!

  • That was before my time. 2 girls ???? WHOOO HOOOO

  • Surf City: Two girls for every boy.

Geriatric homes: two women for every man. Why men are you complaining? It's still the same ratio.

  • To MarkFFHH, Yes, the movie was called Dead Man s Curve 1978 T V Movie starring Richard Hatch as Jan Berry and Bruce Davidson as Dean Torrence. .

  • The Beach Boys and Jan and Dean were all FRIENDS but musicialy Jan and Dean were FIRST. Jan Berry and Brian Wilson learned from EACH OTHER and even Brian gives Jan credit for being his teacher. Jan and Dean had top 40 records from 1959 to 1966. well Jan did from 1958 to 1966. Rock on Dean RIP my sweet JAN.

  • @rockinrobintweets You know Brian Wilson wrote this tune for them. You would never have heard of these guys if not for Brian Wilson giving them this huge hit.

  • @fftozer REALLY. Then WHY was Jan and Dean on American Bandstand in 1959 with a charted record called BABY TALK. The Beach Boy s didnt come on the sence untill 1961 or 1962. Jan and Dean were already on AMERICAN BANDSTAND and that was huge for the times. And Brian Wilson didnt meely GIVE it to them, Brian Wilson and Jan Berry FINISHED it together meaning CO WRITTRS. Do some research. I respect Brain Wilson PLEASE respect Jan Berry, Brian did / dose.

  • the beach boys could not have done it better though, love ya Jan and Dean..I think that you belong in the hall of fame, and I wish that Jan could have lived to see that...he over came so much...

  • LOL, Murry is still crying....

  • (*)> Two gulls for every bouy! <(*)

    (-<-) -AL-

  • rip off the beach boys :(

  • @swiggar97 Nope.....

  • sounds too much like the Beach Boys

  • Love it.........

  • Great Song True Classic from Jan and Dean cool

  • So why the hell are there two boys and one girl on the record cover?

  • @borskyviolin hahaha good point,hahaha

  • @borskyviolin Simple the other girl FAINTED. I would have if I got that close to them, my favorite always being Jan, sighhhhhhhhhhh.

  • @borskyviolin LOL, thats funny as hell

  • @borskyviolin Hey, not all wishes come true! Two girls for every guy? NOT! LOL. Sorry.

I met Jan and Dean many years ago...........nice guys. Got autographs!

  • @borskyviolin Yeah, if it's two girls for every guy, shouldn't there be three more?

  • You know, we do go surfing in Minnesota. Unfortunately, the waves don't pick up until winter on Lake Superior. People have done it, but the temp. is usually about

-40 degrees.........Burrrrrrrrrrrrrr. (And that doesn't include the windchill).

  • @debbiedamooseful HI debbie, But aren't the Trashmen from Minnesota? They did a few underrated surf tunes not to mention their wonderful classic the "surfin' bird'

  • @lunchmind Yep, the Trashmen are from Mpls., MN....we all still love them. They played at a high school dance, I think. I was too busy dancing to look at the band! Back then they, along with many others were called "garage bands". My brother was way into the local scene and owned a record store. His best friend, Peter Jesperson, was huge into music in Mpls. Peter is now a record producer in Calif. Peter's brother, Al, is a member of a favorite Blue Grass band . Keep in touch!

  • 2boys 4 every girl.

  • Brilliant song, those were the days!

  • Saw Jan and Dean many years ago in Anoka, MN, at a car show. Jan needed help with his lyrics. I think he passed not to long after. I got autographs on a T-shirt that I was wearing! They were great! Keep loving them!

  • This song is awesome!!!

  • Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys co-wrote that great song with Jan Berry of Jan & Dean.

  • jimmy neutron

  • one of these days, I shall have an anus

  • lol only 2?

  • This is one of my all time favourite songs xD

And "it aint got a backseat or a rear window" sums up my classic little car.

Perffeeeeeeeeeeect song <3 This is how music should be!

  • Jan & Dean belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

They had many hits, fans and helped to create sounds that were legendary.

J&D and the Beach Boys created the California surf sound that helped to define the 1960's.

I shake my head at some of the acts already in the Hall.

Many did not do half of what Jan & Dean did.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • @GeorgeVreelandHill Bubblegum music with no lasting value.

  • they should remember brian wilson for this no jan and dean : /

  • Surfin music!

  • Han je keaffe !

  • this is music ladies and gentlemen. music in the 50's-60 were peaceful, fun , simple and always had a theme or a messege to it. it didn't matter what race you were, music attracted everyone and mostly everyone respected one another. there were no swears in the songs. singers had class by dressing neatly. today music focuses on different groups and sure hell not the same. music is crap today. no one respects anyone anymore. well if i had a voice, i will try to bring back music like this.

  • @statetrooper012 haha the good music of the 50's was called "race music" and white america hated it. No idea where u got the "it didnt matter what race you were." Listen to kick out the jams by the MC5 which came out in '69. Not real peaceful brah

  • R.I.P

    William Jan Berry

    1941-2004

  • OMG sounds Like The Beach Boys HAHA

  • @babyimawantyou

Technically it kind is. Brian Wilson took part in this

  • In honour of goin' to Torquay today...Australia's Surf City!

  • My math teacher plays this every day because we're learning about ratios :)

  • This is one of those songs that make you want to go back to California in the 60s.

  • Wanna a surf board and i can't even swim.

  • Great song! Greetings from a great surf city! Tamarindo Costa Rica!

  • the dude has a woody.

  • love iit!!

  • Good song.

  • Great song, plus it has Brian Wilson singing on the falsetto part.,

  • @TJCATLOVER I stand corrected on this by a comment below. SOrry

  • 2 girls for every boys but on the picture there is 2 boys for 1 girl but whatever its a good clasic

  • I got a woody hearing this song :)

  • two girls for every boy.. I like THAT ratio

  • Jan and Dean will always rule!!!

  • I LOVE YOU DEAN !!!....you really brought the songs to perfection!!!!!!!!!!

  • if you get a chance, check out the movie "dead man's curve" with richard hatch.

    classic.

  • Its weird how they say "Two girls for every boy", yet the cover of the album shows a picture of a girl and two guys. :P

  • i've always found the chorus of this tune just a rewrite of the beach boys first song "surfin". brian did that a lot when he gave songs around.

  • high quality upload! thanx!

the ending guitar riffs in this song is what MADE surf music!

and they are so so very hard to perform.

  • awesome song!!!!!!!!!!!check out zaccums vids

  • How come we never got the law changed to accomodate Jan and Dean's cool idea?

    Sounds good until the divorce!

  • Mike Love used to listen to this when he was in high school. :)

    cos it's 2 on 1....lmao or should i say 2 to 1

  • Only 2 girls ...............?

  • @beenwronged LOL !!!!

  • HUNTINGTON BEACH!!! THE ONE AND ONLY SURF CITY!!

  • Thank GOD my parents raised me on this old stuff!

  • "Two girls for every boy"

It's how life should be lived.

  • @doug5421 Why just 2?

  • Respond to this video...Why just 2?

  • @doug5421 If it is 2 girls for every boy, then from the way my life is lived I know there is some boy who has 4 girls. Groan.

  • @doug5421 The party dosn't start until at least 5 babes show up! five of them & one of me! :)

  • @doug5421 hahah im a girl but it's funny :D

  • @rubine24

Haha, I thought it was too :D

  • @doug5421 it's how it's gonna be in the future-It's gonna be 7 girls for every boy

  • @doug5421 When I met Jan and Dean some years ago, I thought the opposite! Two boys for "me". What a couple of nice guys they were! Miss Jan. Haven't heard about Dean. Any news?

  • "Slick Jimmy Don Clyde - Undefeated Drag Racer" et al.

  • Brian at his best. Always giving to others. Good music

  • Who did the falsetto on this 1? Was it Brian Wilson? Somebody let me know. Billboard's 133rd #1 hit of the rock era. God bless! RIP, Jan Berry.

  • @DaveWollenberg Yes that is Brian Wilson doing the high background part. Made a lot of people think this was the Beach Boys.

  • J & D were mighty big in their day. Their sound is fabulous. In their start-out phase they pre-dated the Beach Boys by several years. Jan was an A-Class producer in the studio & he did indeed teach BW a few tricks, early on. But - J & D ended up going the way of Mike Love, in a kinda way .. they got stuck in that sun / sand / surf / hotrod / summer means fun genre .. & couldn't ever get unstuck from that rather narrow bandwidth (though that sound per se is fantastic to hear & behold) ...

  • @colindominy In a way they kind of pioneered the surf/fun in the sound genre in 1958 with Jennie Lee and Gas Money, but Baby Talk and There's A Girl from 1959 has all the elements of what would eventually become known as surf music. If you haven't heard those songs, be sure to check them out.

  • @MVillani1985 : yep, I have all 4 of those cuts that you mention, in my own collection. I find myself playing them often - they're mega-infectious .. I get my drum-sticks out, & swing & beat right along with rhythm on the up-tempo numbers - especially Gas Money. Cheers & thanks for your comment, mate.

  • @colindominy I think that's pretty much right. When the surf craze ended after 1964, Jan & Dean didn't end up being as successful in taking their music in a new direction as the Beach Boys were, despite the fact that they continued to put out good songs, like I Found A Girl and You Really Know How To Hurt A Guy. They obviously continued to be popular in 1965-66, but '63-'64 were their peak years, which was true of most groups that became popular with the surf sound.

  • 'When the surf craze ended after 1964,....WRONG!. Maybe, in your world, but not mine!.

1965--69 was my beach, sand, and surfin' years.

I was 15 in '65, my beach, Cronulla, south of Sydney, Australia, had it all.

My Brother and I lived in a three bedroom place, 300 yards/metres from high tide.

Each day after work, we hit the water.

Both of us were fantastic board riders-BULLSHIT!-we were hopeless!.

Stand up for eight seconds was a good day!.

Fab times. Mates, Girls, (oh yeah!), fun!.

  • @twinstu50 You're right of course--I was referring to surfing music here. Surfing as a sport obviously didn't stop! What are the waves like in that part of Australia? Unfortunately, I live on the Atlantic coast in South Carolina, which is like a millpond--the waves don't seem to get much over 3 feet on most days--except at certain spots.

  • @galoon

The waves at Cronulla vary. Summer has it all, smooth curlers, to bloody nasty 'dumpers', they come howling in, bloody brilliant for bodysurfing, hit shallow water, rear up, instantly lose shape and CRASH in a mess of foam, sand, and anything dumb enough to be on it, or get in the way, - ME!.

    All good fun though.

Winter, the surf can be nasty and storm affected, but 8-10 feet plus is not unusual, they're only for the serious surfers, the rips and undertow play for keeps.

  • Surf City is actually the famous nickname for Hungtington Beach California which i live 5 minutes away from. Its known for the beautiful beaches and Entertainment.

  • Since Chuck Norris moved into Surf City, the waves are afraid to come ashore.

  • My ipod cums

  • @ddr122 your stupid comment shows how disgustingly nasty your generation is.... it doesn't belong here.... go listen to lady gaga

  • actually I wiped my ass a few extra times this morn, had an extra load if ya know what I mean

  • thumbs up if @thefinebros and ab brought you here

  • via King Of Queens episode :D

  • Oldies! Nuff said

  • lol The Beach Boys are singing backup on this recording! They also provided backup vocals on "Little Old Lady from Pasadena" and Jan's voice is the lead on the Beach Boys cut of 'Barbara Ann'.

  • @hshatch616 Actually, it's Dean singing lead on "Barbara Ann". :)

  • @hshatch616 Brian is the only Beach Boy on this record. He and the Matadors provide back up vocals here. On the Little Old Lady from Pasadena, it's Phil Sloan and Steve Barri on backing vocal. The Beach Boys are not on Little Old Lady at all.

  • @hshatch616 Actually, Dean Torrence sang the lead on the Beach Boys' version of "Barbara Ann"

  • lol The Beach Boys are singing backup on this recording!

  • Yes ... The Beach Boys took there beat ... away ... well ... I like the Beach Boys to ..

  • @dhsmitt Huh? Brian Wilson wrote this song and "gave" it to Jan & Dean

  • @TheBeachboys4ever old news

  • One of the greatest pieces of music history I ever saw: Summer 1981, The Beach Boys throw a free concert in front of the QE II at Long Beach...Rick Springfield and Pablo Cruise were the opening acts. Wolfman Jack was the host...and Jan & Dean get on stage and sing Good Vibrations with The Beach Boys. How the hell is THAT for a "California experience" for a kid from the east coast?! Thanks for the upload.

  • OMG...just turned 40 and STILL remember listen to this on the way to the beach as a kid!!!!

  • that is actually the beach boys cuz there's 4 voices in the fucking song man... this was is the beach boys version...

  • Funny listening to this as it had obviously has that Beach Boys sound(and Brian of course wrote it)

  • lol you could become a car mechanic listening to these surf songs....

  • @psychedelicbluesdiva LMMFAO!!

  • I love surf music, but THE T-BONES and THE BEACH BOYS are boss.

  • Anyone Remember a TV Movie about Jan and Dean in the late 1970's?

  • Wish I could turn back the years! Miss this type of music so much!

  • one of the best surf songs ever!

  • @alancw3

There is a great £3.5 million surf reef in Boscombe...BH5...Dorset

  • Sweet :)

  • Great music,huh?

  • thumbs up if you love this song!!!

  • This is definately a great beach classic right here!

  • I know where I'd like to be.

  • for corections jan berry en brian wilson wrote it togheter

  • Jan, Dean, and Brian had a great harmony on this track.

  • 4 people dat dnt know ..brian wilson of the beach boys wrote this :) it could've been a beach boys hit but brian was generous enough 2 give it 2 jan and dean..

  • Saw them perform at the Orange County Fairgrounds in CA. during the 80's.

  • another great song written by Brian Wilson

  • yeah :) thats true

two girls for eveeeeeeeeeeeeery BOY :D

  • The first song about threesomes!

  • ..........The Beach Boys were better.

  • Besides here comes the sun by the beatles this my all time favorite song the 60s this song is golden,

  • Nothin' but the classics :D

  • i wasn't there - - back then in '63 on the beaches of socal was it really 2 girls for every boy? or are jan & dean imagining what they wish were the ratio? i notice the record sleeve shows the opposite - - 2 guys and 1 woman.

  • @wallofvideo And judging by the appearance and hairstyle of the guys, I don't think the girl would be getting much involvement..

  • I remember going swimming years ago during the summer at the El Camino College pool in Redondo Beach and they played this song over the PA.....great memories!!!

  • one of my favorite surf songs!

  • oooooooooooooooOWOOOOOOOO

  • I've composed a version of this song that's strictly for lovers of Japanese animation. I call it "Anime City." Maybe only the anime-lovers would fully understand the lyrics, but it's still fun to sing.

Even in the universe of dewy-eyed damsels and their unruly-haired heroes, Jan & Dean's "Golden Ratio" still applies...

  • im 12 and i love these songs im going into 7th grade does that tell u that im the wierdest kid u seen?

  • @Habbolistic, you're definitely not the weirdest kid, When I was 12 I loved Queen and Beach Boys and ELO because I was raised on it, I got picked on for it, but this stuff is waaaay better than the manufactured crap you hear today, you listen to what YOU like and don't give a crap about what anyone else thinks :)

  • @Habbolistic ha.yes.weird in a good way!

  • Ahh.....harks back to the days of fast sports cars, summers at the beach, great music by Jan and Dean, Beach Boys....those were the days!

  • Screw what mathematicians say, Jan and Dean know the TRUE golden ratio...

  • @mmeyer1

    ROFL. Somebody should bronze that.

  • Whenever my woody breaks down I tell the women it's the first time it's happened to me!

  • Now, for me, this is the sound of summer! Jan & Dean music on the radio back in the 1960s!!! I love them so much that I have bought a CD with all their Liberty Record label hits. Jan Berry was an amazing man! He and Brian Wilson of The Beachboys made this Jan & Dean's first chart hit. From there, Jan Berry went into overdrive getting his version of the California surf music out there over the radio airwaves. (Linda, later Linda McCartney, is the name used for one of their hits!) Cool!

  • more like two boys for every boy!!!!!!

  • he said woody

  • "Two girls for every boy."?

I'm guessing I'm not the first to point this out, but the album cover suggests that Surf City is 'two boys for every girl'.

Jan and Dean should have four girls around them in the photo, not one.

If she's worth four, they are forgiven.

  • Jan and Dean were big in NYC also !

  • 1 cock for every girl!!!

  • until jan had his accident jan and dean were on a par with the beach boys.

  • Why not 2 boys for every boy?

  • my penis goes boner when i hear this song

  • @cocoluvslego1st

yeaaaaaaaahhhhhh two girls by my side on my car

  • @cocoluvslego1st for how long? Viagra and/or Cialis doesn't count.

  • @etbella3 my boners are all real

  • I saw Jan and Dean in Pasco, Washington in 1979. What a concert! They were great and they had a great band from Disneyland with them. Small town Eastern Washington, on the baseball field, great food! And I took home a high school girl...I was 31 then....

  • if the woody breaks down, you got 2 girls to push ha ha.

  • I got a woody for two girls....

  • hehehehe i'm wondering if i should get a woody or a jeep. hmmm....

  • Summer feeling

  • Do you have A Surfer's Dream by any chance???? It wasn't a hit but it was a good song

  • they dont make songs like they use to these days

    that gos for everybody

  • I love this song~~!!!!

  • @LiterateNigger enlighten me

  • this is in that corus song i have that is slpit up in to 5 siongs and this song i in it from the beging to 0:48 xD

  • Brian was a great Falsetto. I never knew that was him on the beach boy songs, until some years back. I always assumed it was one of the other members of the group. I had never seen them on video, until recently. I only had there songs on Vinyl.

  • SURF CITY — (Jan Berry - Brian Wilson)

She's My Summer Girl — (Jan Berry - Don Altfeld - Brian Wilson)

    Liberty 55580 - (May)

BRIAN WILSON DOUBLES LEAD VOCAL WITH JAN BERRY ON "SURF CITY"

  • Brian Wilson wrote this.

  • is it brian wilson in the background doing falsetti?

    it sounds very "brian" there

  • It was in fact Brian Wilson doing the falsetto,

    and he also wrote this.

  • Comment removed

  • Brian and Dean sang the falsettos.
