Its just like modeling. You wouldnt be interested in a Victorias secret ad if there was a huge chick on the cover , same goes for cosplayers. Since it is a form of presenting yourself, Its obviously not going to be as well received coming from someone who does not fit a "standard", rather than someone who does.
However In the end it doesnt really matter as long as the person did what they wanted to.

I think anyone should cosplay whatever they want, as long as they have fun. I sure as hell am NOT asian, but I plan on making a Tifa costume sometime soon. It's all about paying respect to the shows/characters you love and having fun while you do it. Though, even though I do disagree with that point, I'd say nice video. At least you gave your opinion in a more mature way that most people on youtube (or the internet in general) do.
I like to cosplay. :) I may not always look EXACTLY like my characters, but I always try my hardest because I want to represent and pay homage to the character I love. I even try to lose some weight and cut my hair depending on the character. (BTW I'm not japanese) I'm really dedicated to it haha I'm kind of a loser. XP
One advice to you my friend. Your base is good all you have to do is get rid of girly hairs get bracers for a year or 2. (trust me its for your own good) 3rd go to gym for 1 year (dedicate yourself, but some muscle on ur bony structure) and eat healthy so if you follow these instructions you will start to look good in about a year of 2. Trust me. i have seen alot of people go from freakishly holy crap to WOW. So its your decision to pick which you want to be.O AND SHAVE YOUR FACE.

I'm white and I love to cosplay when I go to conventions I see ppl who r not white and they still look good in their cosplay I don't think only Japanese ppl should cosplay even tho they look good in cosplay...that's just my opinion...
if you're going as a character that you dont look like... make sure its a hooded figure...( for example Organization Xiii... even if you dont look like roxas, axel, Etc... but you can always keep the hood on...
while I agree that people should try to cosplay people they look more like, I really DON'T agree that it should be left to the Japanese. There are some AMAZING cosplayers that are not Japanese and look more like the characters because of that. And Frankly, I think Final Fantasy is a GOOD example of cosplayers that are better when they're NOT Asian. The Final Fantasy guys and girls don't look Japanese, so non-Japanese people cosplaying them look far more accurate.

Anime is HUGE outside of Asia and getting much bigger, I have over 6,000 friends on this site and most of the anime fans (which is alot) are from the UK and the USA. I even have friends from the USA that have their accounts set to Japan just because they love anime that much,

@ReggaeZal Haha Yeah. I know alot of people from places like Spain, Germany and Russia that love anime. In fact, on alot of anime videos you'll see people from those countries fighting over which dubs are best. Many German dubs are great, cause unlike the USA dubs, they try and keep it as close to the Japanese as they can (names, story etc).

They should SOMEWHAT look like the person they are playing. No, you do not get a 200 lbs margin for error, no, you cant be white and put tape around your eyes to look whapanese. Yes, just because you can, doesn't mean you should. At AWA they call me the "you're doing it wrong guy" because I'm notorious for shouting it out to the bad cosplayers. (Crowds applaud and laugh). I haven gone to Dragon Con yet, but a friend who frequently works security there says they desperately need me.
I'm with you about some of the things you mentions. like over weight ppl dressing like FFX-2 or something... I really think they should pick a character with more clothing at the least x.x and I'm one of the people who cant go to conventions either because of where i live... plus i hide my anime side so i dont really have anyone to go with D:

They don't do cosplays around here, which is a shame, because I'm a total cartoon-anime-geek :D I wouldn't even have to dress up, in just a jeans and a tshirt I could go as MJ from spiderman :D But I do think that characters like Aerith aren't necessarily Japanese, she has blueish-green eyes and brown hair :)

Cloud and Squall aren't Japanese. You feel their Japanese because their hair is naturally spikey? lol A good portion of cosplay potrays characters who aren't specified as japanese.

And, even if you aren't Japanese, you should dress up as whoever your favorite character is because you have the right to. Though I do agree with you that, you have to try to get look at least 80 to 85%. Awsome vid.

I'm white and I love to cosplay when I go to conventions I see ppl who r not white and they still look good in their cosplay I don't think only Japanese ppl should cosplay even tho they look good in cosplay...that's just my opinion...

if you're going as a character that you dont look like... make sure its a hooded figure...( for example Organization Xiii... even if you dont look like roxas, axel, Etc... but you can always keep the hood on...

while I agree that people should try to cosplay people they look more like, I really DON'T agree that it should be left to the Japanese. There are some AMAZING cosplayers that are not Japanese and look more like the characters because of that. And Frankly, I think Final Fantasy is a GOOD example of cosplayers that are better when they're NOT Asian. The Final Fantasy guys and girls don't look Japanese, so non-Japanese people cosplaying them look far more accurate.

haha im happy to see someone actually voicing there opinion but in my opinion i dont think asian's can cosplay all ff ppl like in ff13 that just came out, an asian couldnt do snow, hes to masculine with blond hair, Asian boys are to little to do something like that. and asian girls cant do someone like blair from soul eater cause she has a very American girl body with the big boobs and asians dont have that unless there mixed or have fake boobs lol
so rly it deppends on who there cosplaying :)

well, i would like to point out that a lot of the FF and KH characters are made to look like white people, some aren't. like cloud and squall look like white people, while rikku or yuffie look asian, so yeah

Anime is HUGE outside of Asia and getting much bigger, I have over 6,000 friends on this site and most of the anime fans (which is alot) are from the UK and the USA. I even have friends from the USA that have their accounts set to Japan just because they love anime that much,

@ReggaeZal Haha Yeah. I know alot of people from places like Spain, Germany and Russia that love anime. In fact, on alot of anime videos you'll see people from those countries fighting over which dubs are best. Many German dubs are great, cause unlike the USA dubs, they try and keep it as close to the Japanese as they can (names, story etc).

They should SOMEWHAT look like the person they are playing. No, you do not get a 200 lbs margin for error, no, you cant be white and put tape around your eyes to look whapanese. Yes, just because you can, doesn't mean you should. At AWA they call me the "you're doing it wrong guy" because I'm notorious for shouting it out to the bad cosplayers. (Crowds applaud and laugh). I haven gone to Dragon Con yet, but a friend who frequently works security there says they desperately need me.

I really think they should pick a character with more clothing at the least x.x and I'm one of the people who cant go to conventions either because of where i live... plus i hide my anime side so i dont really have anyone to go with D:

They don't do cosplays around here, which is a shame, because I'm a total cartoon-anime-geek :D I wouldn't even have to dress up, in just a jeans and a tshirt I could go as MJ from spiderman :D But I do think that characters like Aerith aren't necessarily Japanese, she has blueish-green eyes and brown hair :)
