  • This video needs to be reuploaded and have a catchy background song. This video deserves millions of viewers

  • must be a bitch cleaning all this shit up

  • i enjoyed this vid

  • I am mechanical engineer too xD but I will never ever do something like this

  • The tune from close encounters was a nice touch.

  • Howard Wolowitz!

  • superb!

  • While somewhat inventive, this lacks the elegance one would expect of a mechanical engineer, and has more of that 12-year-old-who-is-bored quality.

  • wow !!!!!!!! humm im a mechanical engineer but wow the suprized me thats alot of time on someones hands, why not get get a milling machine and a small lathe in the garage :P x

  • dude that guy should so not be single cuase if you can make something that kick ass

  • That's some proper Wallace and Gromit shit there lads.

  • I'd like to see your work before retirement!

  • "and now we are cleaning up the mess!" , "Yeah, it's a challenge..." :D

  • This should be title "why mechanical engineers get divorced when they retire"

  • thats just crazy lol

  • lol

  • how has this got 16 dislikes? this is the best video of its kind in the world. end of.

all i say is hats off to you man. your one clever son of a bitch... and the bullseye killed it mate lol

  • would have been awesome if all that had been so that a cup that was a few inches away from your hand moved forward slightly so you could grab it without having to reach for it :p

  • WOW. The precision!

  • Too much time?

    I say time well spent.

  • pee wee breakfast machine?

  • This guy just became my favorite person ever.

  • This is fucking great! =D

  • Wow. Awesome

  • I call shanigans.

  • call ur mom for tidy everything!

  • I liked the watermill.

  • Couple cuts in the video makes me believe this didn't work in one take. It had to be done multiple times and the video spliced together.

  • lol @ Bostock and Chandler

  • EPIC!

  • Have fun cleaning all this crap up

  • But will it blend?!

  • whaaaaa

    AMAZING

    high five!

  • first you gotta do the truffle shuffle

  • Comment removed

  • cause and effect,,,,,ok

  • @taktika22 Rube Goldberg Machine. This is so pointless, and yet so awesome.

  • this is amazing but i was just waiting for something to go wrong xD

  • dude, thats amazing^^

  • 2:16 phone is white, then BOOM 2:17 phone is black? I don't think this whole contraption went together, some of the parts seemed to skip over r not be connected.

  • @ginabunny10 The white phone calls the black one which then vibrates and loose it's grip and slides down the book. Understand? :)

  • @trondelond OHHH! I get it now. I feel stupid -.- Thanks

  • @ginabunny10 You'll note that the white phone was dialing out. The black phone was receiving the call (hence the vibrating to get where it needed to go). It seems like these were two different set ups: One to dial the phone and one to roll the credits. The two phones are how the set ups were connected to each other.

  • now clean it up.

  • Again! Can we do that again Daddy?

  • that guy is sooo single!

  • is there a term we called with this kind of stuff? what is it called? someone please help me... if it does not have a name yet let's invent a name for it..

  • @taktika22 Rube Goldberg machine

  • Oddly enough, this reminds me of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang....

  • 13 people are in a coma and did not witness what the rest of us just did!

  • I kept waiting for the OK GO music to start playing...

  • badass

  • wow man, i impressed. i am an engineer too and do my best.

  • TOM AND JERRY !

  • @Kreepeuromg1o0fat all the way :DDDDD

  • 12 are in a coma and did not witness what the rest of us have!

  • that's one way to turn on your TV

  • poor wife

  • where can i buy one?

  • Absolutely incredible :D

  • Slinky was the riskiest part

  • the next thing he did was honda commercial:)

  • Brilliant. This must have taken weeks to design and set up.

  • 2:06 GHOST O_O

  • Youtube take the bloody religious ads off your site.

  • @outcast569 I have not seen an ad on youtube in months

  • guys... if you ask an engineer how he scratches hi left ear, he will swing his right arm over his head and use the right hand to scratch it from above. engineers like doing stuff the hard way, because they learn more. and they get to make cool shit.

  • Is it just me, or is the slinky actually going down the stairs the most impressive part of this video?

  • @bubblesman01 I thought the same thing, My entire childhood spent i i could never get it to go down all the way

  • @bubblesman01 the hammer hitting the cue ball to the cardboard box pretty good

  • This is awesome! That is all.

  • So i thought it was either gonna make my breakfast or shoot me. But still awesome!

  • That is the most badass shit I have seen in my ENTIRE FUCKING LIFE

  • I was like "OH GOD THE RUBIK'S CUBE!"

  • bravo!

  • hold up hold up... all of that? just to open the window?.... I invented sth better: HAND...

  • The only impressive thing here is that you got that slinky to actually walk down the stairs

  • amazing.

  • I AM FROM GEORGIA TECH AND I APPROVE OF THIS VIDEO!

  • this clearly could not have been done in one take. how many tries did you have to do before it worked?

  • bullshit, it has cuts in the video, fake

  • Did I hear the Close Encounters song when the glasses dinged?

  • "Muuuumm, do we still have mousetrap?"

  • I would have been more impressed if the curtains pulled back to reveal the 3 of diamonds, WHICH INDEED WAS YOUR CARD!!

  • 3:01 is that a 3" contact juggling ball?

  • how did he get all those chess peices to move?

  • @thisisgame Magnetic chess set i believe

  • Why not one continuous shot?

  • Thats the first time I've EVER seen a slinky manage to go all the way down the stairs...

  • I love me some rube goldberg machines

  • Rube Goldberg machine much?

  • That was a good use of 3 minutes and 18 seconds of my time

  • Now take it apart ^^ Nice, you know what those things are called (One thing starts another machines??)

  • @FireSqy Rube Goldberg machines.

  • @FreebassFM Thanks :)

  • so much just open some fucking curtains lol

  • Stupid ads ruined youtube

  • What manner of sorcery is this?

  • There's no way all of this happened in one go. Still kinda cool.

  • I'm sure the wife would've had a field day with this.

  • so when your retire you're not getting laid?

  • how many cameras filmed this??

  • MY GOD, A SLINKY THAT WORKS

  • hahahah awesome

  • Ladeda, just getting some breakfast AERARTTGGHGHHHHH CROSSBOW WTF

  • I don't even..

  • Childhood expert here.

Who the fuck trusts a slinky to WORK?

  • @MrAndyman0909 The one time someone gets a slinky to work...takes an engineer I guess.

  • Cake.

  • An excellent example of a Rube Goldburg machine. Well done

  • CHESS BOARD .... i don't get it

  • @bloodstone1445 its check mate and the trick is done with a few magnets

  • How many times did that slinky fail you...seriously.

  • ok go, eat your heart out

  • either you had to run this thing like 20 times or you own a lot of video cameras.

  • Wow, talk about Forever Alone.

  • Holy hell

  • THE best Rube Goldburg I've seen to date.

  • Engineering is the practical application of both art and science.

One can "Over-engineer" or get to the point.

Take a look at machinery from the late 1880s to the 1940s for examples of artistic designs in machinery, with the Art Deco era being perhaps the most exciting.

Now engineering is almost bland as it is so featureless.

Look at the Empire State building and contrast this to any modern skyscraper and you will understand.

  • Beautiful :D

  • so... how many tries did it take?

  • I had to watch it twice because I completely forgot what initiated that torrent of madness. Clever...alarm clock opens the curtains. It all makes sense!

  • This is so amazing!!!!!!!

  • this is probly one of the most fun creative rubgoldgerb style machines ive seen in a while .... also the cellphone was a rele nice touch lol

  • wow

  • @hafmusta

With all respect to your opinion, the point of engineering is CREATIVITY. My father is an engineer and if there is one thing I have learned of him in life, is how to be creative and do STUNNING works.

  • @ChaldeanSoldier Wow! Great and CREATIVE work. Love the cellphone part :)

  • @ChaldeanSoldier You do realise that your dad is on a par with Emmit Brown! The opening sequence to BTTF is seemingly feeble compared to the one we see here!

  • @ChaldeanSoldier You're both wrong. Engineering is simply problem-solving. A good engineer creates a better solution to a problem than already exists. Rube Goldberg machines are the polar opposite to the philosophy that drives good engineering. They are nothing more than a novelty.

  • @GaseousAnomaly001 Are you suggesting some sort of significance test for engineering? "I have these dozens of random objects and want to create a situation where setting one of them in motion will trigger a string of activity that ends with credits being shown downstairs," is a problem that was unsolved before this was created. Just because it's not a problem that you consider worthy or significant, does not make it any less of a problem or unworthy of being considered engineering.

  • @GaseousAnomaly001 There is nothing wrong with using engineering methods and techniques to create things that have artistic value or are intrinsically entertaining.

  • @ChaldeanSoldier most engineers now are retarded, though

  • @ffffaffff What a completely ridiculous and unfounded statement.

  • @hafmusta get a life

  • @hafmusta When your industry sucks the life out of you and you forget why you ever became an engineer in the first place, i hope you remember this video

  • Fake! lol jk

  • now that...is incredible

  • You have got to be shitting me !!!!!

  • brill

    the slinky was a wildcard

  • can you say trial and error?:)

  • only thing left is to reset it

  • insane how in the world!

  • deserves way mor views

  • That is just so brilliant!

  • Yea, great...but why? :S

  • LOL haha great. i was amazed

  • BIG house o_o

  • Brilliant, witty, and just plain fun.

    Thank you!

  • lol LOL

  • being able to think of things like this makes going to school for mechanical engineering worth it. it's about the knowledge, and the power to create for me; as well as think outside the box. the job opportunities are especially nice

  • OMFG!! Is this for real??? Awesome..

  • is this tom and jerry?

  • @poik99 For some reason, I thought of tom and jerry while watching this haha

  • My friend is a just -graduated and now working Mining Engineer. I wonder what they do when they're retired? lol!

  • Engineers never retire!

  • reminds me of that breakfast machine that peter made in family guy in which the end result was peter himself getting shot...

  • imagine reseting this

  • Fucking awesome.

  • I've seen 5 same vids(excluding this one) With different names. I liked it the first time ... but now I hate it...

  • an engineer is someone who washes his hands before going to the toilet

  • niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

  • haha thats cool we watched this in our science class

  • It should've returned to the bedroom.... LoL

    That was great! 5/5

  • holy shit, glad your retired

  • And then mom got home, and made Charlie clean it all up.

  • wow! and awsme is all that could come to mind. im sure you could think of other words, but you also could proubly use a rc car and a mouse trap and other stuff to open a book and just tell me other words.

  • i know its probably the best thing ive seen in a while, but its pointless to do all that for the curtains.

    just kidding this=win

  • Amazingly complecated..........

  • @42themeaningoflife amazingly good spelling...

  • That is a lot of potential energy!

  • there is no ending to it!!

Does he also put it back up during the day :O

    Ingenious!

  • simply amazing. I used to love this stuff on Looney Toons and such, pretty awesome in real life though.

  • Ahh the house

  • how did u move the chess pieces, if you used magnets how did you move them.

  • probably stop motion

  • I gave you guys 5 stars for . . . persistence.

And a few thunks on the head, just because. (;^)

  • Only a man would do this. A woman would just open the damned curtains and get on with life.

But this clever. Sort of. Well, no it isn't. In the time it took to set this mess up, the guys could have painted the house and landscaped the yard. And taken the trash out.

But boys will have their fun. (;^) And there are worse kinds of fun than cluttering up the house with cardboard contraptions.

Hmm. Guess I'm ambivalent. But it does make me glad that my hubby keeps his projects in the garage. (;^)

  • ...I think you missed the point. Both males and females can enjoy creating chain reactions, it takes a true mind to create something of this level.

  • amazing =]

  • What a fine amateur Rube Goldberg machine .

  • reminds me of the family guy episode where peter buys the breakfast making machine that shoots him in the face
