I usually follow artists and over time become increasingly disappointed with their latest music, but the blue scholars are the one of the only groups that get better and better. Thanks.
These are the Anna Karina references I picked up in the song:
"your life to live" Vivre sa Vie (My life to live)
"mad as a fool" Pierrot Le Fou (Pete the madman)
"Who all try to fuck the director" She dated and was temporarily married to the director Jean-Luc Godard who directed the above two films.
"She's a star and nobody knows it yet" This might be a reference to how the first thing she did in acting was a soap ad and it caught Godard's attention.
@oksweetnice Yeah! And there are some more... "She walks on the beach" is from Pierrot le Fou, "Cue music, close up black lights" is possibly a refernece to "Une femme est une femme"
anybody else notice the sort of reference to snoop dogg's nothin' but a g thang? Its like this and uh, its like that and uh. blue scholars is showing respect to snoop and dre. i love it. even though in this song theyre saying "Anna" im pretty sure. still sick.
The new album is fucking amazing. I dont understand why anyone would hate this group is one of the best things to happen to hip-hop in years. The fact that they dont have millions of fans blows my mind. I love these guys.
for sure i feel the same way whenever i first listened i wasnt feeling all the tracks the same way i did their old shit but i kept bumpin it and all the tracks keep growing on me the more i listen
I'm guessing you were referring to me. When I got the album, I was just excited to have it and at that time, I only previewed the tracks because I was busy. It wasn't till later that I actually listened to the lyrics and soaked it all in. It's a creative album and Yuri Kochiyama is my favorite. I did search up the names, I did not know of but I did recognize some of them.
an album like this you cant sit and listen to 15 seconds of each song and judge, you need to listen to the whole thing throughout, and then repeat, and soak it in, its genuis, the flow is movie like..and also if that doesnt help, do your research on each person each track is named after, than peep again, its unreal
To be honest, when I got my advance copy, I just previewed 15 seconds of each track.. And I didn't really vibe with it. It's not till later when I had more time, I sat down and really listened and I must say, it's worth getting the album. It's creative and smart. There's like 2 tracks that are iffy to me, but overall, it's a great album.. But hey, that's my taste heh..
@Matt3s1204 yeah dude i didn't like oof at all haha. I like tommy chong and this song off cinematropolis but over all the album isn't my favorite. i feel like it doesn't have as much political meaning as their other stuff. not trying to hate on everyones opinion
I think I like the beat more than the whole song

i used to dislike cinemetropolis compared to bayani but, once i listened to it enough i have to say its a great album

Love, love, love the Blue Scholars. Such meaning and depth in their songs, with beautifully composed instrumentals and poetic verses.

I have the advance copy.
Heads up, you have to let this album grow on you, and
dont expect the same ol' scholars from there first lp or even bayani.
this sounds like a re-established version of OOF using the same production sounds.
ITS NOT A BAD ALBUM , but its definetly my "least" fave out ouf all there EPS and LP'S.
