Guys remember the IEDs made by the iraqis mentioned in the media? Since we are resourceful, imagine what kind of IEDs we'll make. IEDs could be a good alternative IF there are NO civilians in the area.

@RealTalkification If National Guardsmen are the true militia, and they aren't paid by the Federal Government, why does it say U.S. Army on their nametabs, and why does their L.E.S.' come from the same place active duty does? @RealTalkification As a former National Guardsman, I take HIGH offense to you stating that we only have Vietnam equipment in the Guard. The ARNG comprises of over one third of the standing army, and are issued some of the top of the line gear these days. My unit was one of the FIRST to field the M320 40mm Grenade Launcher. And NG personnel are federally paid.

The most effective method of defeating tanks and APCs has always been to trap them and then burn them out. The fire extinguishing systems won't last forever and eventually you'll set an engine fire.
@omegapoint777 The pitfall has been the most successful anti-armor tool ever used. More armor has been removed from action due to 'falling down' than blowing up. Not burning gives you salvage capability.
.50 cals aren't going to faze modern tanks made w/ DU armor. Use of explosives on the Final drives of their tracks or hit their lungs via the exhaust w/ rockets. At the very least you could cause a mobility kill.
@dust2010able .50 cals arent going to even see a tank really, an M1 Abrams can engage from 5 miles away...but DU armor? idk if thats correct its just sheets of reinforced steel armor or something like that, the tank sabots themselves are depleted uranium though for increased penetration...the best bet would be guerilla tactics, if your able to hold tanks off or distract them with groups acting as a main force other standby elements could sneak behind and blow the tracks off or hit soft spots
@Mooseinmypantz I agree, I was a sapper assigned to a mechanized division and I got plenty of opportunities to see the power and range of U.S. armor ( it's scary), I knew some Tank crews who would "tap" the hulls of their friends tanks w/a .50 cal to get their attention when comms were out.
@dust2010able is that right then? the armor itself is D.U.? or a misunderstanding on my part? and yeah not much is going to stop a tank. multiple direct hits on its armor with rockets, like you said a mobility kill by blowing its tracks off or an anti-tank mine would probably be best bet but can never be sure. the problem with a mobility kill is that its 120mm cannon and its .50 caliber gun crew is still operational making it a standing fortess against infantry
@Mooseinmypantz I'm not sure the exact ratio of DU vs steel. I agree that even a mobility kill doesn't stop the deadly weapons and crew. Stopping it, bugging out and calling for mortars or artillery to finish the job would be better. Maybe getting close enough to "hug the belt" in close to climb aboard to sabotage the optics / engage the crew in CQB, set fire to the bastard! (LOL) Hopefully I'll never have to try any of that shit.

@Mooseinmypantz I don't know of the extent to which militias are armed, I'm inclined to think they are limited to small arms which I believe is all that is needed for a successful guerrilla operation. If poorly trained half crazed nuttjobs in the middle-east can outlast us, then an insurgency of well-trained former / current military and law-enforcement would surprise the domestic enemies of our Constitution beyond anything they would be prepared for.

Transports can and will be used at the discretion of the unit Cmds in each AO.
Mech forces can be used in all three of the above modes of warfare. Logistical support is already developed and has been expanded upon. Tactical level support is the first ad only answer.There will be no central S&S as that form of supply train would be easily destroyed.
I believe there should also be some counter measures against ATF and other agency tactics. Try to watch youtube videos of assaults on drug dealers and use these to understand entry formations so that good countermeasures can be implemented. This will increase your effectiveness with less casualties. Also Study your communications as the Government will attempt to disrupt all forms of communications.Good hunting.

One thing that I know about tanks is this: The tracks are the most vulnerable part of the tank. I imagine that those can be taken out with an IED, and if the tracks have been taken out, they're stopped dead and are considerably weaker as a threat.
Also, I would think that in guerilla warfare, what you would want to try to do is take tanks out of action by destroying fuel supplies.
Also the militias need to consider also that the United Nations will no doubt be called in to assist the United States Federal Troops and that's another factor as no doubt if federal infrastructure and logistics is destroyed,halted,etc then they will no doubt call on assistance from other nations such as the UK,etc to continue supplying the federal troops against militia forces so there will need to be a counter plan against foreign intervention and logistics through foreign nations.
I see ATGM'S, recoiless rifles , large caliber rifles, mortars.........etc.........only problem is these are not available to the average joe american who might want to take on such armour.......not to mention the training involved.

Software is more important than hardware. If you have ever been in combat you know how easy it is to use the enemies assets against them. Often its simple actions that dictate triumph, and not over the top stunts. 16oz of Thermite can defeat any armor vehicle, but then you wouldnt be able to use it there after. Be creative and have fun in warfare and victory will be yours.

mike....all I can tell you, is that I have trained a lot with tanks....and their biggest weakness aside from airpower... is infantry. It is not hard to beat tanks at all. You ever been in a tank in combat mock or otherwise? You have any idea how hard it is to spot infantry...especially in terrain with vegetation? It is not hard. IED's can easily detrack a tank. Obstacles such as tank traps and tank barriers can force their route of travel...it's not that hard. Dangerous? absolutely...
Like I said interdict the fuel supplies and you might stand a chance. Better way to use your IEDs that you don't have and won't work on tanks anyway. Not to mention the tanks needs to come to you and they have troops protecting them too. And while you are trying to take out the troops the tank machine guns are cutting you down like grass.
Not so simple if you need to kill a modern tank. Those terrorists in Iraq have been getting shape charges from Iran to do the damage they've been doing against U.S. armor. Homemade IED's made by 14 year olds not a chance. Inside the tank they will say "did you hear that?" ..."yeah I think somone tried to attack us, too funny."
Honestly most of our military officers are very loyal to the U.S. Constitution. There will be no funny business while they are on the job. You can count on that.
Most IED's are not shaped charges. The most common IED is artillery shells... either left over on battlefield or duds that didn't det on impact. Bombs, mortar shells, all common...I have news for you, a fertilizer bomb in a car would destroy a tank easily. A 1/4 full Ryder truck took down Oklahoma city. M1 tanks have two glaring weaknesses. The treads, and the upper rear engine compartment. The treads are particularly easy to break with a decent pipe bomb for example.
During the Gulf War only 18 Abrams tanks were taken out of service due to battle damage. And they were going against Soviet made AT weapons designed to kill those tanks.
You do realize that the Gulf War and even Iraq is a poor example because the rate of anti tanks weapons being used was minimal. A large portion of the Iraqi forces surrendered and never put up much of a resistance. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying the Abrams is bad... I am just saying that it can be done.
Secondly, shaped charges are almost exclusive to missiles, mines, and anti tank rockets. Another glaring weakness of the M1 that has been shown in Iraq is the side armor is inadequate to stop all RPG's. There are a number of examples of them penetrating. If the SHTF, how long do think it will be before there are AT4's and Javelins captured and in use? These are both well stronger than any of the RPG line.
@HatrXx78 yeah but how many of you can pick up and use a javlin? this isn't a video game you can't just pick up a high tec piece like a Javlin and point and click. better off using the rocket in an IED than wasting it trying to use it. AT4s and SMAWs are a different story they are a fire and forget rocket no complicated electronics or guidance systems there.
@jdwohlers I'll let you in on a secret. The military makes weapons simple intentionally....knowing that Pvt. Jones from Wheatfield USA struggled to get out of high school. Especially infantry weapons which are designed to be used with very basic instruction. The designers of the javelin made it very similar to a video game for this reason... after all, just about every kid uses an Xbox.

No the militia isn't going to win in a head to head fight against armor don't try. If America is a war against the NWO or whatever here is my advice. Interdict the fuel supplies and starve them out. Tanks use massive amounts of fuel. Capture enemy anti-tank equiptment and use it against them. There is nothing the Militia has that can even put a dent in modern armor. Break your units up into small three man teams you can do a lot of damage that way but they can't get very many of you.

The current U.S. armoured fighting brigade is heavily dependent on a constant supply of jet fuel to run the turbine engines in the M1 Abrams, this supply line is the weak link of U.S. armour. Destroy the supply line and the tanks and other armour are rendered useless.
The Abrams can run on gasoline, diesel, kerosene, JP4 or JP8. The military uses JP8 due to the high power to weight ratio and ease of logistics. If need be, any fuel will work however. My father was a platoon leader for a tank company support platoon...and I have worked with the tanks a lot.
I was aware that some vehicles the military uses have this ability, but I was not aware that the Abrams had it. Thank you for the correction. However, I still stick to my assertion that the easiest link to break for an armored division is that of the supply train, since all vehicles (especially the Abrams) require massive amounts of fuel to keep running.
Absolutely man... I wasn't correcting, I was adding to your post from my experiences. In the event of facing armor, the best course is; terrain-tanks are very limited in direction of travel and pursuit, infantry-tanks are most vulnerable to infantry assault, supply-limit access to logistics and it's a 90 ton paperweight, mission duration-the crews need to take a break and are vulnerable outside.
In the unfortunate circumstance where fighting erupts here... you also have to count the numbers of defection within our own military and National Guard. I am confident in saying it is highly unlikely that we would not have Abrams on our side as well. Likely whole units would defect when ordered to subdue the people and bring their entire logistical support with them. I desire peace, but I am prepared for war.
I feel the same way, I too have been banking on the possibility of a substantial number of military personnel fighting on the side of the American people in the event of an order to initiate martial law or similar scenarios.

No not saying that. Just that Guerrilla warfare tactics is all you got. Go after hardened targets and I promise you will lose. That requires a well supplied modern military force. If you're really worried about the U.S. military turning on you (I'm not) the US is a very large country. Plenty of ways to disrupt things and grind them down over a period of time. And you would have plenty of regular military assets on your side anyway. If not all.

The weapons you are showing are either unattainable or ineffective against U.S. tanks. We were shot at in my tank by small arms and it sounded like rocks were being thrown at us. A militia doesn't stand much of a chance against the U.S. tanks unless you know the secret information about them. Unfortunatly they only people that does are ex tankers and we cannot talk about it. @RealTalkification As a former National Guardsman, I take HIGH offense to you stating that we only have Vietnam equipment in the Guard. The ARNG comprises of over one third of the standing army, and are issued some of the top of the line gear these days. My unit was one of the FIRST to field the M320 40mm Grenade Launcher. And NG personnel are federally paid.

The most effective method of defeating tanks and APCs has always been to trap them and then burn them out. The fire extinguishing systems won't last forever and eventually you'll set an engine fire.

.50 cals aren't going to faze modern tanks made w/ DU armor. Use of explosives on the Final drives of their tracks or hit their lungs via the exhaust w/ rockets. At the very least you could cause a mobility kill.

@dust2010able .50 cals arent going to even see a tank really, an M1 Abrams can engage from 5 miles away...but DU armor? idk if thats correct its just sheets of reinforced steel armor or something like that, the tank sabots themselves are depleted uranium though for increased penetration...the best bet would be guerilla tactics, if your able to hold tanks off or distract them with groups acting as a main force other standby elements could sneak behind and blow the tracks off or hit soft spots

@dust2010able is that right then? the armor itself is D.U.? or a misunderstanding on my part? and yeah not much is going to stop a tank. multiple direct hits on its armor with rockets, like you said a mobility kill by blowing its tracks off or an anti-tank mine would probably be best bet but can never be sure. the problem with a mobility kill is that its 120mm cannon and its .50 caliber gun crew is still operational making it a standing fortess against infantry

Stopping it, bugging out and calling for mortars or artillery to finish the job would be better. Maybe getting close enough to "hug the belt" in close to climb aboard to sabotage the optics / engage the crew in CQB, set fire to the bastard! (LOL) Hopefully I'll never have to try any of that shit.

If poorly trained half crazed nuttjobs in the middle-east can outlast us, then an insurgency of well-trained former / current military and law-enforcement would surprise the domestic enemies of our Constitution beyond anything they would be prepared for.

Try to watch youtube videos of assaults on drug dealers and use these to understand entry formations so that good countermeasures can be implemented. One thing that I know about tanks is this: The tracks are the most vulnerable part of the tank. I imagine that those can be taken out with an IED, and if the tracks have been taken out, they're stopped dead and are considerably weaker as a threat.
Also, I would think that in guerilla warfare, what you would want to try to do is take tanks out of action by destroying fuel supplies.

Also the militias need to consider also that the United Nations will no doubt be called in to assist the United States Federal Troops and that's another factor as no doubt if federal infrastructure and logistics is destroyed,halted,etc then they will no doubt call on assistance from other nations such as the UK,etc to continue supplying the federal troops against militia forces so there will need to be a counter plan against foreign intervention and logistics through foreign nations.

Software is more important than hardware. If you have ever been in combat you know how easy it is to use the enemies assets against them. Often its simple actions that dictate triumph, and not over the top stunts. 16oz of Thermite can defeat any armor vehicle, but then you wouldnt be able to use it there after. mike....all I can tell you, is that I have trained a lot with tanks....and their biggest weakness aside from airpower... is infantry. It is not hard to beat tanks at all. You ever been in a tank in combat mock or otherwise? You have any idea how hard it is to spot infantry...especially in terrain with vegetation? It is not hard. IED's can easily detrack a tank. Obstacles such as tank traps and tank barriers can force their route of travel...it's not that hard. Dangerous? absolutely...

Like I said interdict the fuel supplies and you might stand a chance. Better way to use your IEDs that you don't have and won't work on tanks anyway. Not to mention the tanks needs to come to you and they have troops protecting them too. And while you are trying to take out the troops the tank machine guns are cutting you down like grass.

Not so simple if you need to kill a modern tank. Those terrorists in Iraq have been getting shape charges from Iran to do the damage they've been doing against U.S. armor. Homemade IED's made by 14 year olds not a chance. Inside the tank they will say "did you hear that?" ..."yeah I think somone tried to attack us, too funny."
Honestly most of our military officers are very loyal to the U.S. Constitution. There will be no funny business while they are on the job. You can count on that.

Most IED's are not shaped charges. The most common IED is artillery shells... either left over on battlefield or duds that didn't det on impact. Bombs, mortar shells, all common...I have news for you, a fertilizer bomb in a car would destroy a tank easily. A 1/4 full Ryder truck took down Oklahoma city. M1 tanks have two glaring weaknesses. The treads, and the upper rear engine compartment. The treads are particularly easy to break with a decent pipe bomb for example.

During the Gulf War only 18 Abrams tanks were taken out of service due to battle damage. And they were going against Soviet made AT weapons designed to kill those tanks.

You do realize that the Gulf War and even Iraq is a poor example because the rate of anti tanks weapons being used was minimal. A large portion of the Iraqi forces surrendered and never put up much of a resistance. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying the Abrams is bad... I am just saying that it can be done.

Secondly, shaped charges are almost exclusive to missiles, mines, and anti tank rockets. Another glaring weakness of the M1 that has been shown in Iraq is the side armor is inadequate to stop all RPG's. There are a number of examples of them penetrating. If the SHTF, how long do think it will be before there are AT4's and Javelins captured and in use? These are both well stronger than any of the RPG line.

@HatrXx78 yeah but how many of you can pick up and use a javlin? this isn't a video game you can't just pick up a high tec piece like a Javlin and point and click. better off using the rocket in an IED than wasting it trying to use it. AT4s and SMAWs are a different story they are a fire and forget rocket no complicated electronics or guidance systems there.

@jdwohlers I'll let you in on a secret. The military makes weapons simple intentionally....knowing that Pvt. Jones from Wheatfield USA struggled to get out of high school. Especially infantry weapons which are designed to be used with very basic instruction. The designers of the javelin made it very similar to a video game for this reason... after all, just about every kid uses an Xbox.

Now you can learn how I'm not saying it is impossible but you can't do it with out some actual instruction. And not just a you do this this and this now go fight tanks. No the militia isn't going to win in a head to head fight against armor don't try. If America is a war against the NWO or whatever here is my advice. Interdict the fuel supplies and starve them out. Tanks use massive amounts of fuel. Capture enemy anti-tank equiptment and use it against them. There is nothing the Militia has that can even put a dent in modern armor. Break your units up into small three man teams you can do a lot of damage that way but they can't get very many of you.

The current U.S. armoured fighting brigade is heavily dependent on a constant supply of jet fuel to run the turbine engines in the M1 Abrams, this supply line is the weak link of U.S. armour. Destroy the supply line and the tanks and other armour are rendered useless.

The Abrams can run on gasoline, diesel, kerosene, JP4 or JP8. The military uses JP8 due to the high power to weight ratio and ease of logistics. If need be, any fuel will work however. My father was a platoon leader for a tank company support platoon...and I have worked with the tanks a lot.

I was aware that some vehicles the military uses have this ability, but I was not aware that the Abrams had it. Thank you for the correction. However, I still stick to my assertion that the easiest link to break for an armored division is that of the supply train, since all vehicles (especially the Abrams) require massive amounts of fuel to keep running.

Absolutely man... I wasn't correcting, I was adding to your post from my experiences. In the event of facing armor, the best course is; terrain-tanks are very limited in direction of travel and pursuit, infantry-tanks are most vulnerable to infantry assault, supply-limit access to logistics and it's a 90 ton paperweight, mission duration-the crews need to take a break and are vulnerable outside.

In the unfortunate circumstance where fighting erupts here... you also have to count the numbers of defection within our own military and National Guard. I am confident in saying it is highly unlikely that we would not have Abrams on our side as well. Likely whole units would defect when ordered to subdue the people and bring their entire logistical support with them. I desire peace, but I am prepared for war.

No not saying that. Just that Guerrilla warfare tactics is all you got. Go after hardened targets and I promise you will lose. That requires a well supplied modern military force. If you're really worried about the U.S. military turning on you (I'm not) the US is a very large country. Plenty of ways to disrupt things and grind them down over a period of time. And you would have plenty of regular military assets on your side anyway. If not all.

The weapons you are showing are either unattainable or ineffective against U.S. tanks. We were shot at in my tank by small arms and it sounded like rocks were being thrown at us. A militia doesn't stand much of a chance against the U.S. tanks unless you know the secret information about them. Unfortunatly they only people that does are ex tankers and we cannot talk about it.
