  • I-I thought four in Japanese was "yon"...

  • @roxxypikachu365

Shi and yon are used for four, and to say seven you can use shichi and nana.

You are correct in thinking that yon is used preferentially - the same with nana.

The Japanese word "shi" also means death (but uses a different Kanji. Four: 四 and Death: 死). Usually that's fine, and you can use shi to count things, but sometimes this similarity can be a big problem! Like when counting people! So in that case you would use yon. (The same applies with seven because the SHIchi).

  • Ayumi Hamasaki said that on her "para para Trauma" too :] x]

  • Who want to learn Japanese with me online?

  • japanese capture and torture ordinary fishermen near senkaku islands, since the petroleum was discovered in the nearby islands. Japanese politicians always want to occupy the islands which is China's territory since 500 years ago.

Japanese kills whales and do not protect the near bio-diversity. This caused thousands of whales dies and become Japaneses' food to make sushi, causing the whale population in the pacifics has decreased significantly.

    Support, free senkaku!

  • i thought this video was gonna be about students or something..cuz "Sei" is a preffix meaning Student.. ex. Koukou San Nen-Sei =

    3rd Year Highschool Student.....i was wrong :/

  • Sound like you've already got a pretty good handle on the words for students, anyway.

  • @forbiddenhill sei can mean sex(gender), to say, and 静(sei) kanji means quiet. There are MANY words that mean multiple things. Only way to know for sure is to listen to the content of the sentence

  • @forbiddenhill You hear it also before running a race.

  • @forbiddenhill i think u meant suffix? kinda confusing when i saw ur example

  • so in a japanesse mortal kombat the hing would be ''sei no! FIGHT''

  • I wondered about this the other day. I didn't expect to find a video about it! Thank you!

  • "say no" is included in this video to let English speakers know how to pronounce 'sei'. Thank you.

  • kimi wa hentai da yo!! =P

  • atashi no namae wa Rain desu. douzo yoroshiku. Nihongo no benkyou wa nanji kara desu ka? Arigatou de video wa mimasahita.

  • Douzo Yorosiku is not a very natural sounding phrase. Also if you want to thank someone in that way, bideo wo mite kurete arigatou.

"Nihongo no benkyou ha nanji kara desu ka?"

    This doesn't make much sense

dono kurai nihongo wo benkyou site imasu ka?

  • ...you mean: Dono gurai nihongo wo benkyoushite imasu ka? right :P

  • No I don't.

Gurai and Kurai are interchangeable, like goro and koro.

    Nice try though

  • Even if they are "site" is still an unknown word for me, XD *trying a comeback* xD

  • A..sorry for my mean response. Today's not so great. So I apologize.

site=shite, it's a popular way to roman-ize things by young Japanese teens.
