  • @Bleepmap o rly? srsly? You mean you can do all that? I thought the computers could only do email and The Google and play solitaire. Why didn't you tell me this a long time ago? ;) (srsly, thx for the comment!)

  • @Bleepmap infinite times less skill required to use. a lot more crap is made

  • @MultiAnonymousdude yeah, indeed. Pretty much a shame.

  • Two words, "wire management".

  • Haha. omg. I so want this!. I have no others words to explain myself. I just want it.

  • I'll admit that about a dozen of your recent views have been me checking in to see what the soaring view count is up to!

  • If you had to lose all of your modules exept for 4 of them, which ones would you pick?

  • @keoni29 Hmmmm... I'll have to think about that.

  • @sduck409 I'd pick at least these things: Sequencer, VCO, EG, VCA :P

  • че это за хрень?

  • BOMBWOBWOBWOBWOB is all that's needed.

  • HOW DOES ONE MANAGE THIS

  • Weird hobby!!!

  • i think i found the hipsters

  • Sounds like some 1950's aliens have landed.

  • Plug&play! o0

  • Good NEWS Reason 6 Is Here.

  • Whew that's one complicated....machine? can't you do all that with a software, maybe get even better resuts? and all you'd need a lowend pc >_>

  • @WooblyBoobly Doesnt need a pc at all for this. Some people prefer an actual hands on approach (right down to building what youre going to making music with). Digital isnt always better.

  • @WooblyBoobly Of course you could do all this in software. To do exactly what I'm doing here when I filmed this 2 years ago would have involved some sequencing software that hadn't been written yet, although it could have been emulated easily enough using max. But that's not really the point - while I know and use software synths, and have since the early 90's, I've used modular synths since the mid-70's, and feel comfortable using them. They can do stuff software can't do, and vice versa.

  • @sduck409 Apart from anything, software just doesn't look that good!

  • I need one of them things for my weeding ceremony!!!

  • Gooood!!

  • Beautiful synth! Mostly MOTM?

  • @mootbooxle Hi - yes, it's all motm format, although currently I own 29 Synthesis Technology modules, which is less than half of my modules. There were a few less back when I made this video.

  • Commander Geordi La Forge to sequencer deck immidiately. An alien life form is trying to communicate with us through cool, spaced out cyber music. Quickly, turn on the machine that goes beep beep boop. Translating... The aliens have left us a message. They are saying: Thumbs up!

  • need to find this one!

  • where can i download this machine?

  • Damn!!! I'm frightening right now!! If i had one of those, i'd never know where to start!

  • Congratulations!

I hope someday to build one myself!

  • I have boner now!

  • I'd like to see you move it somewhere and plug it up all over again. Let me know how long it takes! :D

  • I want one like that or I piss everywhere !

  • oommffgg.great!!i Like this!!!!!

  • Liveca10 plays with 5U. Sounds good. @blwvideo:my google-fu says he is Autechre.

  • sduck rulez!!!!!!!!!! :hail:

  • I have wiggled this duck's muff and it was good. Now sell some of that Haiblefish you have sitting around!

  • I'm just picturing Aphex Twin holed up in a small room with this thing, and a week's worth of acid and canned food.

  • @PRC1972 Don't be daft. Sduck409 *is* the Aphex Twin guy. Look it up on the Internetz.

  • This man is genious...because he can use this..I don't understand nothing but is so cool :D

  • amazing!

  • :DDDDDDDDDD

    XDDDDDDD

    this is sooooooooo awesome!!!

  • Stunning, fantastic!! Such a cerebral sound,I found it to be very soothing, thank you very much!

  • The word "patch" makes so much more sense when you see this.

  • Absolutely wonderful. I am glad someone is keeping these pieces of equipment in good condition. No matter how good a producers PC based studio and digital sound creation and formation studio is. There are just certain sounds and constructs that cannot be emulated, copied or faked. Make some more videos and keep that musical piece of analog machinery running.

  • reminds me a lot to Dexter's Lab

  • Woah! Thanks.

  • What the SHIT is that equipment!!!!!

  • beautiful sounds

  • I would just get my hands tangled in all those cables though. Sick synth!!

  • OMG.. This thing is a monster

  • beam me up scotty

  • no link...just surfing....this music makes me happy thank you.

  • this is fucking ace...

  • wow, impressive..though i think ill stick to reason 6 for my synths :)

  • am im the only one, or is one of those sounds identical to the sounds in "deadmau5 - strobe"?

  • @siperdellyeer no man Deadmau5 is using Moog Voyagers and things like that. Also a lot of software sytnhesys. This is an perfectly useless piece of equipment! Get a Clavia Nord Lead at least!

  • @Samyaza69 How the hell do you consider this useless?

  • @EnCrypticon23x because you can get better synths outside if you are really into music production. Between 2000-4000 Dollars and you are in the game!

  • @Samyaza69 wtf does the type of synthesizer to do with the sounds they can make? im pretty sure that this thing makes the same pure saw wave sound as most other synthezisers, including the stuff deadmau5 uses

  • Useless? Not at all! So sorry, you are mistaken. The point of a real modular is about the experience a person has using it. Trust me. Charles Revson (founder of MEGA conglomerate Revlon cosmetics) said, "in the factory I make cosmetics, in the store, I sell hope". It's the difference between a product and a commodity. Business 101.

Another point to ponder: 12 years ago, there were only 3 (or so) companies left making these. Now, there are over thirty. Why would think that might be?

  • Makes my lp look like a kazoo.

  • I could listen to this for hours. Gorgeous sounds from a beautiful machine!

  • I really enjoyed this - and it's good to know that you play as well as you build.

  • This and Garage Band, clash of civilisations. I like your sounds, really happy to have found your video.

  • I've noticed an upsurge of comments on this video in the last few days - did this vid get posted on a blog or something somewhere? If so, let me know where it is - no direct links because youtube doesn't allow that in their comments, sorry.

  • @sduck409 If you click "show video statistics" next to the view count you can see a timeline with referrals from other videos or websites

    thanks for the video

particularly like how you fade down to the triangle wave around 08:24

  • @sduck409 The movie "Drive"(s) sountrack

  • @sduck409 maybe because it's getting closer to newyears and you mention new years in te description? I don't know all I know is I need a napkin to wipe up this drool now... thanks!

  • @sduck409 if you click on the graph button to the right of your view counter you can see what has caused the surge. its just related videos by the way.

  • @sduck409 Facebook!

  • Do you have a site describing the synth and it's modules? Love to read about it. Cool vid. thanks.

  • @splifford Not yet - it's something I've been planning to work on eventually.

  • Lovely. And I love how you end it. I spent countless hours with an EML101 back in the 70's. It didn't have a sequencer, but by using the Sample-and-Hold feature I could get very similar effects, especially the steady beat with changes. I'm glad to see that people are still into analog sound production.

    --F Brep

  • thanks

  • What a beautiful sound, I don't know what else to say, love it!

  • TMC=Too many cables

  • so sick!

  • Is that a music instrument or a nasa console? Its pretty big and complex. Some sort of Moog Modular synth? Awesome anyways.

  • @RaykoDrg As mentioned (briefly) in the description, it's a modular synthesizer, similar to the old moogs, except in this case it's all modules that I've built myself. Some I designed myself, but many are from kits provided by Synth Tech, Blacet and a few others.

  • @sduck409

by 'designed my self' what do you mean? you built them completely from scratch or you pieced it together by breaking up other modules or old synths?

is there a website or guide type thing you would recommend for an electronics novice that would want to start a project like this albeit on a much smaller scale as something as large as this would be impossible for a beginner.

  • @BackToNature79 To clarify - it's not all stuff I designed, but rather stuff I assembled. None of the electronic designs are mine, although some of the front panels are. I got started building kits, where all the parts were supplied, and it was just a matter of soldering the components onto a pcb (printed circuit board), and attaching that the the front panel components. I started out with kits from Synthesis Technology (who no longer sell kits) and Blacet (which still sells kits).

  • @BackToNature79 Since about 2005 I've just been buying the pcb's from various sources, and gathering up the parts from Mouser, Digikey and wherever, designing my own front panels which are made by Front Panel Express, and putting it all together. Although this has gotten quite large over the years, it's all approached on a module by module basis - not really a big project in the grand scheme of things.

  • @BackToNature79 Sources for info - there are 2 good forums for info - electro-music, and muffwiggler. (<< you'll need to add the standard web designations to get these to work - youtube doesn't like linky things in their comments.) Also, you don't have to build your own - there are lots of manufacturers of modular equipment now, in several different formats - most people buy the stuff assembled.

  • geneuzel

  • Great choice of sounds! ~ Works nice together.

  • it looks and functions like a buchla from what i can see possibly a clone

  • this on acid and you go visit other planets talking with aliens about the weather there...

  • Sounds very Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind.. which I know was an ARP but this is very much like it. Great bassline throbbing underneath. Good stuff!

  • wow i love this setup! it sounds wonderful !

  • Beautiful!

  • What's this??!!

    I've never seen before.

    Thanks posting.

  • @kaizokuhousou It is a modular synthesizer! :-) This one is in the MOTM format designed by Synth Tech. It is very similar in design to the Moog modular synthesizers built by Bob Moog and company in the 60's and 70's although these newer versions have more stable tuning and other improvements. Do a Google search on 'motm synthesizer' and also 'modular synthesizers' to get started. And, shameless self promotion, check out my YouTube channel too! ;-)

  • Very nice! :-)

  • Nice homemade sequencer on the right.

  • mmmmm.........hypnotic....
