I live in the US, and with the H6 engine I wouldn't know if its best, to have it modified in a wagon body form. But I notice that the Outback also comes in a sedan form as well with the H6 engine the 02 model would be the EZ30 engine but not the EZ30R. The 6 speed swap sounds promising, since parts are possible to be found at Ebay.
The choice is yours in accordance to your circumstances and discretion. But, my advice still remains that if you make the initial investment in a car with all of the above as stock you stand to make a substantial financial saving in the long run. Best of luck. Lemme know how you go
That's an awesome car. I have a legacy in possession. But I was wondering if its best to get an engine swap in the legacy. Or get a stock 02 H6 outback, change the ecu to an aftermarket one (because of the security limitations), and get a manual transmission afterwards with a transmission ECU. Comments would be appreciated
I'm assuming thats a rhetorical question... But, just in case it isn't; buying a vehicle with all of the above as stock features would be far far cheaper than sourcing the parts in question and swapping them into another car. I recommend a Legacy Spec B with the H6 engine mated to the bomb proof 6speed manual STI transmission all stock from the factory - they do exist! The Outback is a large wallowy car not built to handle this kind of power (350+Kw at the wheels in this project).
I have a 2006 Legacy Gt tuned to 184 kw at the wheels and that feels pretty quick,so 250kw at the wheels would be pretty amazing, and of course the torque!
I also have a 2003 E46 M3 and its reasonably quick standard, but you really have to ring it out above 4000rpm to get it moving.
I know what you mean about the M3 engine only too well, I drove one for a little while, I felt like a hooligan al day long. But that Msport straight six set the benchmark for other sports straight 6s and V6s. Besides couldn't justify driving below 4000rpm given the way it sounds past that - hardly ever used the stereo - just as I have no idea what people are talking about when they ask me what the McIntosh sound system sounds like in my STI. Do you loose any traction when you wind your turbo up?
Hey there,I had to laugh with your comment about the stereos, because i rarely use them on either of my cars as well!
The four wheel drive system on the Legacy does a good job of keeping wheelspin in check, it usually just grips and goes, although sometimes i hit boost in first and there is a bit of wheelspin but not much.
It should be more of a factor with the power levels you want to achieve.
In the rain I get all four wheels spinning at 2800rpm. I have to really feather the throttle to get any sort of decent start off the line in the wet. In the dry though, its unbeatable. We are now prodcing over 300Kw ATW with stock internals and 10Psi. We are currently working on engineering the internals of a 3.6L engine with the aim to use upto 21Psi.
man i just sold my 3.0R and i am geting a 09 3.0R Spec.B or a 08 WRX so i am wondring can you provide me or uplode a 0-160 Kh/h so i can know what Perfomance diffrences i will get sins Wrx here is with no warnty and H6 is with
Well mine is modified to outrun a BMW E46 M3 and embarrass a stock E92 M3 (that should give you a rough idea of the 0-160Km/h). Its dressed as a H6 STI while maintaining its modesty and with only low pressure turbo tuning it'll pump out 250Kw at the wheels. Comparing it to a WRX didn't even cross my mind and frankly in my opinion they are worlds apart. With the 3.0R you are getting a far superior discerning driving experience.
and when you open up that Porsche valve gearing with a good exhaust system and subtle turbo whine the sound is sooooo exotic its intoxicating (new video coming soon) - It'll bring a smile to your face every day. So the choice is yours... PS type in Perrin H6 into Google for some good videos of a turbo 3.0 H6
Oh yeah some expert advice - only use STI springs - do not lower your car with other after market springs - it totally screws up the ride and handling of this chasis - we've tried with a couple of our other cars.
Sure specs outlined as above reply to 'Integra92red'. Mine is 3.0R spec B with genuine STI parts tuned up by Subaru experts including ECU upgrades and programing plus exhaust work plus ongoing suspension settings tweaking mainly for road use in Australia and some track testing. Braking is also uprated with ventilated ceramic disc brakes system. Avoided the Brembo system - over-priced and its prone squeaks!!
Yepp well spotted, so it shoud it is basically a porsche configuration engine as per most subaru engines (aircraft and car) they are horizontally opposed. This latest rendition has heads designed and built by Porsche. So yeah thats why it sound that way. Part two coming soon with the mid pipes modified still street legal but sounds much louder and incredibly exotic...
Great noise!

Hey, good to hear from you again, sounds like things are going great with your Legacy, This is a excellent project with excellent results.
300kw at the wheels at 10psi is very nice!
Keep up the good work and it would be cool to see more vids of the car in action!

are you from australia?
roader2000 3 years ago
Why do you ask?
DeMobBoss 3 years ago
because I'm from Saudi Arabia and we are sharing almost the same spec of the Subaru not like in the US.
I have a 07 3.0R and I made some changes which include spec B front bumber, rear lip spoiler, mud splash and others to suspension and exhaust system.
the only source for the performance parts which will fit into my car is ether Australia or japan.
I just want you to share the information with me if you don't mind

What exactly is the model of this Legacy?
integra92red 3 years ago
It is a 3.0RB with genuine STI tuning mods plus a little extra help from some Subaru tune up experts,
Including engine, chasis, suspension and braking.
