Such a sad ending. My thoughts are that he drank the potion and all those notes kept talking about how everyone who took it started seeing visions. So the entire time he is in his own mind and the only way to escape is to die. Who knows others might have other thoughts.

I watched the mechanics of the iron maiden on a history of torture machines that popped up on the history channel about a year ago. Spikes where not randomly placed! They were made to pierce places like your eyes, liver, kidneys, throat and your *ahem* groin among other things! What a slow and painful way to off yourself!
