  • It's just a good song, I love it, fuck Hitler hahahahahaaahahhaha asshole

  • To the dumb asses who go on about Hitler.

Ron was referencing Silent Comedy, specifically the adversaries of Chaplin, Keaton and Harold Lloyd, who often looked like this. Ron never spoke on stage. He never even opened his mouth. Like a silent film comedian he communicated with his expressions. Hitler was a frothing at the mouth, madly gesticulating loon.

And another thing: Sparks weren't GLAM. Russ didn't wear a speck of make up, and the songs are aggressively heterosexual:

  • keyboardist has ten times the charisma of singer, with a tenth of the effort

  • red alert red alert we got a nazi keyboarder red alert red alert arrest that bitch

  • The Hitlerian guy can seduce just with the look in his eyes!

  • I miss the days when folks werent too proud to lipsyc...any news on the Mael; boys touring?

  • foxy shazam also?

  • Coolest duo ever!

  • ron and russel forever best

  • LOL reminds me of the Mighty Boosh, I can see Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding impersonating them....great song though

  • haha this is great!

  • i always wonder why suede never covered this. it seems perfect for brett anderson back in the 90s.

  • the hitler thing is very old dudes. sparks fuckin ROCK.

  • Comment removed

  • It`s Charles Chaplin.

  • Thank You! For this excellent song! I love it! Sparks roules for ever!

  • This is a brilliant song and the man reminded me of hitler lol never smiled i thought the whole band great love Shirlsxx

  • Oh, how I LOVE SPARKS! This is one of their best performance-art pieces. They have always been so strong with their originality, and admirably fearless in pushing the artistic barrier, unlike others at that time who were afraid to go 'out of bounds.' (Not counting Bowie, of course.) They paid a price for not going mainstream, but are now finally recieving recognition and respect from new fans and new bands. This is such a cool song.

  • the 8 hundred other things I want on there.lol

    Thank you SPARKS!!

    How ingenious you be.

  • These guys wrote my most favorite words..and I saw it once written on a wall when

I was very young and it said anon...it took years to find out who wrote them

I never forgot them..and every *poet * I know loves them dearly.

*If this were the Seine. . we'd all be very suave...But it's just the rain. . washing down the boulevard*

    Oh BIG sigh!!

I think I'll put that on my tombstone.....instead of

  • It's not a womans voice.

Is that explaination enough for you?

  • Great song. I remember Sparks being one of the first groups i saw on MTV back when MTV was only seen if you paid for it. Adam and the Ants also.

  • I can't get enough of Kimono my House...

  • Der Fuhrer spielt ein Fender Rhodes!

  • Fender Jazz bass with Rickenbackersound.

  • wath a lovely times , the 70's

  • love it!!! it is the sex!!

  • Does anyone remember when they were in the movie Rollercoaster singing Big Boy?

  • yes, i saw that in the cinema :D

  • lol lol lol he looks like he is crossed between blakey from on the buses and mine fuherer ze hitler

  • THe hitler thing is too much LMAO!

  • Was thinkng Chaplin Lol ! Said the 'tache was too much of a distraction , and went pencil thin .. Poor guy got drivin out of his orignality ! C'est La Vie .

  • Well, ... I was a glamrockman in tose days, but i did regonice this....as you can quess,..this was not my favorite, but i remember....this wasn`t bad...not at all.....:) by my opinion...good and thanks...thanks:)

  • So when is this song going to be in Rock Band?

  • lying ..DOMESTIC FLYING ...

  • 1.53 hahahaha he loses the head of the microphone and clowns around looking at it...so funny...great great tune...

  • Weird & fantastic.

  • good song

  • Dinky!!!!

  • Aysley Dunbar

  • Also a young Jeff Beck with a twist of Marc Bolan in him. Really an adorable guy..................

  • thise song was used in a car ad a few years ago

  • Is it just me or does the guy on keyboards look ever so slightly like the kid who played T-Bag in T-Bag and The Witch?

  • anyone seen this on Greenwing lmfao? xx

  • *lol* Very funny Band. Ron Meal looks like Charly Chaplin.

  • MrPentium, what the hell are you talking about? The Mael brothers are absolutely not gay. Their may be some stage campness in some of their acts, especially in the early years, but that does not equate to being gay. Not that there is anything wrong with being gay, but the Mael brothers certainly are not. I've been a fan for more than 30 years.

  • He is what is called a economic animal.

  • Ron and Russell Mael. Brilliant performance!

  • Sadly the Maels dumb the British backing trio of Diamon, Fisher and Hampton (bass) as soon as they got big. They were never as good or even close. DUMB move. Ian Hampton did all the muical arrangements. The last Adrian Fisher was an incredible guitarists.

  • Franzko787, you're talking a load of crap. Your comments are "dumb", The Mael brothers have always done all the musical arrangements: they are SPARKS.

  • I think Paul McCartney made an impersionation of Ron Mael in his "Coming Up" video.

  • I saw that too. Weird huh?

  • Yeah, he said so, in the commentary on the McCartney Years

  • The Fender jazz sounds Rickenbacker alike. Compare with Deep Purple.

  • Ostia el keyboards es Josè Maria Aznar

    ex-Spanish President.

    jajajajajajaj

  • the guy on keybpoards, thats the same facial expression I use when chatting girls up. trust me it works, try it haha

  • WFT guys, I'm just laughin my ass off, Russel Mael has a crackin FACE !!!! :D

  • 1:52. :) Cutest ever.

  • i just asked the keyboardist to be my Godfather.

  • He is not Hitler. This music it's Glam Rock.

  • Agree, it`s more Chaplin alike.

  • Hitler on keyboards!!! COOL!!

  • its Hitlers son not Hitler, influences forthis song include bunker life and its pitfalls, Berlin, 1945 holiday destination of the year and much more

  • He's not even related to hitler, he's from california....

  • Ha ha, very good.

  • Adolf Hitler + Jim Morrison = un duo génial

  • lijflied voor Wilders ;))

  • Such a brilliant song.

  • is that Tony Blair on keyboard?

  • rofl!

  • [;-)

  • LOL- Fretslayer, ever since i saw this in the 70's i knew Hitler was still alive but he looks good for his years. as for the sound, well listen to other stuff from the period and you will see where a lot of metal bands took their queues from :-)

  • Holy Hell!

I'm full on Metal but at least I now know where 'Queen' got their sound!

And as for Hitler on the keyboards...

Y'all didn't think he really killed himself, did ya?

    No!

    He joined a rock band!

    \m/

  • great tune! this is for info only

    look up (queen- liar)

you will see queen style fully formed by 1973

  • Don't be so serious. It's only Rock & Roll.

I remember when Queen was still a 'new band' and were just breaking into the U.S music market - DJs thought they were black because of the amount of groove the had. Funny stuff.

  • Sparks and Queen played the Marquee end 1972 and saw each others acts. There was certainly an influence (there is a vid of Sparks on Youtube from this time). At the time, Ron Mael reckoned Queen were going nowhere and asked Brian May to join Sparks (how wrong he was...)

  • @n0nym0

They certainly competed. BTW compare Tearing the place apart (Sparks) and my melancholy Blues(Queen).

Pretty similar, although both are non mainstream.

  • the singer must have had his balled whacked somewhat before the performance!! lol

  • is the bloke on keybord Hitlers son?

  • he makes the band dont you think big japanese eyes like mine :P

  • the keyboardist is SERIOUS BUSINESS

    i love this!

  • Excellent Stuff !

  • Alike Klaus Nomi, Sparks were so wonderfully A-TYPICAL!

  • dude on the keyboard is cool nice big eyes bed room eyes :o) is he still alive ?

  • I have just found this after searching for " can't believe that you would fall for all the crap in this song" that they performed on Jonathan Ross. The singer seems to have aged well and was very good looking as he was here. I remember my dad used to play this and enjoyed it as a kid. But i do prefer the aforementioned song.

  • And it ain't me who's gonna leave.

  • odd

  • he has to be the coolist bloke ever

  • awesome

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, we have the Dramatic Chipmunk on Keyboard! 0:33.

  • LMAO!

  • What is the name of the song?

  • This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us, from the Kimono My House album.

  • Those opening chords are spine tingling.

  • FANTASTIC SONG BRILLIANT GROUP

  • Probably the greatest song of all times.

  • agree . this is just good like Bach.

  • blakey's lost brother on the buses:)

  • It's fantastic.. brings me right back and it's a brilliant song. Glad I was around to enjoy that time.

  • the guy with the hitler mustache always freaked me out.he has some wild expressions

  • Time to educate someone on Ron Mael! Ron's mustache was inspired by Charlie Chaplin, and some of Ron's mannerisms onstage remind me of the silent film star. The "toothbrush mustache" had nothing to do with Hitler at all. Sadly, because too many people kept making the same association, Ron changed the style of his 'stache by the late 80s.

  • 1:34 - 1:38 hahahaha :)

  • so bloody cool..and individual

  • Oh my god, this has just brought back so many memories. My Dad sadly passed in 2005, but he had a tache' and slightly gaunt cheeks like Ron and we always used to say it was him haha. Used to drive him crazy. Oh god, getting a little bit emotional but enjoying this video a lot. And actually, it's a pretty good song...

  • I hear they're nominated to the rock hall of fame next year...Well, give it to 'em...Sparks invented Alto rock...period

  • One of the all time weirdest songs ever recorded...Long live the Mael Bros

  • vin deisel on helium lol

  • Wow, just saw them on Ross tonight, Ron has hardly changed. Still great, and not too serious.

  • lol yeah same.. I was wondering if the weird looking bloke was actually going to do anything...

  • we need more sparks

  • that eye movement(apparently accidental)made this band so memorable for those of us of a certain age - ( the keyboard player who looks like hitler) fame

  • the keyboard player looks just like rob brydon

  • or hitler XDXDXDXDXD

  • Could listen to that all day..and who needs a pretentious video when Ron's about?

Puts many 'contemporaries' in their place.

  • one of the best ever........! their first album are awsome, look for your self.

  • Great stuff, best band on the planet (Jona than Ross`s words, not mine)

  • terrifying

  • here wtf, I didn't know Hitler was in a band.

  • I loved Steve Wright's commentary when TOTP2 first aired this. Regarding the keyboard player, he just kept staying "look, he's not right"!!!!

  • They're the business. I'm going to see them live (again!) on Saturday night. Yes, we Brits always appreciated them even if Ron and Russell's fellow Americans didn't (and still don't). There's simply no-one like them.

  • This band used to creep me out as a kid. I used to wonder what was Adolf Hitler doing in a rock band. They still creep me out.

  • LOL! amen.

  • I first got introduce to these guys through an album of theirs tittled Angst in My Pants ( their most recent at the time ) and then I went back and heard their older stuff like this, or as much of it as I could anyway, alot of their earlier albums were out of print. So these guys were more popular in England though? Well they've always been a very well-kept secret over here, let me tell you.

  • They rock.

  • Adolf Hitler on keyboard! :-)

  • MAD AND GREAT!!!!!

  • geniuses

  • sharon is that you ????

  • I love Paul McCartney's impersonation of the guy on the keyboard in his Coming Up video. Ed

  • Where can I find Mccartney's impression of him? cheers

  • I remember seeing this on t.V. as a kid.

Great band, especially the mid seventies era (this).

Thanks for enabling a trip down memory lane!

  • LOVE IT!!!!!!

  • aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh their going to be jonathon ross not this friday but next!!!!!

  • hitler on synth lol

  • This is the ultimate Sparks song! Great campy Rocker!

  • It's Ron Mael, he's the songwrter and keyboardist and one of the frontman of the band. He scared me as a kid because he looks like Hitler.

  • McCartney's impersonation of him is hilarious. Ed

  • I wonder if they were an influence on the Dresden Dolls. They have some crazy changes and stops.

  • Only understood the structure of the lyrics a couple of weeks ago.The song is about a guy who is shy of talking to girls. The first two lines of each verse are him telling himself to be calm. The 'heartbeat, increasing heartbeat' lines in the second part are him describing his nervous system going into spasms.Utter genius

  • This has been in my head today.

He looks like Yes' Chris Squire, they sound like Bach or Handl.

The song gets more and more aggressive as it goes on...

  • Shoppingmall4life, I'm pretty old! god, I used to love Sparks and have got Kimono My House somewhere in my house. Haven't listened for years, plus of course, it's on vinyl and I don't have a record deck. One song I used to love on it was "Equator" which was mad, but brilliant.

  • I l o v e t h e m...

    *SPARKS*-the Vanguard of many Music/ians/styles...

  • i remember when i first heard of Sparks in 1974...absolutely different and absolutely thrilling. The arrangments of lyrics and instruments are complex and absolutely astonishing. They were ahead of their time!

  • What country?

    Germany? Austria? Switzerland? Leichtenstein?

    Danke...

  • Wonder what they are upto now?

  • They've recently released their 21st studio album, the brilliant "Exotic Creatures of the Deep" which they showcased last year by playing all 21 albums consequetively during a London residency. On March 23rd they release a new single, "Lighten up, Morrissey" / I Can't Believe That You Would Fall For all the Crap in This Song", which they will perform on Jonathan Ross. They will also be playing two gigs at London's Forum on 20th and 21st March . So not much really!!!

  • Thanks for passing that info along - a new single called Lighten Up Morrisey - just the title itself, and knowing it's Sparks, makes me laugh.

They were such a breath of fresh air in the seventies. My take on the period between, oh maybe 1973 to 1977, was that all the best bands were on the periphery - Sparks made it on the Don Kirshner show (that's how I heard em the first time), but very little airplay in west central ohio.

  • Adrian Fischer!

  • fukin class!!!!!

  • i Just want to laugh at this and they are not f**ing retard you bloddy upset me ,birdtooth so leave them alone ok. becasue i like them and they are very bloody funny OK!

  • 1:52. Hahahah. :)

    Russell is adorable. :D

  • can't believe i've not got these guy's back catalogue already. i remember hearing stuff over the years, but i never took the bait and started buying... numpty! now i'm playing catch-up and hope to have it all soon. great band. genius!

  • i am turning into a major sparks fan. their new lp 'exotic creatures of the deep' is excellent.

  • Brilliant!!!

  • I liked the group the brothers were so funny man esp the Ron's expressions.

  • another hitler comment how original yawn.r.i.p dinky.

  • Tis net Wiel van Bom oet Altwieert.

  • Fucking Brilliant !!!!!!!

  • the keyboard player is ron mael.....heil ron....

  • Who is the Adolf Hitler lookalike on keyboards? He use to scare me as a kid watching this video and he still gives me the willies even though I am over 40 now. Looks real out of place here and can't help but think his mind is wandering to the happier days of 1941 while playing......

  • hahaha, what a nice comment :-)

  • YOU ARE A FUCKING RETARD.

  • It's Charlie Chaplin, not Adolf Hitler for heaven's sake !

  • Amazing!

  • Love the Mael bros. How many guys in the '70s were willing to wear the Hitler moustache? ...Just Ron, I think.

  • I think he looks more like Charly Chaplin.

BTW, all the dudes in the days of Chaplin and hitler had moustaches like that.

    Look it up.

    Great fucking music.

  • Yeah but this is 30 years later! Great song

  • We need music like this again.
