I am currently a registered Democrat and my parents are long time Democrats in the tradition of Truman and Kennedy. But, let's face it the Democrat party can lay claim to being the proponents of slavery and segregation from 1820 to 1960. The Klu Klux Klan in the 1800's went after Blacks and Republicans both. No one in my family is remotely racist, but even today who is it that continually points out that America is made up of different races? Yes, liberal Democrats.
