  • @lavieperdu I had to google this, I didn't know she had a son! I found this very hard to believe tbh..

  • @Bruuutal1 Nico's son Ari from her involvement with actor/icon Alain Delon. It pains me to state that his mother introduced him (her son) to heroin. So you can draw your own conclusion from there.

  • 1:53 Most guys don't do anything for me.Doesn't John Cale look incredibly hot here, though? Lou Reed was really cute too.Maybe it's just the music speaking through them, but their songs spoke for themselves.

  • I love it, but my friend doesn't... I don't mind it, I think she doesn't have any taste in music. This is a masterpiece.

  • Strike dear mistress and cure his heart.

  • something dark ages about this song, like a medieval procession or something

  • @snarkey5 Has to do with the chord structure. It is using 5ths I believe, 5ths where seen as holy chords in medieval times and are most prevalent in their music.

  • @TheDeadEyeX that's interesting, knowing that, it adds a different dimension to the song. i think it makes it darker.

  • Snorting some strong narcotic opiates....leaning back and listening to THIS! Pure ecstasy. Pure euphoria. Such a great song....no, great is an understatement.

  • please play it on my funeral

  • Arto wake up ,let's go skate man !!!

  • @ggdolls123 some kind of New Yorkese

  • The last million views were probably from me.

  • Thanks :)

  • is this song about S&M?

  • @zedhead1635 Yes, it is. Venus in Furs (German: Venus im Pelz) is a novella by Austrian author Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, the best known of his works. (Wikipedia)

    Masoch --> Masochism.

  • @zedhead1635

    Yes.

  • Tongue of thongs, the belt that does await you, Strike dear mistress, and cure his heart. Severin, Severin, speak so slightly, Severin, down on your bended knee; Taste the whip in love not given lightly, taste the whip now plllleeeeeaaadd for me! *Yum.* Lou Reed was one delicious, poetic, dark, talented hunk of man. <3

  • I thought Ozzy Osbourne was the "Prince of Darkness."

  • Even after all these years, this song still sounds wonderfully deviant and subversive.

  • @smallfox2 I could'nt say better

  • @smallfox2 trying to be to deep my brother.

  • @smallfox2 I know right! So ahead of its time

  • @oaklandrmoss18 On a timeline of its own, I think. I don't know of anything else like it. Yeah, and STILL ahead, musically :)

  • I cant get this song outta my head, i am changing as a result!I don't think my 360 can save me!

  • Thumbs up if ponies.

  • A lot more lyrical depth than "I am the table" anyway. Great song. Great album for that matter.

  • Nowww bleeeeeeeeeeeed forrr meeeeeeeee *snicker*

  • solo imaginen por un momento, un concierto privado de Velvet Underground en la decada de los 60's... Andy Warhol sentado, y muchas chicas A go go bailando semi desnudas... Jim Morrison, Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin.... todos reunidos, que chimba

  • MARIJUANA ROCKS!

  • @ahvipea3 Velvet Underground is more about the other type of dope...

  • @Rageagainsttm1 Well... then LSD ROCKS! :D

  • Religious experience? I just like the song and the connection to a story I like. Funny how folk need to make so much of a deal about everything despite it being a very good song.

  • This song creeps me out! Being well...that I'm a male Severin and all. I hope no girl I ever meet hears this song or reads the book! I'm getting shivers just thinking about it!

  • @TheTimetohavefun You cannot see a time where men and women get on until both are treated as equals? Why would women have a problem with this? Or do you have a different view of the character from me?

  • I clicked the like button before it had finished buffering

  • 1:53 someone's on heroin

  • the first 2 seconds of the video are epic as fuck

  • I AMM THE TABLE

  • Title from the book by Sacher-Masoch, "Venus In Furs", detailing certain types of sexual "deviation" (as in from the norm, not a judgement), such as S & M, and other bondage-related fetishes. This is believed to be the first time a rock song dealt with this subject matter. Very revolutionary. Today it's all over HBO and Cinemax, but then......

  • é sobre sadomasoquismo?

    realmente... psicodélico esse som.

  • Comment removed

  • Profoundly nihilistic, bold and WEIRD. in 1967. Lou Reed & Velvets released this 44 years ago, ideas from Legacy of Cain novella 1870. Wiki it. Scary anti-commercial. Nihilism, revolutionary-when "shock-rock" could actually raise eyebrows. I'm not sure our consumerist society has enough freedom anymore to even fathom a reference point to that time. Navarro's cover is CONTENT: drum machine, vocal tracks & banal midis -but I'm sure Mr. Reed enjoys royalties from Navarro's insipid cover.

  • @Danilo984R have you ever actually listened to hip hop

  • @hiphopapotamis25 I don't like hip hop. Hip Hop is not '' arte , poesia '' like the sound of the Velvet Underground. Hip Hop and the Velvet are two different worlds. I don't like the sound and the world of Hip Hop.

  • @Danilo984R have you ever listened to a tribe called quest, de la soul, pete rock and cl smooth, mos def, or talib kweli its extremely classy and speaks on current concerns or feelings that is extremely closely resembling the delivery of velvet underground although more up beat I think your thinking lil wayne and soulja boy is hip hop which they are far from

  • Comment removed

  • @Danilo984R Shut up, you don't know anything about rap.

  • Still doesnt work for me :(

  • in the desert... with this song?

    take a acid

  • this is the first time I listen to the lyrics(I'm dutch). it's funny

  • I'm high now. Mmmmmmmm!

  • This song is absolutely perfect.

  • @Laudanum000 yeah totally i think the ten thousand likes agree with you

  • @cheesealtar Just my opinion... =)

  • @Laudanum000 you listen to cradle of filth and are calling Velvet Underground overrated aahahahahahahaha

  • @veronicanoir First of all, have you heard Dave Navarro's cover of this song? It's a thousand times better. Second, yes, I like Cradle Of Filth. Their lyrics are pure poetry and they are much better musicians than this band. And Dani Filth can actually SING (he has an amazing vocal range) and not just talk like Lou Reed. I just can't understand for the life of me what's so special about this song. It's boring, repetitive and Lou Reed just can't sing.

  • @Laudanum000 That screaming stuff counts as singing?

  • @DaMusique3 Yes. Ever heard of something called non-melodic singing? Listen to Tom Waits' latest albums for example or Sainkho Namtchylak and you'll see what I mean. And Dani can do several very different textures, growls, shrieks and grunts. But he also sings clean, like in songs like "The Foetus Of A New Day Kicking". That's why he's renowned for his vocal range.

  • Excellent!

  • Who cares that he wrote 'Heroin,' some college night. The sleeping for a 1000 years turns up again here. Hmmm. Fantastic song.

  • musica de verdad escuchen nasty sex revolucion de emiliano zapata

  • FUCK METALLICA AND THEIR POSER FANS.

  • This song is probably my favorite song ever. I've probably given this song 5,000 views in the last two years, at least. This song never gets old, probably one of VU's best ever. Lou Reed and John Cale are geniuses.

  • Lou's got leather skin and whips for fingers to write a song as sexy as this.

  • Roses are Grey. Violets are Grey. I'm Colorblind. Fuck my Life.

  • @Hermunkle Roses are Grey. Violets are Grey? you might be a dog =)

  • @Hermunkle : lets fuck your wife ;-D

  • O_O

  • Devotchka's version of this song is way better.

  • I just love how people come on here, argue, forget the fact that what brought us all here was this RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE THAT I CALL VELVET UNDERGROUND and that being said, shhhhhhh, LOU IS PREACHING :)

  • @DethKubeK ahhhhh indeed, thank you <3

  • @DethKubeK Well put my friend...Well put.

  • Fabulous!

  • this song and smoke weed have god trip....WOW

  • I'm sorry, how the hell is this music "sinister"? Go listen to some black metal...

  • @DaveGrean This is more than genres ... this is ....

  • @DaveGrean sinister music does not need to belong to any genre, theres a song called the blood that moves the body is sinth pop but is sinister, also another called reptile, you dont need a genre to make your music the feelings you like, it has to be original thats all

  • This ain't rock, this ain't pop, this ain't avant-garde - this is the truth!!!

  • I am tired

    I am weary

I could sleep for a thousand years!

  • BRAVO!

  • since i discovered this, a week ago i keep listening over and over again, downloaded in my phone, and listen on the buss at work on the gym wherever

  • John Cale and Lou Reed are absolute fucking legends of music. This track is darkly melodic, haunting and disturbing.

  • this song is like eerie uncomfortable sex on a bad trip. its amazing

  • oh here is were tom petty stole!!!

  • Let's role another ;-)

  • Song loaded with pure darkness and psychotic rythms.. one of the best vvu

  • Think that guy meant loathing and he's wrong about that. Try reading the book with the same title by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch.

It's about love. Not conventional love, but love nonetheless.

  • @rogermcnally I think that guy meant loathing in the best possible way. It doesn't really matter what the lyrics say or what someone wrote about the song. What does matter (to me anyway) is the fullness of the sound and how that primary feeling comes across. And why can't love be loathsome?

    loathsome

  • @francoisdewitte

I guess love can be detrimental to physical or moral well-being sometimes - so that's fair enough. As is your visceral response to the music.

I've a weakness for pedantry like....had to make sure I slept that word right lol

  • @rogermcnally Well go ahead and sleep your words away!

    away

  • Dark und Gut. Uber allen Gipfeln!

  • why does every douchebag in the music industry like to include the Velvet Underground among their influences?

  • Strike Justin Bieber's ass.

  • Lots of things to love about this song (besides the obvious). Love the way he seems to be so intricately involved into the theme while singing it; like the way he chuckles at 3:18 while saying "plead for me". One quite certainly doesn't rehearse such stuff; pure genuineness. Wish there were more like this one.

  • My favorite Velvet Underground song. So dark.

  • could be an english public schools anthem.....

  • he's a very very very naughty boy.........

  • venus in furs is an absolute masterpiece of all times, the 2nd best of velvet's songs (only beacuse sister ray is one of the best 5 songs of all times, at the same level of beethoven's ninth). a sadomasochist poem that shows the moral decadence of the metropolis, a tormentous lament that blends psychedelia, oriental music and film noir.

  • @progreadicto Seriously, I love this song and I love The Velvet Underground, but why does everyone who likes a particular music always want to have it compared to Beethoven's 9th? Let's face it, we've been listening to music for the simple minded for the last 50 years, it touches us, it moves us, but it's totally retarded compared to what the great compositors wrote.

  • @PhilippeCa beethoven was a genius, but rock music also haves geniuses, i guess that sister ray is an absolutely masterpiece for a lot of reasons, a work of art at the same level of beethovens' ninth. obviously there's a very little works that can beat the powerfull and artistic merits of that piece, rock is also an art, there's a little of rock musicians that are truly artists, like frank zappa or the velvets or pink floyd, the doors, etc..

  • @PhilippeCa A compositor is somebody who sets the typing of a printing machine, like in the case of newspapers, for instance. You mean "composer", not "compositor". Anyway, an artist reflects the times in which he lives: if Ludwig Van Beethoven was around today he might be playing music not too different from that of The Velvet Underground. It's art & every age has its own. The work of someone like The Velvets' John Cale is in itself just as rich, elaborate, poignant and immortal as Beethoven's

  • Masterpiece which will cross the ages, something about the vocal phrasing and mixture of eastern and western sounds makes it feels like it's already been around for centuries, Funny to think this is one of their least rock'n'roll tracks and yet I'd bet it is the most popular one on youtube.

  • To all listeners of brilliant music all u need to di is buy a copy of the movie gift/jandes addiction and u wo't have any sex, drug and rock'nroll problems after that.I'm just pissed off that I sold it at my garage sale for $3 ,but word has it!!!!It is out on DVD after about 12 years.THis one is for those who can't sleep sometimes!Trust me,it's good, but my square partner won't permit me to watch it.When he's asleep I'llut the word out or someone let me know, thanks.

  • I knew this song was "beyond amazing" when I first heard it on the radio on WYND ("Surf Row Radio", Sarasota, Florida) Saturday midday "Underground" program way back in 1969. A psychedelic Masterpiece!

  • Sexual.

  • “El dolor posee para mí un encanto raro, y que nada enciende más mi pasión que la tiranía, la crueldad y, sobre todo, la infidelidad de una mujer hermosa”

  • the band that worked like a divine plague for me! The Song that haunted my life...it's too much actually. If I were to meet Jean Genie in person I'd ask him for one more posthumous Nico lp...thank god we still have Patti Smith and vague impressions of BOC ...left. Oh yes, ... and Swans are back. This is a cursed legacy that never stops. Hope my heart is fit for some 30 years more or something...the show must go...
