Winthrop Rockefeller did a lot for Arkansas like his brother Nelson. Had Nelson did not divorced his wife in 63 he may had been nominated for President in 64. I wondered if Nelson did not die in 79 and lived to see the 80 election where a divorced man named Reagan running and winning the nomination for President?

Rockefeller's a hard man to figure out. He equivocated more than Hamlet when it came to the Presidency, refusing to seek office until the worst possible moment. Nonetheless, it's a shame he didn't beat out Goldwater/Nixon for the GOP nomination in '64 and '68. He probably could have achieved Nixon's policies without the divisiveness and criminality attendant in his administration.

My family were Rockefeller Republicans going back to 1960, when my parents voted for him in the Republican primary against Nixon and then again in 1964. He was a great statesman. Its sad today that the GOP is completely in the hands of rightwing lunatics. I and many other progressive Republicans are now proud Democrats!

But, I am doing a project over Wintrhrop and Nelson Rockefeller, and with what I have found, it seems as if Winthrop, not Nelson, would be the one to be "erased" from history, because it said that Winthrop was considered the "black sheep" of the family.
