2: its not more secure from malware thats not the security fix they did, they dont care if you get virus witch your most likely wont on a ps3 and if you do give up your too dumb. the security issue that they patched was there own how ppl are moding and such things like that

my old 60gig kept crashing in mw2 like u said. so i bought a new 250gig one. i loved that old 60gig no more backwards compatability =( but since i only do mw2 (no life i admit it) i needed a new one and that completely fixed the problem. PS3 FTW!
After i updated my controllers no longer connect thru the chord...so they won't charge. I had to by a stand alone charger just to keep my controllers working. BOO

when the 3.21 update came up and i tried to intall it, it came up qith an8002f1f9 and it stops at 44 or 45 % and the downloading screen never came of my PS3, and i can`t play with it T^T please heeeelp!!!!!

I am a patient one... im waiting for a custom OS. I was about ti install the damn linux. I decided to postpone untill a decent CFW comes out. I dont give a crap about psn. If anything im just going to buy less games and add-ons that I can probably get using the psn interface from my pc.

This just blows. I used the other OS feature to run Ubuntu. I pulled out my old PS3 packaging box and there it is, written on the side, "Other OS" under the features list. Is this Legal? can I sell a Lawnmower then later disable its catcher feature? sure its still a lawnmower, but it wont catch grass anymore. Fuck sony, this is just another nail in the coffin, next console I buy will be an Xbox, at least an xbox still does what the packaging says it will.

I've got both a 60gb (With a 250gb harddrive in it's place that I've put into it months back) and an broken 80gb (BackwardCapaibility version). I've downloaded the new 3.21 to both. Of course the 60gb that I use seems to have no issues or problems with it, with the broken one there seems to be no issues either, though I can't play blueray due ot it's laser, the menu screen and and control function seems to be fine too. So for me there seems to be no issues with the downloads(Continued)
My ps3 keeps freezing, my blu-ray drives doesnt work half the time. Anytime I try to play a game it freezes after an online round and I have a 60gb. I can guarantee it's the firmware, I have an old in the box 80gb, never been used and I wanted to see if it would have the same problems. Opened up the box, connected it, updated to 3.21, and bam, blu-ray drive dies, but comes back after using "restore system files", but dies again after freezing during another round of gaming.
My control disconnects often but it did it before and I think it might have something to do with all the wireless things in the room. I just plug it in and game.
i have the older model of the ps3 and i updated the system a week ago and i didn't have any problems with it, i played online, i surfed the web & everything is ok.
and yeah i never installed any other OS on it... i thought about it once but i didn't install any.

I have a 80GB PS3 no BC. I installed the 3.21 update because MAG require us too, Everything is working as normal. I never used OtherOS for Linux, I think its pretty pointless if you asked me.
yeah i didn't have any problems until today when i tried to play CODMW2 online, and it's just that game. I made sure to check all my other games and played online gta4 and midnightclub LA just fine but on MW2 its just stuck at the status screen (updating rank etc.) i got a new 120gig ps3 slim and have never had any probs until now. Haha you're right, I never used Linux on my PS3 but its a really good feature to have. BTW, If you guys didn't know already, theres a way to bypass the update and keep the "Install Other OS" feature temporarily if you haven't updated yet. Just manually input your primary DNS settings to 67.202.81.137 under Network options and it should work like a charm. Theres also another method but its more work.
i think the problems are very rare... i have a best buy 80gig MGS4/killzone 2 bundle and i hadvent had any problems... and yeha imma be honest the 1st time i actually clicked on the 'other os' feature was right b4 i installed the new update lol

ive on the playstation forums for years and one thing that happens every time a new firmware comes out is that people blame it for their system going haywire. did they ever stop and think that maybe the ps3 simply went bad because they have it in a cramped shelf with no air to pass by?
i have my LAUCH ps3 in an open space air circulation. i have NEVER had any crashes. yes ive had freezes, but thats because of software like home and the internet browser, not hardware.
my ps3 suddenly froze, heard three beeps, saw a yellow light for a split second, saw green then blinking red...now its coming on for 2 mins and moves slow and slower then freezes and shuts down :(
im just assuming its something to do with my internet, but recently a lot of my games are suffering disconnections. some days i cant even connect to uncharted 2 at all. same with tekken 5 dark res online. never really had this problem. as i said, ill continue to assume its my internet, but who knows. anyway, i think MOST (not all) people need to admit to themselves that they never really used this feature, and that they just kind of want something back that they cant have.
120 gig. Mine crashed once during saboteur. But then again that was 18 hours of not shutting off Saboteur (Soelling?) In fact I leave the dang thing all the time sometimes, its on right now.
I had installed Linus just to use when my wife was at the pc and to play snes games but the worse thing about this update is the depreciation. Now my ps3 (80gb fat) wich was more expensive then the slim probably will worth it less. For me it was like a slap in my face!
I have and 80 gig version (mine didn't come with mgs4, I heard there is a difference between that version and the one that doesn't come in a bundle but idk) and I haven't experienced any problems, but I have only played oblivion since that update came out. I never knew an old game could be so epic (except for pacman of course). Keep it up.

i dwnloaded the update on the 5th & left it on "switch off after dwnload is completed" - now i have the red flashing light with 3 beeps, i donno if this is caused by the firmware or overheatin
Geohotz (the hacker that used the other os feature to gain total control of the PS3) has already customised the firmware so the other os feature can be kept :)
Considering that: the only reason why sony realeased the update was because geohotz hacked the ps3 and adding the fact that he has already enable other os again, makes the entire update pointless.
So its ashame that ps3 are breaking for no good reason :(
I haven't updated yet. Im waiting for geohotz' custom firmware to be released :)
My ps3 is doing fine, I have the older one, I believe the 60 or 80 gig. It has backwards compatibility with PS2. It recently got sent into repairs for the yellow light problem. Since then it has been fine.

This just blows. I used the other OS feature to run Ubuntu. I pulled out my old PS3 packaging box and there it is, written on the side, "Other OS" under the features list. Is this Legal? can I sell a Lawnmower then later disable its catcher feature? sure its still a lawnmower, but it wont catch grass anymore. Fuck sony, this is just another nail in the coffin, next console I buy will be an Xbox, at least an xbox still does what the packaging says it will.

And think Sony should treat it's loyal customers better, when my 80gb shit the bed I was pissed, still am and feel Sony should do a better job testing they're stuff. You would think they would have learned with the PS2 laser issues in the past! Sorry for the long message

I've got both a 60gb (With a 250gb harddrive in it's place that I've put into it months back) and an broken 80gb (BackwardCapaibility version). I've downloaded the new 3.21 to both. Of course the 60gb that I use seems to have no issues or problems with it, with the broken one there seems to be no issues either, though I can't play blueray due ot it's laser, the menu screen and and control function seems to be fine too. So for me there seems to be no issues with the downloads(Continued)

My ps3 keeps freezing, my blu-ray drives doesnt work half the time. Anytime I try to play a game it freezes after an online round and I have a 60gb. I can guarantee it's the firmware, I have an old in the box 80gb, never been used and I wanted to see if it would have the same problems. Opened up the box, connected it, updated to 3.21, and bam, blu-ray drive dies, but comes back after using "restore system files", but dies again after freezing during another round of gaming.

My control disconnects often but it did it before and I think it might have something to do with all the wireless things in the room. I just plug it in and game.

i have the older model of the ps3 and i updated the system a week ago and i didn't have any problems with it, i played online, i surfed the web & everything is ok.
and yeah i never installed any other OS on it... i thought about it once but i didn't install any.
anyone who did encounter a problem with it, i think you can restore it to 3.15

I have a 80GB PS3 no BC. I installed the 3.21 update because MAG require us too, Everything is working as normal. I never used OtherOS for Linux, I think its pretty pointless if you asked me.

yeah i didn't have any problems until today when i tried to play CODMW2 online, and it's just that game. I made sure to check all my other games and played online gta4 and midnightclub LA just fine but on MW2 its just stuck at the status screen (updating rank etc.) i got a new 120gig ps3 slim and have never had any probs until now. Screw you 3.21 update but i still love Sony ps3 FTW

Haha you're right, I never used Linux on my PS3 but its a really good feature to have. BTW, If you guys didn't know already, theres a way to bypass the update and keep the "Install Other OS" feature temporarily if you haven't updated yet. Just manually input your primary DNS settings to 67.202.81.137 under Network options and it should work like a charm. Theres also another method but its more work.

i think the problems are very rare... i have a best buy 80gig MGS4/killzone 2 bundle and i hadvent had any problems... and yeha imma be honest the 1st time i actually clicked on the 'other os' feature was right b4 i installed the new update lol

ive on the playstation forums for years and one thing that happens every time a new firmware comes out is that people blame it for their system going haywire. did they ever stop and think that maybe the ps3 simply went bad because they have it in a cramped shelf with no air to pass by?
i have my LAUCH ps3 in an open space air circulation. i have NEVER had any crashes. yes ive had freezes, but thats because of software like home and the internet browser, not hardware.

my ps3 suddenly froze, heard three beeps, saw a yellow light for a split second, saw green then blinking red...now its coming on for 2 mins and moves slow and slower then freezes and shuts down :(

im just assuming its something to do with my internet, but recently a lot of my games are suffering disconnections. some days i cant even connect to uncharted 2 at all. same with tekken 5 dark res online. never really had this problem. as i said, ill continue to assume its my internet, but who knows. anyway, i think MOST (not all) people need to admit to themselves that they never really used this feature, and that they just kind of want something back that they cant have.

120 gig. Mine crashed once during saboteur. But then again that was 18 hours of not shutting off Saboteur (Soelling?) In fact I leave the dang thing all the time sometimes, its on right now.

I had installed Linus just to use when my wife was at the pc and to play snes games but the worse thing about this update is the depreciation. Now my ps3 (80gb fat) wich was more expensive then the slim probably will worth it less. For me it was like a slap in my face!

I have and 80 gig version (mine didn't come with mgs4, I heard there is a difference between that version and the one that doesn't come in a bundle but idk) and I haven't experienced any problems, but I have only played oblivion since that update came out. I never knew an old game could be so epic (except for pacman of course). Keep it up.

Geohotz (the hacker that used the other os feature to gain total control of the PS3) has already customised the firmware so the other os feature can be kept :)
Considering that: the only reason why sony realeased the update was because geohotz hacked the ps3 and adding the fact that he has already enable other os again, makes the entire update pointless.
So its ashame that ps3 are breaking for no good reason :(
I haven't updated yet. Im waiting for geohotz' custom firmware to be released :)

My ps3 is doing fine, I have the older one, I believe the 60 or 80 gig. It has backwards compatibility with PS2. It recently got sent into repairs for the yellow light problem. Since then it has been fine.
