I don't think government regulation is a good idea in banking usually; it should be left to the private banks to make their own decisions.

However, why doesn't the Fed just require people to put 15-20% down to buy a house?

@Drregaleagle private banks are the ruin of this planet. Fiat money systems just create debt and money out of thin air. Private banks control every decision we make in this world. The Federal Reserve is a private bank. Control the currency control the country.
