Thanks Kevin..Kevin here too..i'm 48 now..but when I was younger, suicide passed through my mind countless times, and it's heartwrenching to see kids today go through so much pain...I am just so sad each time I hear of a younger person who takes their life for whatever reason, that 'we' as adults didn't catch them beforehand..young people..believe me, we hear your cries, we have felt your pain, reach out and if you find an unattentive ear, then keep reaching out, never give up...

@dahunan I have news for you - you are just as religious as me. All people have beliefs that govern everything else that they do. These beliefs comprise one's belief system and they are not scientifically arrived at or even susceptible to scientific verification. Christianity is one belief system, but Secular Humanism (which I suspect you hold) is simply another. Humanists believe that human reason and scientific inquiry are sufficient to determine what is true and important.

I am still waiting for an answer to a simple question: Would Trevor Project counselors encourage young people who want to find a way out of homosexuality by referring them to Exodus International or local religious counselors who believe this is possible? If not, then this is a serious disservice to a significant portion of the youth at risk. Even if you don't agree with the Exodus philosophy you have to see this! Otherwise your one-sidedness has to be encouraging suicides for many.

To MRBBJC Those three words saved my life and it had nothing to do with gender or sexual orientation. It has to do with an inherited genetic brain chemical disorder called bi-polar disorder. I don't care what the statistics are. I care that I am alive because someone cared enough to read between the lines on facebook and send me an invite to a private group who asked me to talk to them. I have been trying to find out how the Trevor Project counselors would talk to someone who is convinced that acting on their homosexual tendencies is wrong. So far I have not received a response. If the counselors reject the idea that homosexuals can become heterosexual or abstinent then I am quite sure that they are actually contributing to more suicides than they are preventing. There are many young people in this position. And telling them that they cannot change takes away their hope.

@kashiichan If you accept the historic understanding of Christianity that sexual intercourse was designed by God as the symbol and consummation of the union of a husband and wife then the corrollary of this is that we are called to abstain from all sexual intercourse outside of the marriage bond, whether heterosexual or homosexual. It's so sad that so much of the pro-homosexual community has bought into the often-disproven notion that people cannot go from being homosexual to heterosexual.

Alright, first, I think TheTrevorProject is brilliant. It allows silenced and frightened voices to be heard and helped, which any person regardless their gender, orientation, spirituality, race and so on needs at one point in their life.

Second, it saddens me to hear people putting this organization down. I'm both transgender and gay, and unless someone is going through either of those, they can't possibly know what its' like. Sorry, that's a fact. Why dis people saving lives?

They feel they don't have the rights to do anything because they have been put down so much. Equal rights means having the rights that everybody else has. The right to marry, the right to vote, the right to religion and the right to LOVE. And its people like YOU that we have hotlines like this to save lives

@hanksnow82 So anything that we didn't do in the past should not be done now? As it turns out, civil marriage did not exist in Europe until relatively recently. Sounds "special". If you aren't a Christian church member, no marriage for you. Fat kids get bullied more than LGBT kids - where's your data? Moreover, even if a greater % of fat kids get bullied (and let's be honest - a majority of American kids are overweight), statistically more LGBT kids kill themselves.
