Cornell could sing the phone book and make it epic. This entire album is awesome but THIS song is flat-out freaking incredible. Brilliant lyrics, un-freaking-real vocal performance.
Chris has been garbage post-first solo album, but this album was a true classic, should've kept making music like this instead of mainstream, generic hard rock (Audioslave), then trying to do that horrid rhythm and blues album (or whatever you want to call it, abomination also works) I don't even like him in Soundgarden reunion, that beard just screams "GUYS LOOK IM COOL AGAIN, IM TRYING TO BE LIKE EDDIE VEDDER PLEASE FORGIVE ME" ntm the thought of a new album is worrysome at best after "Scream"
I'll cut you in on 20 percent of my future sin...that is the line on this song...they are saying that we go to church, whathave you pay money and expect to be saved...it is ridiculos...
The song is about TV evangelists. Coat hanger halo (antenna), wooden Jesus (TV Box, although not today's tech!), I'll cut you in on 20 percent of my future sin (pledges)
hes talking about the wooden crosses that people worship instead of god hes sayin how people ask the cross to be saved or pay there 20 percent of sin or tithing to the cross instead of jesus hes talkin about religious people opposed to love of god
the best Creep song from the 90's was hands down TLC's...LMAO JK. there was like 3 Creep songs that year...STP, TLC, Radiohead. Then there was Around the World too.
What?? Of course it has everything to do with religion. He's mocking televangelism as well as the greed and hypocrisy of most organized religions. He's being ironic.
@bulldogfight to imply that the person being discussed is fake or inauthentic, like a Korean / Canadian / Taiwanese Jesus (when he's supposed to have born in Bethlehem. . .)
I remember first hearing this and thinking; this is probably the most underrated Soundgarden song, and then I realized I didn't even have the band right, just the singer.
this song's atmosphere is pure 100% grunge...
