Was Knots Landing airing when Bobby "died"? Gary in Knots Landing should have been told that Nobby "died" otherwise fans should have figured out that something is strange with the storylines - If they watch both shows!!
@1991haydn HE WAS TOLD GARY DIED...I REMEMBER BUT DNT RMBR EXACTLY HOW? ALSO-YES VALENE NAMING THE TWIN SON AFTER BOBBY WAS GENIUS BY THE WRITERS UNTIL IT WAS A DREAM AND BOBBY CAME BACK...THIS MADE IT SOMWHAT CONFLICTING W/THE 2 SHOWS...
Can someone clarify if I'm wrong? I am sure I once read where the writers had thoughts of killing off the character of Bobby soon after the series started in order to create the intense hatred between the Ewing’s and Barnes. Obviously the Ewing’s/Barnes feud was already there however having that Barnes woman living at Southfork would just intensify the story.
@battersby255 I wish they had specified just how much money Bobby was leaving to Christopher. Like the brat needed it with the huge fortune that landed (conveniently) in his mother's lap. The 30% interest in Ewing Oil would have been worth $600 million. Bobby would have to had a fortune of probably $50-$100 million, based on his inheritence from Jock, salary as co-President of Ewing Oil, profits from 30% ownership of Ewing Oil and other investment income.
@laminage During this scene, Sue Ellen was off on her "lost weekend" - plastered in some alley. Lucy had just re-married Mitch & were on theri honeymoon. Charlene Tilton was also no longer a cast member for this season in '85-'86. Likely, Bobby would assume Lucy's father would provide for her. Gary had inherited millions, as well as 10% of Ewing Oil, from Jock. Also, Lucy got $5 million just 3 years earlier. Sue Ellen got millions in her '81 divorce settlement. Bobby did leave Ray a lot of land.
@redletter2008 You want to see how a Family "Reacts" to the reading of a Will. Type in Bob Mallow in Emmerdale & Catalina . Bob plays a Family Lawyer who reads the Last Will & Testament of Tom King the most powerful man in a Northern Village in England. It's a Soap Opera in The UK. When his Sons discover a "Surprise" it freaks them out.
Bobby could of left Jenna far more than $500k. He was worth millions, owned 30% of Ewing Oil (worth $600 million), had inherited $10 million upon Jock's death, not to mention the millions he had prior to Jock's death, his share of Ewing Oil profits, his salary as President/Co-President of Ewing Oil, land holdings and other investment income. Jenna should have received at least $5 million and Charlie seperately left $1 million.
@redletter2008 I disagree. Jenna came from a Wealthy Family and she did try to break up Bobby & Pam in the early time of their marriage. Although she didn't "scheme" her way into The Family, she may have given Bobby the impression that she loved the "Glamour" of being a Ewing, than just loving Bobby.
@laminage I see it differently. Pam portrayed herself as only "loving" Bobby, and not the Ewing fortune. She was only able to do this in the end because her mother conveniently inherited a fortune and died shortly afterward, leaving Pam one third of Katherine's father's empire. Also, Bobby found/pursued Jenna after Pam left Bobby because her moral superiority conflicted with Bobby fight for his father's company. Jenna, at least, was comfortable with the Ewings and their money. No moral angst.
@laminage Read this again, & really don't see how (even in '85) anyone (other than Pam-lovers) could take see it this way. Jenna resisted Bobby when he pursued her in '83 after Pam dumped him. She didn't just move into SF (only did after PAM's sister framed her for murder & she went to jail). Shortly after she was rightly freed, Bobby died - at Pam's house/BY Pam's sister. So how/when Jenna was after Bobby's money must have been during "another" dream season. Didn't happen. Pam took the $ & ran!
@redletter2008 You're absolutely right. I'm so sorry. I forgot about all of that History. I'm a hopeless romantic and they were always my favorite couple. To me Bobby was such a great guy. Kind, compassionate, and forgiving and although he was far from perfect, he always tried to do the right thing. I almost forgot about Katherine and what she did. I think I realize now with Jenna, she discovered how "lucky" she was to have a second chance with Bobby.
@laminage I do see that many Dallas fans did not like the Jenna character. It might be because initially, Jenna was seen as a far less likable & kind of a home-wrecking former girlfriend of Bobby's. Then in '83, Priscilla Presley took over the character & she was recast in a far more vulnerable, independent & I think likable character. Jenna was "finished" with using men & men using her. She was caring for Charlie on her own & resisted Bobby for fear of being hurt, losing her independence.
@redletter2008 Yeah, you're so right. Thanks for reminding me. When "Jenna #1" then played by Morgan Fairchild came along, I initually hated her. Pam was trying so hard to be "accepted" by the Family and now this "Woman" came back into Bobby's life. Also, I had my reservations about Priscilla Presley playing Jenna #3 after Francine Tacker (The Paper Chase TV Series). You were right about her working hard as a Single Mother.
I realize Gary wasn't a part of the cast but he should have been included in this scene. It appears as if he was originally meant to be featured (as he was at Bobby's funeral) but that there was some sort of last minute change.
Great video clip. I agree that the dream season was too soft. I didn't like the pairing of Pam and Mark at all during the dream season. I LOVED the scenes between JR and Pam. I LOVE the look on JR's face when it was revealed that Pam was going to be the administator of Christopher's shares of Ewing Oil until he reaches the age on consent.
How come Donna Reed was at his death bed and then Babs Bel Geddis is at the reading of his will!

@lcirej71 It was and they did. In fact Valene had her twins returned to her around this time and named the son after his "dead" Uncle Bobby

Even in death. Bobby fucks J.R. by virtue of him leaving 30% of Ewing Oil to Christopher and Pamela.

One of the best scene endings of Dalas.

I'm surprised he didn't leave anything to John Ross.

@Fanik8 Why should he leave anything to John Ross. Why not then Lucy? He can't dilute his wealth too much. He did the right thing.

Hey don't you notice he didn't leave Sue Ellen or Lucy anything, not that they needed it but he was so thoughtful.
