  • admirable enough take but i think a more simple accompaniment would work better. just bass & accordian would be interesting. the zydeco configuration (i guess you would call it that, no?) sounds a little too cluttered for me on this song. i guess i still appreciate his effort, and good music is still good music, period, which this is. confusing enough for you? bet this group could do a nice version of "I Don't Want To Talk About It" by Danny Whitten.

  • love this

  • does anybody else hear it as "everybody knows, she's a filthy towel"

  • I LOVE the Velvets but the original version of this song with Nico singing is garbage. Chick can't sing. Sorry she had sex with Lou Reed and therefore gets to ruin a well-written song. Costello kills it, plain and simple.

  • Nico must be rolling over in her grave right now.

  • entertain me, I'm as blank as can be....

  • I'd say the Big Star cover outdid the original version.

  • Well, I think this is a great cover. The sulfur-to-sugarcane style suits the older Elvis. Musically, it feels like a US (rather than an Irish) take on some of the old Spike numbers. Lou may(?) have done this better in his heyday, but Elvis does Lou better than Lou can do himself today. Kids, just say 'no' ...

  • i like it - ... it's almost celtic/bluegrassy... they definitely made it their own...

  • Me sorprende que haya tanta gente que no le gusto el cover, la verdad me emociono muchisimo, le dio un giro totalmente diferente a la cancion...

Un placer escuchar que se haga una version tan lograda de la velvet underground!

  • this is a completely new zydeco arrangement of the song, people, not a 'cover,' quote-unquote. jenny scheineman on fiddle *and* vocals is great. watching this episode of 'spectacle' I was saddened by how shockingly inarticulate lou and julian schnabel were. for lou, especially, sorry to say, his day is done. elvis is at the top of his game.

  • elvis's voice: urrrgggghhh, please pipe down a bit. The beauty of a Lou Reed is the understatement. I've never quite got the appeal of Elvis, as his voice is way too fruity, not to mention bordering on tuneless.

  • Mmmm...well i'd shoot the triangle player....if I could only see the blighter. Oops..hang on it might be Pete Thomas..Pete..take a rest on this one mate..

  • This is a spectacular version with the rollicking feel of a smallish pub group. Thanks Elvis for breathing more life into this VU classic

  • Triology - Elvis Costello

  • @adrean83

There's no doubt about it -- 9 times outta 10, the original is going to be better than cover versions. But your dissatisfaction with the "frills" and "unnecessary arrangements" runs against the entire idea of covering other artists' songs. EC is not necessarily trying to improve on Lou's original, just putting a different spin on it. That's what's fascinating and great about popular music: we have the opportunity to enjoy great music through many varied interpretations. Relax...enjoy.

  • I just listened again...

    Is this a cover?

    -Or Karaoke night?

  • @adrean83 I love the original also... but then why would others copy the original..I like this celtic version also... and depending on my mood I will have a choice ...

  • I could almost see Elvis writing this song himself. What a perfect choice for a cover.

  • Edie Sedgwick lives on.....

  • i WAS # 37. IT HURT, but only 4 a moment, after a while i kinda liked it

  • elvis works with the greats..they should be covering his songs..

  • hey seasisdabest yr an idiot, no offense

  • The violin player is the amazing Jenny Scheinman who tours a lot with Bill Frisell.

  • hate elvis's singing. no offense

  • have you ever had that kind of relationship.."she builds you up and then puts you down" who needs that kind of person..

Boca Rat you know who you are ..............amor para Londres

  • It's definitely Larry. At the end of the show, he walks off and comments.

  • Yes, Larry and Tony supporting Elvis, so nice! Who´s the violin player?

  • Ah yeah, its definitely Larry, and Tony Garnier on bass :D

  • Larry Campbell?

  • It sure looks like him.

    Can't confirm for sure.

But Elvis has toured and played with him a couple of years ago, so I wouln't be suprised at all.

Pretty good version of a pretty good song!
