to block facebook you will need to block login.facebook.com, apps.facebook.com, blog.facebook.com, and they do all kinds of crazy shit too, which makes it hard from the firewall level. What about youtube? how do i block that? this doesnt work.

So easy to get around, all those sites you blocked have multiple servers, the only thing you  are blocking is that one address. You need to block all the ways of accessing the site to fully stop someone using it.

you dont have to go through a bunch of pain in the butt stuff to make it work. just, before you do all this, also right click the hosts file, go to properties, and UNCHECK the read-only box. that will allow you to save the changes to it.

I think you need to replace the number there..example..127.0.0.1 is localhost..127.0.0.2 is yahoo.com and the next number goes like that..hope it helps :)

@MrBaghdadboy If your on vista, you have to open another notepad as admin, then cut and paste the original hosts to the admin notepad, then save it as hosts. whatever it is. Or run the original hosts thing as admin to avoid all that shenanigans.

Click Start

Click All Programs

Click Accessories

Right-click Notepad

Click Run as administrator

Click File

Click Open and type: %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\­hosts, Click Open

Type 127.0.0.1 (site url u want to block)
