Are you really comparing a 2.5l to a 4.0l?

4.0 has almost twice the torque. Crawling has nothing to do with engine size. Lots of trail rigs run 4 cups but they are geared low as he'll, talking 5.26,s terra low kits in thectransfer case but have a top speed of about 40mph at 6500 rpm! I test drove a wrangler with 36 inch tsl's it had a 5 speed and could not pull it's on weight. I had a cj with a 4.2 same size tires and it would pull the front tires off the ground. don't say things like that u so

@01deerhunter 4.2s are the most horrendous motors ever. I'm not sure what's worse..the 2 barrel carburetor or the 75,421,567 miles of vacuum hoses!? Now, take the internals and put it in a 4.0 then you are cooking.

those 2.5's are shit. haha ive had my 40 since 2002 with 115000 miles on it now, all ive ever had to do it change the oil. watch once your 2.5 hits 100000 miles its gonne need a rebuild, either that or your AX-5 Tranny

The 2.5s are identical to the 4.0, just 2 cylinders less. No idea where you're getting these rumors from, but they're just as tough as the 4.0

i do agree with with you that the 2.5 is a good engine but  jeep wheeler is right the AX-5 is crap however loosing 2 cylinders doesnt make it the same engine if you think about the displacement its 2/3 the cyl. so

2.5+1.25 3.75 not 4.0

getting more technical the 2.5 is a 151ci and the 4.0 is a 242 so its really not. they share some parts but there not..Think before you type

cylinders, pistons, transmission , headers, exhaust manifolds and drive shaft...just to name a few differences..... thatd be like saying that the only difference in the dodge viper's 8.4 litre V-10 and the dodge charger's 2.7 litre v6 is just 4 cylinders... I understand this is the extreme and will not comment on either of the Jeep engines but the statement u made is borderline stupid

his "4 banger" can push 37's because of these things in the differential called gears... like 4.56 instead of 3.73. or he could have a low transfer case, or dual transfer cases for all we know. Look up "Marlin Crawler" he's got a toyota with the stock engine that can crawl just about anything.

i know it, a person i know has an atlas III transfercase for his TJ. Stock engine and he's runnning 39's. He's alll geared up too but, still. a powerplant swap isnt nessecasry for these big of tires
