  • That's some rotorwash coming from those guys.

  • Hmmm, hovering seems a bit dangerous. No way to put a floating helipad for them to perch on while refilling? Though, I haven't heard of any crashes while helis refilled hovering over lakes, just looks dangerous to me...

  • Where are the female helis? Are they hiding underwater? Anyone got any mating behavior on tape? ^_^

  • I just saw my first Skycrane! I thought it was a fighter jet going overhead, those turbines are so loud, but what a surprise to see one of these ugly birds! Western Australia has hired it for the bushfire season: we get fires every week during summer, so hopefully I can get some action shots!

  • It reads "Ichabod " across the nose LOL! Great vid and thanks for the sound.

  • Thanks for NOT adding music. It is great.

  • Holding it at a hover, steady, while taking on thousands of pounds of water very quickly. Skill.

  • Top footage, my favorite chopper! I love it when Elvis the water bomber fly's over my house it sounds like it's about to land on my roof. (Hardcore porn)...Victoria Australia.

  • @MultiShitforbrains they would spray the water all over your chest and face if it was "hardcore porn".

  • mil mi 26 is better !!!

  • Isn't it a modified Sikorsky?

  • That helicopter saved lives of lots of people.

  • If you can master the controls of a helicopter, you can fly

    anything made by man!!

  • now this is what real men do!

  • @zulquarnainanwar i wish i was a real man

  • @Noot64 so you better be flying instead of being a wussy. lol..just joking.

  • EXCELLENT FOOTAGE!! Amazing!!

  • muito loco

  • I watched one of these take off from Van Nuys airport from about 50 ft away. Very loud, too cool for words.

  • Finally...nice camera work! Especially 3:30 - looks like something from Thunderbirds.

  • Some fish is like....Do you hear something....aaah WTF?!

  • N957AC Sikorsky S-64E C/N 64065 D

  • Haha 00:50 "Ichabod" SkyCrane

  • That is not an LAFD copter, that is an Ericson Air Crane copter.

  • beyond amazing

  • The tank in our terrace needs some water, can you please fill that ............... Thanks !!!!

  • I love how close he got to you!

  • Must be a trainie in 2nd chopper, he was all over the place and forgot to close his tank gates.

  • It would be funny if that second helicopter soaked all those people watching.

  • That is a good way to fill my fish tank... even add a few fish!

  • Hey, aren't those the hills in the background of the opening credits of M*A*S*H*?

  • isabelle is big ^^

  • You would not want anything to go wrong when doing this!

  • Ûhm_aNYòñê_wÀÑnÁ_chÄt_wÍth_mÈ_Ï_fèEl_sô_lõNélÿ_tôÐÂy*

  • look like mutant mosquitoes

  • they're kinda scary, look like mutant mosquitoes

  • i love humannity

  • Helicopter porn.

  • @morailfan Exactly what I was thinking haha

  • what kind of camera was used?

  • at 1:30 my mom was like "oh no all the water wasted" hahaha

  • Seems like the second chopper forgot the door open for the first minute. Seems a b*tch to keep an established hover - nearly sucked in some air! :)

  • by far the best sky crane video I know!!

  • God bless these guys!

  • WOW i love this heli : D

  • Man those fuckers are awesome! Damn.

  • Very Nice!!

These are leased every year by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

  • What happens if it sucks up a few fishes and then a shark or a huge pile of sea weed or even debris? Does it then bring down the helicopter?

  • @OoOJakeOoO For maintenance, yes :)

  • wow

  • How nice! I love your video, nice and clean! No music, no nothing except the amazing sound of this monster

  • thge second one forgot to close ghis bay doors...lol the kids on the ledge should be arrested for being stupid

  • Like a Boss :P

  • wow i bet that was loud seeing that in person,it's beating my poor computer speakers to death just listening to it on them..

  • looks like the second pilot is having some trouble with the helicopter

  • you're looking at some of the worlds greatest pilots

  • @cmanleyspy They have crashed helicopters than they are worth, killed friends of mine because of lack of training and stupidity. Arrogant Air crane

  • did ya see those stupid kids

  • damm hard thing to do.

  • nice camera work dickhead

  • Spectacular!

  • Still got my flt.suit and helmet from flying U.S.C.G. HH52a,s. Easily one of the hardest things you can possibly do is hover a helo. Over water AND taking on water has got to be a stone bitch to do. My helmets off to those pilots.

  • Love the sound I'm glad it hasn't been ruined with music.

  • The best helicopter for the heavyest job.

My respect to all the firefighters and pilots who are doing this heavy job.

Please repair those other S-54 and S64 helicopters. They need to be used.

Don´t scrap those helicopters. Keep them flying.

  • Giant orange mosquitoes!!

  • SUPER

  • VERY nice video!!!

  • Sikorsky skycrane, what a mental aircraft, looks so menacing.

  • @Gromitdog1 Actually it is not a Sikorsky Aircrane but an Ericson Aircrane. Ericson Aircrane owns the manufacturing rights to the aircraft, they are built in Medford, Oregon.

  • is that a public lake???

  • @Moontrucker113

Your question puzzled me enough to reply

Regardless of public or privet water their priority would be the nearest navigable water source

Was it a public or privet fire?

If the lake was private would the owner say

"No, you cant use my water to put out their fire"

Are there private lakes in the US?

US lakes should be used to put out US fires

  • @Choowbz Yeah, there are private lakes in the US, but they tend to be on the small side. It's no difference if someone owns the lake or not, they will use the closest accessible water to put out the fire. I don't know if choppers can do it, but years ago there was a pretty large fire in my area and the firemen drained at least on pool. So I assume if they can do that, then a private lake is the same. So you are spot on.

  • @Choowbz Im not sure if a private lake owner can refuse to let the FD use his lake for water supply.I dont think he can as some emminent domain clause in emergencies probaly allows the FDs to use it

  • @Moontrucker113 i think so. There aloud to do that to your backyard swimming pool too.

  • o brasil deveria ter desses helicópteros..

    ou comprar esses refugos rsrsrs

  • Humm good enough reason fer me never to stand around watching them fill up wonder where the rotor blades would have flown to if they had lost it when they left the door open?

  • nice video

  • the skycrane is quite an ugly helicopter isn't it?

  • @luci66

Yeah, but it is one powerful beast!

    Liston to those engines roar!

  • @bookworm1960 ugly, but still so adorable!

  • though guys , I admire them

  • Awesome! Dude left his door open at 2:14 at as like WOAAA!!!

  • umm, dude i think your d!cks hanging out...

  • hey thats the basted that took my water from my pool jk jk

  • Excellent!! This sure is one amazing impressive helicopter!!

  • Where was that in LA? Close to Sepulveda Blvrd. Shearman Okas?

  • Too bad LAFD doesnt own any Sikorshky S-64's...

god damn people learn your shit before you try to act cool on youtube!

all the skycranes or "donkey dicks" (thats actually what us firefighters call them)

are all privately owned and during fire season the state leases them!!!

  • that's a big helicopter... nice vid

  • The first guy was better at flying!

  • @6CHRIS6ROWE6 the first guy was smart and shut his water door b4 loading 2

  • DDDDDDDDDDDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!

  • Wayyyyy cool!!!!

  • just like a big insect making pee!

  • That was quite literally SPOT ON!

  • amazing shit.

  • that is just a cool helo

  • that is one hell of a pilot! takes major skill to be able to do that

  • Very Cool!

  • @MyCarla27 Oh yeah that is something special!

  • @KarlNerman Nice that You Like it.

I think for Special people (8) a special video!!

    Have a Nice evening!

    Greetings, Carla

  • The impact from one of these dumping is powerful and dangerous. I am a firefighter and just escaped getting dumped on by a Chinook with a bucket (similar amount of water). It busted the top of a tree where we were sitting and broke the cover on my stihl chainsaw..

  • Damn! look at the blade coning @ 3:33 when they are full of water. These Chopper have a max gross weight of 75,000 lbs probably not even close to that with the water.

Great quality video by the way. Wish they were all like this.

  • 2 pilots!

  • Thanks for showing us that!! awesome!

  • Amazing and excellent!!

  • one pilot? it lookes like one pilot Ö.ö?

  • Man I would hate to see one of these encounter VRS....

  • reden love jerry

  • those skycranes are the most impressive fire fighting tool that we have. nothing can put water down as fast, especially with the sea snorkel..i would love to see one up close one day. thanks for the brave crews that fly and fix em.

  • im a fire fighter in oz and we use theese aswell i will see if i can get a video of it droping water and a view of the cock pit we also have some other helicopter bomber i will be postin some vids with in the next week or so

  • I did my 133 training in Texas but never got a chance to do the fire fighting with the bambie bucket :-( looks awesome

  • that is cool

  • Awesome display of power under control.

    Thanks for uploading.

  • Go to khowardphotoart to see Clouds of fire

  • This Helitanker is on contract with LA County Fire and there is one on Contract with LA City Fire. They have decals on the tailboom LACo & City. They're Own and operated by Erickson Air Crane located in Central Point, Oregon. Erickson has the Type Certificate for the Sikorsky S 64 E/F model which was bought from Sikorsky in 1992.

There are only 35 out 100 that were made in operation. 10 of them were assigned to the Station fire.

    Google Erickson and get educated!

  • there a erickson sky crane and there probly leased by lafd but there owned by a privet comany.

  • These sky cranes make my job alot easier.

  • the helicopter was hovering.

  • cool either way

  • Those are Erickson choppers not LAFD!!

  • Comment removed

  • then why does it have the lafd symbol if its not lafd

  • the second one, seemed a little sketchy...

  • I agree, a little sketchy. Anyone know if these were LAFD pilots or Erickson's. Pretty unstable hover and leaving the dump door open seems like a rookie mistake.

  • they're fuckin unreal

  • these are so ugly! but so efficient....and cool

  • Cool vid....some of these copters actually can have a water canon mounted near the nose of the aircraft. Pretty amazing.

  • mad skills

  • at 0:30 those look like some kind of insect, maybe a wasp or a hornet

  • no a rumor a MYTH haha

  • Remember the rumor that one of these things sucked up a scuba diver and dumped him on the fire?? Probably NOT true but funny.

  • Mythbusters tried this, it doesn't work. Just a rumor.

  • That kinda reminded me of two mosquitoes sucking up blood.... lol

  • he is syphoning the water, the #2 heli good pilots

  • Ha ha, i think the second Sky crane forgot that the water dispenser thing was still open on the belly tanker, then he tried to fly away and was like shit im empty....

But he might just be flushing out dirt or something...

  • I remeber once seeing these type of helicopters when I was little. It was so awsome watching theme load up and take off.

  • la canada is los angeles county fire, not LAFD. they do not own the sky crane tankers. they are private.

  • those pilots pwn

  • Stupid moron kid @2:52. If the jerk fell in then they'd have to call in more reinforcements to save his useless life instead of focusing on the real problem at hand... The Station Fire... Idiot child.

  • dude calm down

  • I'm over it

  • @thesethingz very true lol stupid kid shouda fell in and they should have left him there

  • @thesethingz lol there would b no rescue if he fell in hes at a underground intake

  • @brunstj ... LOL!!!

  • @thesethingz Ha those kids almost got blown back across the border.

  • @CyanoticFuture

If only they did, this world would be a better place.

  • @thesethingz lol wtf was he trying to do?!

  • @thesethingz Your a stupid moron, why you have so many thumbs up i don't know, you REALLY think that if the pilot saw the kid fall in he'd land his chopper to try pull him out or help rescue the kid? Uuuuuum, NO!

  • @bazman85 Hey fuck you man! Re-read my post asshole. If in fact this douche bag kid did fall in the water the fire fighters MUST stop what they are doing and rescue this fag. I wish it had been you that was on the vid and I wish you had fallen in and no one rescued you. Die faggot!

  • @thesethingz Ha ha ha yeah man sure they MUST stop, the kid can probably swim, fuck, i've never ever read such a retarded comment. If i'd fallen in, i can swim, faggot.

  • @bazman85 Let me explain it to you like you're a 5 year old. If you knew anything about fire rescue, etc. by law they have to stop and help if someone gets in to trouble. Doesn't matter if one can swim or not they have to help. Then that takes away from the more serious matter at hand... like saving hundreds of homes, people and pets instead of one useless douche bag that chose to fuck around.

  • @thesethingz Hush your dirty potty mouth you dumb fat pig.

  • @bazman85 spoken like true idiot who doesn't know ass from his elbow.

  • @bazman85 this must be Buddy Gibson (potty Mouth?)

  • @thesethingz

i would like to see that fag swim with a hovering helicopter hahahahahahahahahaha that would be fuckin hilarious

  • @bazman85 you sounds like a fucking douche bag lol

  • @bazman85 I don't see you getting any thumbs up you knob licker.

  • This is some rad footage. Nice capture. Crazy looking Sky Crane Tanker.

  • lafd does not have a sky crane, the sky crane is own by a private company

  • Put on the brakes pretty good.

  • looks like bugs

  • what lake is this?

  • Comment removed

  • Nice video. It looks like at 2:46 you saw the kids messing around on the flood control wall and wanted to get the shot of one of them falling in. :)

BTW I live in San Diego and experienced the big 2003 and 2007 fires we had down here. Glad there wasn't as much damage and loss of life.

  • Paranoia

every video i have watched about this you posted the same comment....

They would have found something else instead of here..

  • Fires have been a part of the natural ecosystem here in Southern California for thousands of years. It just became a problem when we started building houses up into the natural fire areas (the hills). Arsonists have been a part of fires for as long as people have be around, and well before some in the middle east started hating us. Fires are dramatic but if they wanted to cause loss of life, or get credit for doing something new there are a bunch of better ways to do it.

  • stop trolling you fuck!

  • Right I just pulled up a worthless turd out of the cyber ocean name of thesethingz.Go suck shit through a rag.

  • wow im so close to the fire i live on the other side of La Canada near glendale

  • Even though LA is a wretched city, this technology and the firefighters themselves, are incredible!

  • what the hell this la on fire is bullshit and so is this video
