i loved band of brothers and the pacific, and all the great vietnam moves.. platoon, apocalypse now and full metal jacket... but this is at the top of my list, its magic.
I love this ending. I love the fact that Brad, doc and Nate dont want to look at the video, and all the guys leaving during the video. Its a really powerfull moment in the series. Ray looking disgusted at Trombley when he says: its fucking beautiful. Ray giving the drink to Brad and they look all emotional to each other. I think they were really close friends. All of them were, just like Rudy who hugs Manimal, or Stafford and Garza who have their arms around echt other. Just a great end.
@arivas713 This series was based off of actual events recorded by Evan Wright (Rolling Stone) while he was embedded with these men. You can't take something that literally portrays true events, and then make a sequel.
this series is so inspiring in a way and the brother hood is fenaminal. thats the main reason why i got attached to it, the brother hood. what a perfect ending. RIP generation kill
Everybody hoped that The Pacific would be the successor of BoB. But it was Generation Kill in my opinion, because I got really attached to the characters.
What a powerful clip. I've never seen the show, but it's so symbolic. This guy who is so obsessed with the war is the one who is doomed to be followed by it. That guy reminded me of too many of my brothers who have never been able to get over that silly war. This is only beautiful in how true it is. Looking at other comments I"m hurt to read that other people see this as some oorah bullshit. I really doubt that is the way it was made to be interpreted.
Generation Kill really brought it all back for me. No matter what war or what year, we all essentially had the same guys and the same experiences. Every war is different, every war is the same.
Is he reason there all leaving throughout the video because there all looking back at the moments and see that what looked awesome at the time isnt really so? and then that one guy at the end who was always talking about killing people was he saying all that stuff as an act to seem tougher? because when he leaves in the end he looks genuinely disgusted
@SketchyPeenut No, he actually sincerely means it when he says it's beautiful. He's a psychopath. In every fire fight you see Trombley in he's just having a blast.
As much as I like this scene, I've never understood where Brad's contempt comes from. Does he have a superiority complex or is it just general disapproval of the video?
@mshaddock I'm fairly certain that he's just disgusted with frat house attitude of the whole company and didn't want any part of their video. Everyone who did watch eventually saw that maybe their exploits don't seem so awesome on-scree: in the absence of the exhilaration of battle all those dead bodies and brawling kids are just sad.
@mshaddock - I know it's 3 months ago, but in the book it explains he basically doesn't like people, he's kind of like me, i like few people, and if I never saw them again I wouldn't care, I guess it's just the way I am. His whole life has been about the Marines, this isn't the end for him, and as he quotes 'The machine of war will roll on' and he will undoubtedly be a part of it . I hope that explains a bit more about his character, he is afterall, the Iceman.
,, It is fucking beautifful!,, Jesus. But this video is very gut and Generation Kill is one of the best serial ever. By me it is Band of Brothers of 21st century.
The thing I love about this clip, is It's half real clips and half clips from the series.
Like half of them are actually from The real 2-1 Bravo etc. The other half were throw in by the director. :)
I cried during this scene when I first saw it.

just love this clip so much, the slow realization of how unsatisfied the men are of what they've done on their tour is amazing, truly emotive scene!

Did this actually happen, or is it a metaphor on the director's part?

@Historianization It's one of the few fabricated scenes in the series.

@12hat12
it is a little les symbolic then that.
it is to show the bonds between the soldiers, they got during the war.
its not really anti-war,
sure the soldiers are bloodthirsty. But they try to do good (not harm civillians).
it really is a wonderfull series.

@12hat12 I feel like you do, disappointed in some of the comments. But again, maybe it is not meant to be understood by all..
