The most entertaining aspect of this video was the black widow-looking, ice princess talking head at 5:02. She probably thinks her doo-doo doesn't smell.
That last pt. Rosie O'Donnell would say something like that-If you like her sorry but I CAN'T stand, why? B/c when she still had her show, she was previewing Christmas items, sat this Barbie on her desk it started shaking, she starting going on about it having seizures & as a person who has seizures it really pissed me off. In someways I've used this song for people as ignorant as Rosie O'Donnell-I may get knocked down by my seizures but I'm gonna get back up again, your never gonna keep me down
I hate how people like & know this band, & they over look their old Anarcho stuff, it's pretty sad, but hey I guess this song brings a bunch of people together, so that's good :P
@Cryptbass -I think what you said about the song bringing people together it is a GREAT point. I look at my favorite Dave Matthews Band (DMB) & think about what my Dave said in Rolling Stone "You don't have to agree w/any of us politically but if you love our music, you can be a DMB fan" I don't agree w/them politically but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE their music so I guess I am a DMB fan? TRUST ME I AM A DMB FAN!
Idiots on TV "I had to look up anarchy in the dictionary, I just didnt know an anarchist could sing, where did you find them, on the Jerry Springer show? " hehehe-NOT. Sad people. Jes fuckin shut up and educate yourself!!!!!
I love dance music like drum n bass, house, trance etc BUT Im deffo partial to a bit of chumbawamba :) I grew up listening to them and even though i was too young to really understand what they were about I enjoyed there tracks. I get knocked down but i get up again a great line in real life! dont give up! there lyrics mean summat! fuck the critics and haters they know fuck all
. . . their time in the limelight was over, they didnt try to write another Tubthumper. They all agreed that it was an interesting experience but that they preferred real life and now are a really great folk band, with the same attitude they always had.
....DID have a hit, they used the platform that that gave them really really well. They behaved badly at the Brits in a true anarchic way, they said on TV that if you wanted to shop lift their CD, then thats fine with them but suggested that you should do it from large chains like HMV rather than small indie record shops. They did business with GM Motors only to give the money to a company who was fighting against GM Motors. They refused business with some other mutli nationals and when . . .
I dont think Chumba abandond thier anarchic roots. At all. I understand when they said that being signed to an indie labal at that time was useless. They were run the same money grabbing people as majors, but they just werent as good at their job. So signing to EMI (who by that time HAD cut ties with Thorn which was the main reason the lefties hated them back in the 80's) meant they could keep on making records AND have a chance at selling them, which is the point. And I think that when they...
Our band were totally diff in direction to them but they let use use there space which was good of em,I never loose sleep over anything!..im trying to point out that they should have practiced what they preeched....were all anti-capitalism/anarchist till the money starts to roll in!
Danbert is making music in the USA and continuing to play live. Alice is a very successful script writer for radio and TV, Chumbawamba the band are still going strong, playing gigs and releasing very good music.
knew them all very well in the early 80s they played loads of free gigs in leeds inc stop the city they had cred but what the fuck happended.we used to practice in there cellar at carr crofts and they were always telling us our sound was too commercia!! pot fucking kettle black! they have a great back cat but as soon as tub came out they just lost it!.and its fuckin chumbawAmba.not fukin wumba.spleen vented. gutted as they told us not to try for a commercial record and they just took the piss.
Yeah well people are like that. I wouldn't worry about it, there are plenty of folks out there that unduly despise Chumbawumba- underground punkers and journalists alike. I wouldn't join the anti-chumba bandwagon simply because they said something to you one day and then changed their mind. Go easy.
Absolutely great band. Saw them years and years ago in Salisbury Arts Centre. As for 'one hit wonders', technically they are i suppose however thank christ for that. I am glad they were never a massive band....it meant more tight knit gigs with an awesome atmosphere. They have plenty of great songs with one of my faves being dog.
These guys are incredible, This "HIT" is a mediocre piece against the rest of their collection, truly great stuff. The newest one has the best title, that explains the whole music industry, and why, a real, thinking, non toy band, will never make it, its not about talent, its how good a puppet are you?
I have to agree. They don't deserve the moniker 'One Hit Wonders'...they're an anarchist music collective more concerned with performing songs that have a message than staying on the charts and finding that follow up hit. They've scads of great songs. One hit wonders to me are like those showbiz hacks who struck it rich that same summer with hits like 'the Macarena'and 'Mambo Number 5'.
Exactly. They don't deserve to be put in the same category as the people who wrote songs like "Mickey" and "I'm Too Sexy". Besides, I don't get why they're considered a one-hit wonder in the US. I thought their song "Amnesia" got pretty good radio play in the US too. Maybe not. I know they had the song "Pass It Along" featured in a US car commercial.
You can have all the songs released, but if you only have one Top 40, you're considered a one-hit wonder. Consider the Grateful Dead: Plenty of songs, but only one ever reached the Top 40: 1987's Touch of Grey went to number 6.
Chumbawamba one hit wonder? this is probably one of their worst songs..

Chumbawamba isn't a one-hit-wonder - not at all, and they have a large back catalogue.
