i have used his 700 hundred club and billy graham testimony in churches in my country to spread his love and faith in Jesus Christ.. he wanted to be remembered as a good soldier for Christ, more than one of the greatest player who played the game of basketball.. he's life's testimony is so moving and touching.. he will be so missed. RIP PISTOL YOU ARE NEVER FORGOTTEN..YOU WILL ALWAYS LIVE IN OUR HEARTS AND MEMORIES...
stupid kids these days are always saying jordan changed the game more than anybody. jordan jordan jordan. PISTOL FUCKING PETE invented moves ten times greater than jordan
dead at 40??? You never know when God, the Supreme playmaker will throw you a no look pass your just not ready for. At least I'm glad he died ballin', that makes me feel lucky and blessed to still be playing at 52. (still skoolin' kids half my age)Love the Game! I'm chuckin' the next 3 up for Pistol.
The SEC is a great hoops conference NOW, but wasn't in the Maravich era. Kentucky was always solid, but that's about it. Look at the video "Ultimate COLLEGE Pistol Pete Maravich LSU Mix" and tell me if anything jumps out at you. Vandy was actually one of the best teams in the SEC in the 1960s, just because they were, for quite a while, the only racially-integrated SEC team. That said, Maravich himself was not a bigot, and he would have been great in any conference.
Pete entered the NBA with the biggest salary at that time, 1970 (?), and was met with such resentment from veteran NBA players. But he was the toast of collegiate scoring and college basketball. Those of us who loved him agonized over his ostracization, the disrespect of those he wanted to play with and earn the respect of. It is sooo good to see these mature retired players some always friend and some who have come around to give him his due. How inspiring he found his peace in the Lord.

Thumper Newman..There is an article about him in Thursday Chicago Tribune..HS Legend out of VA who became a great Humantarian, runs a food bank in VA & built water wells in Africa
thumper newman was a white b-baller. his style of play was like magic, doc, pistol pete, very flashy . his style of play ended his career with a between the legs pass in the superdome..it blew up his knee and he was done. after several attempts at trying out he gave up and and started ainner city team that won 100+ straght games, he now does city charity work.
pistol is a great basketball player even on today's standards. but his has a greater faith in God which is really comendable and praise worthy to God. he loved God so much and he has a great compassion for the lost. his testimony edifies and glorifies God's mercy and goodness in his life. am sure pistol would agree, to God be the Glory!
ii just wanted to say Pete Maravich was awesome alot of people dont give him his props saying things like if he would play now his showtime razzle dazzle wouldnt work he would just be any other "show boat" i disagree 100% i mean he was the maker of show time.. So i just wish i could have lived in his time i would do anything to meat him its just to bad what happened. So now i just mimick every move shot pass he ever did to be just like him!,
514, I did not see the Suns game... I only worked the home games and that game was an away game. I don't know if that game was even televised, as few were in those days.
here's a story 514stop. i was a ball-boy for the jazz... i was about 17. i had just stepped out of the locker and grabbed a left over bolgna sandwich on white bread that was in the press room. when i came back, Pete spyed the sandwich and said, " that has no nutritional value. don't you re-lize if you take that white bread ( Pete makes a fist ) and crumble it up- you could break a window with it...so how are you going to digest that?! if i had eaten wheat bread as a kid i would be six-nine !
Thank you jp...Pete played perhaps his best game ever against the Suns March 18th, 1977. Did you see that game and do you know if it is available anywhere? Thanks. (I wouldn't mind another story or two.)
Great video, he has a great story and an even greater legacy as a basketball player and as a Christian. He has touched many lives in ways that eevn he wouldnt imagine. I know as a basketball player and as a father that he has had a tremedous impact on myself and my children. We are lucky we are in Louisiana and get to watch his sons from afar grow up and share their love of basketball with others. My children have been fortunate enought to hang out with them and share and learn that love. .
thanks so much for this. his death is still a shock in its untimeliness. i was lucky enough to go to his basketball camps (thanks sis) and work for the new orlean jazz in the late seventies. you are missed by many Pete.
