  • Just...beautiful.

  • love this...

  • The song of someone who have definitely known heroin and despair, as deep as a bottomless pit

  • @drdotislovinlife wow and you are 28 years old and you think like that ! I pity you all the more that you don't know how to write W-E-A-K ! Check out Cat's biography moron, stevens took H and gave all his money to go in an ashram so as to avoid taking drugs. (by the way, the week people fuck you in the arse bitch!)

  • @dega723 I second that observation....

  • Its all about fip'n situations that are negative to a positive. Like an egg in the skillet. When I hear this jam, I feel promise and hope. Oh Yeah...I'm Flip! hahahaha Love Cat, thanks for the download!

  • Cat Stevens had all of our human weaknesses figured out within his lyrics long before it was cool to approach this type of content within pop song music structures. By singing the words that he did, they (the words), were a little more than just foreshadowing of the drama in all of our lives in the decades and years since then, but even today they are as cogent as they every were.

  • @kimberlyexpects

Catstevens the singer/songwriter is still a beautiful and sensitive man who made us think and feel!

Why? What happened? He found islam and islam found him! Says something about the religion. Pity it broke your heart.

  • this song makes me chocked up everytime i hear it i have had sucha rough time dealing w/ bi polar &&+having a parent dealing w/ alchohol addiction and such and when i ever i go to the dark place i always put this song on makes me feel like im not alone

  • wow Cat Stevens makes GREAT music couple generations late but blame it on my parents lol

  • Cat Stevens the singer/song writer was a beautiful and sensitive man who made us think and feel with his music. Yusuf Islam the muslim is something totally different, I can't understand what the hell happened. And it will always break my heart!

  • you dont hear emotion like this in new music. people can try to judge his spiritual beliefs but that is just an obtuse distraction to the true meaning of his expression that is in his music. so what if your religion is not the same they all have the same values until evil people corrupt them. you know that there are good and bad people everywhere. good music is a treasure and should be respected.

  • @ThevanGoghBlues its nice to hear someone listens to the words and feels them as they're intended instead of judging cat... if only we could all be so wise

  • Seven people don't understand beauty.

  • @zaneearldufour Make that eight.

  • Harold and Maude - incredible poignant song for that magnificent movie. Cat Stevens was really cute when he was young!

  • This has always been one of my favorite songs all time...its amazing that anyone can identify with it. If you replace the word trouble with any vice you have...drugs, debt, or even an ex love...you can relate. Amazing song, Amazing Artist!

  • This might not be a common view for many, but when I listen to this, I always take it as something of an alcoholic trying to quit, more so because of the line, "I've drunk your wine, and you have made your world mine..."

    Anyone else have something similar?

  • @RockRican wine is a metaphor for anything that ales (pun intended) you and wont let go

  • Excellent

  • Harold & Maude is a wonderful movie, but it definetely wouldn't be the same without Cat Stevens' magical songs

  • love this scene in harold and maude.

  • Islam doesnt kill people, people kill people... they always have and probably always will

  • 6 people need trouble to set them free

  • i drank your wine and u have made your world mine so wont u be fare. i don't want no more of u so wont u be kind to me just let me go where i have to go there. trouble oh trouble move away, i have seen your face and its too much for me today. trouble oh trouble can't u see you have made me a wreck now wont u leave me in my misery.... i have paid my debt so wont u leave me in my misery.

    kills me everytime

  • I just listened to this song and cried my eyes out! is that strange?

  • @goodfellas1001 No. You might be searching for othere's who understand. We do.

  • @goodfellas1001 No, that's not strange...I can't listen to it with out tears streaming...We watched Harold and Maude in my Humanities college class, and when this song came on, it took all I had not to cry in front everybody...It's just one of those songs

  • @goodfellas1001 Actually Yusuf is a man who can teach us a lot about life just find out what he is doing right now in his life not just music or songs, he is really an inspiration

  • HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS.

It's a fucking cat stevens song.

    Calm the fuck down.

  • Great song. Can someone delete all the religious argument comments and anything else that doesn't apply to the song? sheesh.

  • @katydidscorner How many people have been murdered in the name of Islam since its founding? Millions! So all that happened was that one evil was traded for the other. What a shame.

  • I made a video for this song if anyone's interested: watch?v=F7ccbQeQ31I

  • @katydidscorner it is a mystery to all men we'll know when we parish my opinion is we are all wrong with these organized religions set up by man judging other for what ever way they chose to worship GOD.Judge not lest ye be judge!!!!

  • @soldieronedge1 Well generally each book says prayer to the higher being (God, I guess you could call it), so humans natural instinct is to gather and interact. Mix that with the prayer thing and you get the foundation of organised religion. I don't know where it went south, but I imagine those first few years were wonderful.

  • just listen to the music and the lyrics and apply it to yourself and find whatever path is your path

  • It galls me to say I like Cat but hes cool enough to realise that all forms of encouraged hatred are deplorable and this is a song full of humanity .My point being drop the religious/quasiphilosophical debate as no one here dislikes this music , enjoy

  • Why cant people stop arguing about his religion, music like this transcends all walks of life.

  • He preached love and understanding He is missed so hope we love him

  • We are all people here. Tolerance is what America is made of. No islam ever crashed a plane to those i loved only those her were radicals. That is evil and we have our own here

  • Religion is what u believe and all deserve respect never hate

  • Cat Stevens!!?? He leave this life, money, fame and singing & every thing people think the happiness with them and converted to Islam, Why ??

Because he find the happiness inside in the heart with Islam, Not with money, fame, singing and women.

watch some videos on my youtube channel to know more about Islam

  • good song

  • @ABWEndon what if man created god just to seem meaningful? To give ourselves a reason to live.....

  • I always feel like I'm right where this song lead me to understand, describing the empty spaces where those who left us used to smile and touch us.

  • Trouble was never about religion...... it was about life.... it was written when Cat was sick with TB,,,, enhanced with his life style.... his close friend at the time was Jimmi Hendrix...... need I say more

  • too much for all of them, trop pour tout ce que j'aime

  • What emerged from an 18 month recuperation from tuberculosis was a Soul that was replenished. A quiet summers rain of introspection. Flakes of snow fallen

across the flat roofs of Soho. The seeds were planted and the Gardner

pick the petals with a Guitar and songs of timeless beauty..........

  • @ABWEndon religon is going to be the end of all of us if we don't learn to let it go

  • Omg, this reminds me of the scene and it makes me wanna cry

  • Never get tired of listening to Cat or this song in particular....perfect compliment to the movie too.

  • If only this song lasted forever.

  • @rachem908 exactly! I love this song....that's my reason for listening...hope you enjoy it as much as i do. :)

  • You'll have to forgive me, it was a reaction to ABWEndon; it irritates me when someone fills the comment section of a song this good with christian propaganda and poorly understood theological rhetoric.

That said I'm guilty of perpetuating this argument, so I apologise.

  • the words of john lennon IMAGINE!!!!!!!!

  • @rachem908 what the hell thats so random... this song has nothing to do with religion

  • @ABWEndon I have spoken to a lot of christians, one of my favourites was an evangelical calvinist who took philosophy with me, definitely one of the brightest people I have met, and he knew the bible and christian theology like the back of his hand. Having said this no christian has been able to convince me that the Bible is the word of god, what makes you so sure it isn't a demon misleading you? Or some kind of cosmic joke.

What I'm trying to say is get off your high horse and let it be.

  • @ABWEndon I don't believe in God; that said he is a metaphysical entity and therefore can neither be proven nor disproven, at the end of the day it comes down to faith which is why we must all respect other people's beliefs and choices. If you do believe in a christian God you then have the duty of trying to prove various things: that the christian god is the true god, that he is a benevolent god, that he even cares at all...etc.

  • @Algydyce Agreed. But what has all that got to do with this song? Just enjoy it for what it is,a beautiful, heartfelt piece of music.

  • it almost make's me cry

  • Cat Stevens and Gordon Lightfoot, my top two folk heros.

  • this song is beautiful

  • @ABWEndon "...the correct path and there can be only one path." It is this type of thinking that has destroyed countless lives.

  • You gitz ruin a perfectly good song with talk of old tribal drivel that's taken for granted by the stupid, ignorant and insane. Chances are there is no "god(s)", get on with your life and BE HAPPY. That is if you can do that without your stupid deities. I'm in good company in my atheism: Einstein, Jefferson, Paine, Hume to name a very few.

Grow the fuck up or just shut the fuck up.

  • @ABWEndon WELL SAID.

  • @ABWEndon

You are clearly ignorant... Maybe just maybe your perception on "religion" is just that your own perception. Jesus in your life can be the savior but in mine he is just that a name and a face that is attached.

  • my favorite song from my favorite movie!

  • one the most peaceful and wonderful songs of all time

  • @AdamAlexRyan couldn't agree more

  • @AdamAlexRyan Oh, yes, wonderful peace song by a man who would later call for the death of nonbelievers. Ask Salman Rushdie how peaceful Cat Stevens is...

  • @zona999 Why don't you get your whinning backside out of here, nobody is interested in you snivelling anti-religious bigoted views. If you don't like his music, stop watching and let others enjoy, you anti muslim idiot

  • Yusuf is the best songwriter of the generation

  • true...he is amazing.

    along with Lennon/McCartney

  • Indeed

  • one of the best

he is not better than Dylan!

  • I also enjoyed Elliott Smith's cover of this song.

  • cat stevens had so much of an influence over elliot's music in general

  • @Reivaxbeastly

Ive just heard it...Its just...Never mind...

  • Just listened to it and they don't really add anything. How is that better than the guy who wrote it and put his heart into it?

  • If for some insane reason you do like that cover better..don't share it on a f'n Cat Stevens link. get out

  • Im a huge Panic fan, but this is the better version.

  • I'm Shelly Lyons Nee Duenweg and i am Katydid. I adore Yusef as a person and as a songwriter he is moving.

  • haha

  • Comment removed

  • Timeless classic. Cheers to Cat for all his great music.

  • katydids, can't believe this one got by me. (Well, yes I can judging by the date, but anyway...) I just wanted to say I really enjoyed what you did with the filters. I was reading some of the comments and thought how lucky you must be to know this truly gifted man. I hope he has seen and appreciates the work you do with his photos too. Elizabeth

  • Actually Harold and Maude was released in 1971 not '72

  • I don´t want no fight and I haven´t got alot of time.

I LOVE this song, it is beautiful

  • I know trouble like the back of my hand...and it seems to follow me....

  • very good sound.

  • Religion is the Philosophy of man..

There is no proof that God had anything to do with any books.

God gave man freewill and the wisdom to learn right from wrong.

Man creates his own Heaven or Hell by the choices they make in their lives.

With every action there is a reaction.

Religion was the first form of government using the fear of God to govern the people..

    To create order and control.

  • @88Opeth88 God is God

  • Right on!!!!

  • i have no religion>>

  • it´s the right way to live =)

  • Invariably non-Christians find it difficult to accept what Christians say because it sounds so harsh but that's due a lack of understanding, so I wanted to reassure that your Native Americans are not in hell! Why? Well, Abraham was considered righteous because he believed in God... which will apply to everyone who was alive "BC". Those who lived/are alive after Christ are in the same position as "BC-ers" UNTIL they hear the Gospel, when they have a chance to either accept or reject the message.

  • The Prophet Mohammed wasn't a liar, BUT he may have been deceived by a demon pretending to be Gabriel. If this is true (and no-one can ptove it isn't true because there is no irrevocable historical evidence to conclusively say otherwise) then the whole Islamic religion is based on a lie. Mohammed MAY have thought he had received true knowledge, but he may also have been deceived... which still makes him a godly man and I respect him for that. The demon who impersonated Gabriel is to blame.

  • @ABWEndon Actually, it was Xenu impersonating *the demon* impersonating Gabriel...

seriously, though... I remember how right-wing "christ"-ians always liked to mention that it was Abraham's "lack of faith" in conceiving Ishmael (Mohammed's forebear) by his handmaiden that was responsible for the whole of Islam. ("If it hadn't been for that one sin..." one would say). Sheesh... the whole "my religion is true, yours/theirs is a deception" is a joke, albeit a deadly one.

  • the puritans deliberatley starved to death Christian Indians out on deer island now an airport their vile right wing evil still lives on in pukey places like Massachusetts

AND wheaton, Illlinois. Katydid how could

natives be killed in north and south America and then be enslaved? I don't uinderstand can you explain;)))))))))

  • Religion was the first form of Governmet, It is the Therory and Philosophy of man not the word of God.

There is no proof that God had anything to do with the writings of any books.

It just those seeking power and control over the people by

using the fear of God to manipulate the will of the people.

  • I'm sure alot of people that are going through hard times right now because of this recession, can relate to this song.

    I sure can.

  • great musician, real poop as person

  • He released a 4 CD boxed set of his best hits in 2001 and gave the proceeds to victims' families of 9/11. He gives most of his money (and he still makes millions) to orphaned children who are victims or war, tsunamis, earthquakes, etc. He has won numerous peace awards for his unselfish endeavors and activism towards world peace. I could go on and on, but you get the picture. How can anyone say he is a real poop as a person?

  • katydid

how do you know this person has given any money too charity which organizations did he contribute to?,

  • I know him and his son Yoriyos. I support his charity organization "Small Kindness" which helps injured children, widows, and orphans of war and very poor victims of natural disasters. His activism in the cause of peace, education, and tireless efforts in bridging the gap of understanding of true Islam has earned him numerous international awards and honorary doctorates. He will be knighted by the queen sometime within the next 5 years. Now, tell me what you've done for peace.and charity?

  • katydidscorner,

a fair question. I gave money to charities World Vision, but now with the taxes being shifted from richie to stupid middle class and poor folks I can't afford it. how precisely does the infidel help these persons and how much does he support . does he support them for years he helps maybe iraqi armless child victims of british filth terror bombers when girls grow up and become women do you think they will be married? his charity just prolongs their agony

  • Giving yourself and your time to charity or for peace doesn't have to cost you a penny. You could donate 8 hours of your precious time per year and join a group such as Habitat for Humanity to help repair a poor elderly person's home. There are thousands of things you can do for the less fortunate which would only take a little of your time, not money. I don't know precisely how much money and time Yusuf gives to charity and peace efforts, but it's far more than you or I give.

  • Condoning the religious murder of Rushdie for practicing free speech far outweighs any good he has done unfortunately. FREE SPEECH MUST BE PROTECTED EVEN IF IT OFFENDS PEOPLES' RIDICULOUS NOTIONS OF GOD! FREE YOURSELF FROM ORGANIZED RELIGION AND ITS PROPENSITY TO CONDEMN ANYTHING THAT DOES NOT PROMOTE ITS POWER OR GLORY OR ABSURDITY.

  • Where did you read that Cat Stevens ever condoned the murer of anyone for free speech.

  • I don't belong to any organized religion. There's no doubt that like most Muslims he was angry over the Rushdie book depicting Mohammed as a liar and a fake prophet. But he has explained that he was naive and wrong about his comments and never did he call for the death of Rushdie. It was a mistake he will never be able to live down, but he regrets it nonetheless. Free speech is one thing, but Rushdie knew exactly what sort of violent reaction he'd get and that is exactly why he wrote it.

  • Rushdie KNEW the Muslim world would explode with anger, and he KNEW that anger would generate publicity so he could sell millions of copies of a mediocre book. He didn't give a damn who it would hurt. He got more than he bargained for since he had to go into hiding for 10 years, looking over his shoulder. I believe in free speech, too, but not hate speech that incites violence. That book dripped with venom and hatred for a man that 1/4 of the world loves and calls their prophet of God.

  • Brainwashed victims of organized religion kill for very little provocation. Rushdie's writings are critically acclaimed. Cat Stevens or whatever his name is now said the correct penalty for Rushdie's blasphemy is a fatwa/death. THIS IS CONDONING THE MURDER OF A HUMAN BEING because he slighted one of the major organized religions; ABSURD!

  • It doesn't matter what you or even I think about organized religion. They exist period! Christians killed my ancestors (Cherokee) if they refused to accept Jesus as their true god and savior. Actually Christians killed any natives from both N & S America if they refused to convert, then they enslaved them.

Yusuf was in a discussion of HYPOTHETICAL questions and answers. He gave a HYPOTHETICAL answer on what the Quran states as penalty for blasphemy...same as the penalty in the Bible.

  • Amazing how Mexican Indians became such religious Christians and Catholic. But, all organized religions are about getting more power and money, and yet many of them are non-profit orgs! Polygamy, pedophilia, war, violence is what organized religion stands for. Islam doesn't even try to hide the fact.

  • cat stevens became a muslim to worship god in the purest way..and because it is a peaceful religion and he is a peaceful man

  • Some people cannot handle uncertainty or loss of parents so they adopt strict religions as a security blanket which has caused horrific problems.

  • claiming this idea with that certainty makes you adopt a strict belief as a security blanket which reliefs your pain for your horrific problems that you already had.

  • Just finished rewatching Harold and Maude on TCM--one of the best films with one of the best soundtracks.

  • So how did he turn into a muslim condoning the fatwa on Rushdie?

  • Some people just can't live with the reality that we live in a godless universe where there is no meaning so they find something really silly to believe in.

  • Exactly how have you gained the knowledge, allowing you to so confidently conclude, that we live in a godless universe? Just wondering :-)

  • just like you: to believe not to believe should be the silliest belief. we do not claim that you have to believe something but you do. and you try to convince people believing that "the universe has no god". yeah in that point i agree with you: there is no god, but Him.

  • Cameron Crowe, hosted a Hal Ashby tribute held in June, featuring a showing of Harold and Maude,A clip of Mr. Ashby speaking about the collaboration between him and Cat was played and suddenly Yusuf apeared on stage and sang IN PERSON, Don't be Shy, and Miles from Nowhere, then Cameron stated:

"After a few words explaining that he hadn't played the next song in many years, Yusuf began playing "Trouble." There was an audible gasp from the crowd. Tears were heard all around me."

  • One of my favorite songs

  • I could listen to this song all day long! You rock, Cat Stevens!

  • Best voice of a singer/song writer of the era bar none. 5*****z Thanks. ~cg5

  • beautiful.

  • Amazing song.

  • awesome song

  • a four star film with one of the greatest movie soundtracks of all time, a film with heart and a soundtrack with soul

  • possibly my favourite lyrics and song eva

and the film is immense too

  • Doug Martsch from Built to Spill does a great cover of this too...

  • I really enjoyed the video. It's such a great song, I've always loved it.

  • Song always makes me sad! Elliott Smith did it really well.

  • love this song. Widespread Panic covers this sometimes and they do ole cat justice.

  • I had 'morning has broken' played at my grandmother's funeral.

  • OMG I love this song. I've been hearing it since I was four in the backseat while my dad and mom sat in front, singing along. Thank God for Mona Bone Jakon.

  • o ya harold and maude ftw

  • :) Great Song (:

  • beautiful song...

  • I'd want this to play at my funeral too...

but then I would want played " Well, if you want to sing out, sing out "

-just to cheer everyone up :P

  • Irish655, I'd say that was a good pick.

I would like that played at my funeral too.

And that is one of my fav parts of Harold and Maude, when Harold finds love and death aren't a game or an act.

  • My favorite song from harold and maude.

  • played it at my brothers funeral

  • great song..

heard it in a great movie

"a guide to recognizing your saints"

w/ Shia LaBeouf, Robert Downey Jr., and Channing Tatum..

  • Hear it in a better movie:

    "Harold and Maude"

w/ Ruth Gordon and Bud Cort

Directed by the peerless Hal Ashby

  • such a simple, powerful song... etched in my heart and soul forever

  • ...Such a simple yet great song.

  • ...without noise, just music and sound and feeling....

  • ...Ja Wohl! :o)

  • One of those that gets locked in the psyche.

  • yes, oh so true..

  • This is the personification of a true troubled soul=

  • P.S. I meant to say what a beautiful job you did on the production of the video.

    Thank you for posting it.

  • I AM a fan from way back "in the day".

Music is the soundtrack of our lives...the day my husband died....this is what came to my mind. We both loved Harold and Maude.

  • lazyhand, you've got that right! mark twain said it "I have been through some terrible things, some of which accually happened"

  • cat stevens is such a great artist, love h + m too!

  • Good song! Love the movie, Harold and Maude. I hope someone decides to post it here on YouTube soon! I have the movie on my iPod now! I watch it most every day! I wish I knew what Bud Cort thought of this movie, if he liked it or not, but I doubt anyone can get in touch with him now, he's like 60. Anyways, great video! You must have gone to a lot of work putting the pics together, and although I'm not really a fan, Cat's songs are great!

  • Chanson fabuleuse. Ma préférée car elle symbolise pour moi le film Harold et Maude qui est le plus beau film qu'il m'est été donné de voir.

Merci Mr Stevens pour cette composition.

  • Lazyhand, we can all get along, no matter what our beliefs. we just have to realize that everyone has everyone has the right to believe the way they want. No one has the right to dictate how everyone should believes. We all have our right to believe what feels right to us. we are all different, all over the world, that's why there are so many belief systems. But the Golden Rule to all of them is Do unto others as you'd have done to you.

  • could you tell me where the first still is from? i love that one!
