Orwell's major mistake was to project a future of fascism arising from the right when in fact all the evidence should have shown him that it was to come from the left and is now coming through non-violent methods like imposing thought-control and subservience to the regime through multiculturalism, diversity, political correctness, so-called 'equality' and a leftist interpretation of human rights. i.e. the communitarian-progressive model currently found in Britain

Those countries certainly could have deviated from the system but that would've only force the elite to come down on them even harder. That would've made the elite's desired form of transition more difficult, but the masses still would've been under the elite's control. The transition wouldn't have been as orderly as the elite wished, but it still would've taken place no matter what.

And I think it is peculiarly important because as one sees when looking back over history we have allowed in the past all those advances in technology which has profoundly changed our social and individual life weve allowed it to take us by surprise. I mean it seems to me that it was during the late 18th century early 19th century when the new machines were making possible the factory system.
It was not beyond the wit of man to look at what was happening and project into the future and maybe to forestall the really dreadful consequences which plagued England and most of western Europe and most of this country for about fifty or sixty years, and the horrible abuses of the factory
system and if a certain amount of forethought had been devoted to the problem at that time and if people had first of all found out what was happening and then used their imagination to see what might happen, and then had gone on to work out the means by which the worst applications of the new techniques would not take place and then I think western humanity might have been spared about three generations of utter misery which had been imposed on the poor at that time.
Now, I think what is obviously perfectly clear is that for the present these techniques are not being used except in an experimental way, but I think it is important for us to realize what is happening to make ourselves acquainted with what has already happened, and then use a certain amount of imagination to extrapolate into the future the sort of things that might happen.
I mean what might happen if these fantastically powerful techniques were used by unscrupulous people in authority. What on Earth would happen, what sort of society would we get?
@Skurataw
it reflects the consiousness of groups. they all act as "one being" against huxley.
laughing can be a sign of helplessness. or that they try to let it get away
by laughing about it because crying wouldn't work ether but puts down the
situation.

"...spared about three generations...."
This portion of his speech is worthy of being highlighted.
Notice he didn't say permanently preserved from but 'temorarily spared'.

"Speared" is the key word.
Not preserved from but speared.

There are so many things I want to say but I'm much too tired.
I never wanted to be a Rothschild.
How could people even feel the need to stand up to something that's already dead.
The narcissist and psychopath will never be happy. They can't be. THEY ARE THEIR PROBLEM.
