i had one of those when i was in the army... without the nade launcher though, but here we call it m75, that gun packs one hell of a punch and is by far the most accurate gun i have ever shot, the 7,62mm round can rip a guy to shreds, we had a guy shooting at the target on the shooting range, he hit the 5 inch stick holding the target and it broke into pieces, its much better than those bb gun m4's or m16... hell no to 5.56!!! 7,62 all the way
@uluatilla sounds like training rounds to me... the real bullets is much louder + i dont think he would be allowed to just fire nades and live rounds like that into nowhere... plus recoil in that baby is brutal with live rounds, had one myself in the danish army :D
This G3 is firing 5.56 and not the 7.62 it usually fires, otherwise this guy woulded have dislocated his shoulder while firing it in auto.
Here in Portugal we still use G3's and we use 5.56 on the firing range most times just for practise, and believe me, you can hear and above all FEEL the diference of both.

@Erlendds Look buddy... im telling you it's true, fire a G3 with 7.62 NATO rounds (not the 7.62x51mm CETME cartridge wich is already really fucked up) in auto and then fire it with 5.56mm, now matter how harsh you think the recoil is with 5.56 you will see what i mean... anyway, firing it with 5.56mm still kicks a bit but its more due to the bolt carrier wich is quite heavy, i once accidentaly dropped it on my foot while cleaning it and it hurted like hell... and sorry for the bad english

Awsome rifle... A little bit heavy but i wouldn't trade it for anything else... It's not so good at auto fire cause it's prone to jamming after 50 shots or so but small bursts and single fire will do the job for sure, it doesn't kick so bad you just have to hold it right
Personally It does give quite a kick, even when held right, hell even situated on the bipod. Ill agree with your other points, it's a lovely battle rifle, and single fire does get the job done as is !

@xxxCRAZYLOVExxx the g 3 is older, and its round is heavy, and creates alot of kick, they wanted something more manageable for the soldiers, both with recoil and weight. most countries of nato use the 5.56 mm nato round in there weapons, seeing as though special forces need to have good mobility, and this heavy gun with its ammo thats like three times the weight of a 5.56 would be a burden to an average sized man, a tough soldier would be better with this gun if they could manage recoil/weight

My father used a G3A3 in Guiné War (Portugal Colony War) but as far as i know, the g3a3 is a modified and improved version of the famous sturmgewehr 44 (Hitler's favourite weapon) :S but i can be wrong. Any way dispise its old model, it's still very powerfull. Had one in my hands 4 days ago.

Yes, firing a full powered .308 fully auto will knock the soldiers aim around, thats one of the reasons why the M14s were taken out off the frontline.
It overpentrates and .308s are known to do a lot of that and they hurt civilians, the British had lots of accounts with that. So yes, that penetration is a bad thing. Like how you would not use a .308 for a home invasion in a urban house
You cannot compare a battle rifle with an assault rifle, thats apples and oranges, different roles.

An authentic German made G3 is reliable, very reliable. Any AK series rifle is really reliable (as long as its a decent build). Its ok to stand back and look at this like just from a rifles action, if thats what your trying to look at it like.
Well thats ok, its just that some people confuse the use of battle rifles like the G3, FN FAL, AR10, and so on with the use of an assault rifle. So many people think a AR10 or FN FAL is an assault rifle, thats where most of the problems come from.

The national guard in my country, El Salvador used the g-3 that is what they call it, they said it was a good, but not good as an assault rifle because is too heave, in full automatic for combat against the guerrilla they say the canon used to bend because the heat, but i tell you when you see a national guard with a g-3 rifle you show respect to those men.
@Denniboy26 Naja es wird immernoch in Afrika und anderen Regionen der Welt eingesetzt aber die meisten Armeen sind zu Sturmgewehren in 5,56mm übergegangen weil sie leichter sind und man durch die kleinere Patrone mehr Munition bei gleichem Gewicht mitnehmen kann. Außerdem ist der Rückstoß geringer was die 5,56er besser kontrollierbar macht grade bei automatischen Feuer. Da wir durch die Genfer Konvention keine Hohlspitz munition auf Menschen (In Kriegen) abfeuern dürfen, ist die 5.56 einfach nicht gut genug gegen ungepanzerte Ziele.
Polizisten haben dieses Problem nicht, HS ist standart bei Polizei einheiten, da es besser stoppt und nicht durchschlägt...
Anyone interested in the G3 should look into how H&K designed the bolt. Normally with a medium caliber round like the 7.62, the pressure in the breech is too much when the round first fires, so the bolt must stay in place until the pressures drop low enough. The AR uses locking lugs, but the G3 uses simple roller locks that don't require complicated pistons or rotating bolts. While I am always a fan of American made products, it is this ingenuity that makes H&K my foreign favorite.
This model is also used, or at least WAS used, by the Swedish forces, under the name of AK4 (automatkarbin 4 = Automatic rifle 4). The swedish forces today is equipped with the newer AK5, the swedish, green variant of FN FNC. But there is still alot of AK4's in use :)

AK4 is what we call it in Sweden. It was my gun when I was in the marines.
We did some minor improvements on it.
It´s a wicked gun that can shoot trough almost 50 cm. of concrete. Woowie!

@RyanR3volution why not? It definately can be compared in terms of reliability, quality and accuracy. The G3 has the same, if not better accuracy than the M16. Reliability and quality?... this is where the M16 totally sucks, when compared to german rifles. Just look how much improvements where neccessary on both. M16 since 1960? More than 40!! G3 since 1955? 3 or 4! And the G3 handles mud and dirt as good as the AK. Every soldier with G3 as standard rifle will that.

You cannot compare a battle rifle with an assault rifle. One fires a 7.62x51 full powered rifle round, one fires an intermediate round.
You cannot have soldiers armed with battle rifles, they are uncontrollable on full auto and over penetrate.
The fact that you don't understand the difference between the absurdity of comparing them, really makes your opinion on firearms, questionable.

Yes, firing a full powered .308 fully auto will knock the soldiers aim around, thats one of the reasons why the M14s were taken out off the frontline.
It overpentrates and .308s are known to do a lot of that and they hurt civilians, the British had lots of accounts with that. So yes, that penetration is a bad thing. Like how you would not use a .308 for a home invasion in a urban house
You cannot compare a battle rifle with an assault rifle, thats apples and oranges, different roles.

@RyanR3volution AK47? Are you joking? The AK47 was not produced after 1949 anymore and is fucking rare. You are talking about the AKM (called AK47 by amateurs), wich was a improved version of the 47. Read it up, you will hardly find an AK47 outside of a museum.I know people who served in both german armies, the communist east german army (with AK74, wich is as reliable as the AKM) and after reunification in the west german army (with G3) and these people tell something totally different than you

Its not the same type of rifle, why are you comparing the two, your comparing a swiss armey knife with another pocket knife. Comparing the AK47 and G3 is stupid because they are not in the same class of rifles, therefore they cannot be compared.

An authentic German made G3 is reliable, very reliable. Any AK series rifle is really reliable (as long as its a decent build). Its ok to stand back and look at this like just from a rifles action, if thats what your trying to look at it like.

Well thats ok, its just that some people confuse the use of battle rifles like the G3, FN FAL, AR10, and so on with the use of an assault rifle. So many people think a AR10 or FN FAL is an assault rifle, thats where most of the problems come from.

My point was only quality and reliability (tech.) to show, that both are comparable in some specifications, but of course not in general. Accuracy may be a grey zone for comparison, due to the cartridges of both types have different ballistic parameters. I just have some problems to explain it in english (my english sucks) and i think that's why you didn't understand what i was meaning.

The national guard in my country, El Salvador used the g-3 that is what they call it, they said it was a good, but not good as an assault rifle because is too heave, in full automatic for combat against the guerrilla they say the canon used to bend because the heat, but i tell you when you see a national guard with a g-3 rifle you show respect to those men.

@Denniboy26 Naja es wird immernoch in Afrika und anderen Regionen der Welt eingesetzt aber die meisten Armeen sind zu Sturmgewehren in 5,56mm übergegangen weil sie leichter sind und man durch die kleinere Patrone mehr Munition bei gleichem Gewicht mitnehmen kann. Außerdem ist der Rückstoß geringer was die 5,56er besser kontrollierbar macht grade bei automatischen Feuer. Für eine Armee ist es schon besser wenn jeder mit dem Gewehr zurechtkommt und nicht nur die guten Schützen.

Und dadurch das die 5.56mm Munition absoluter Rotz ist gehen nun wieder die alten G3s an die Truppe zurück, da diese einen Taliban einfach effektiver aufhalten, als so ne lumpige 5.56...
Da wir durch die Genfer Konvention keine Hohlspitz munition auf Menschen (In Kriegen) abfeuern dürfen, ist die 5.56 einfach nicht gut genug gegen ungepanzerte Ziele.
Polizisten haben dieses Problem nicht, HS ist standart bei Polizei einheiten, da es besser stoppt und nicht durchschlägt...

Anyone interested in the G3 should look into how H&K designed the bolt. Normally with a medium caliber round like the 7.62, the pressure in the breech is too much when the round first fires, so the bolt must stay in place until the pressures drop low enough. The AR uses locking lugs, but the G3 uses simple roller locks that don't require complicated pistons or rotating bolts. While I am always a fan of American made products, it is this ingenuity that makes H&K my foreign favorite.

This model is also used, or at least WAS used, by the Swedish forces, under the name of AK4 (automatkarbin 4 = Automatic rifle 4). The swedish forces today is equipped with the newer AK5, the swedish, green variant of FN FNC. But there is still alot of AK4's in use :)

Die Amis haben ihn den Russen uebergeben, nachdem sie Exemplare der letzten Neuheiten mit ins Heimatland nahmen, deren Feinheiten noch heute in ihren M16 zu finden sind.

Hugo Schmeisser wurde nach mehr als 10 jaehgriger Gefangenschaft entlassen und kehrte schwerkrank in seinen Heimatort zurueck, wo er kurz darauf an seinen Erkrankungen der Russischen Gefangenschaft starb.
Kalashnikov bekommt die Blumen.
