  • absolutely superb video, you have an excellent vantage point where you are.

  • Cool

  • great video

  • If I saw a storm like that I'll be crapping my pants and hide...

  • Welcome to Pittsburgh:

If you don't like the weather,

    wait 5 minutes.

  • @RCT3rox well this video has clearly proven you wrong as this thunderstorm is atleast 10 minutes long :P

  • 1:40 - like a hell..:D

  • I live in dormont. was at my friends house in dormont up by St, Bernards church. he got up went to the kitchen and said DUDE! come quick. black wall of clouds. lol we sat on his roof till it was too close. remember this like it happened yesterday. by far the most extreme storm i ever seen.

  • What a brilliant view! I wanna live right there!

  • There was one tornado warning in parts of Pittsburgh because there was a tornado spotted on the south side.

  • This is one of the best thunderstorm videos i've seen on YouTube

    Great upload

  • GOD I HATE THUNDER!!!!

  • Cool

  • I searched a long time to find this video, I kept finding videos of "diet" thunderstorms. Thanks so much for uploading this! For once, a real thunderstorm.

  • and i thought we had some wild hunderstorms here in nevada

  • I hate thunder ..

  • Awesome video to bad the sound is a little bad with the wind blowing around into the mic, nonetheless you can get a sense of the power of the thunder.

  • The power of Yahuah! "God",,,,,,,

  • My biggest fear is thunder.. it makes me frozen in place and i sometimes cry. I Love rain and lightning, just not thunder. I am watching this to try and face my fear.. even though its just a video.. ok.. here i go.. ;-;

  • 1:40 dam thats close

  • sound velocity= 360 meters per second

  • dam that crack of thunder at 1:06 sounds like it may have been a tad bit loud lol

  • 1:38 AWESOME !!!!

  • i know that thunder storms are dangerous and they cause a lot of damage and harm. but for me this is better than watching a movie... :)

  • 5:53 fuckin hell :O

  • 1:42 - 1:50 = EAR RAPEE

  • i have some advise for u richardsharp,im not saying your video was bad but next time something like this storm happens again u should put tape over the holes to wear the microphone is so u don't get the wind coming in and messing up the audio cuz its really annoying in this video

  • The power of YAHUAH!!! "God".......

  • omg.

  • this is the best storm video ive seen - ans such a clear picture!! awesome

  • man sometimes mothernature is a son of a bitch

  • Rich,

How close do you think the lightning was?

  • @FireFlamesrocks the near strike was about 1.5 miles from the camera. It blew out a sub station on rt 50 which is about 1.5 mile from where the camera was located.

  • @RichardSharp wow man! I hope everyone was okay!

  • @RichardSharp very frequent lightning first strike was close

  • @RichardSharp very frequent lightning first strike was close at 1:39 it strikes the tree 6 times

  • @RichardSharp very frequent lightning first strike was close at 1:39 it strikes the tree 6 times 6:34 double strike 600 yds away

  • 6:39 nice thundersound

  • Thank you, Great video I enjoyed seeing who long it took for the sound to reach the camera after each lightening bolt.

  • Jesus if you converted this from original ya put the volume on too loud distortion to smeg!!!

  • dude i see rotation in this video

  • @MIKE2077ful I know! i saw it too!

  • @FireFlamesrocks u wuldnt want to be at my house reacently cuz i live in middle tennessee(murfreesboro ,rutherford county) rrly RRLY sever thunderstorms hav came through and ive had lightning strike in my bak yard once and in my neibor hood twice

  • @MIKE2077ful same here Arkansas is getting battered!

  • I REMEMBER THIS AWESOMEEEEE

  • That was an impressive line. It sent us to our basement.

  • 6:34 most closely lightning

    1:40 most powerful lightning

  • WOW! Awesome power.

  • This is my favorite part of a storm. Before any rain falls, the wind, the thunder, the lightning. I especially love the singing birds in the background too. :D

  • lol so does this relate to the thundergun in black ops?

  • I LOVE THIS! listen to the birds singing...

  • If you fast forward you can actually see it spinning like a tornado.

  • I remember this day. 3 storms rolled through and i was outside videotaping them all day. Lol.

  • If it takes 5 seconds for the thunder to come, is it 5km away then ?

  • @Flackerr

The speed of sound is about one kilometer in three seconds or approximately one mile in five seconds.

  • this came all the way from lebanon

  • this is so cool

  • holy lightning and thunder from 1:35 till 1:50

  • @frogqueen84 you should try listening to that part full volume everything with apple earphones in its blady loud

  • @frogqueen84 if you pause it then scroll in this mode u can see it in slow motion...and it's even more fantastic

  • سبحان الذي يسبح الرعد بحمده والملائكة من خيفته

  • thanks for posting this video

  • notice on the left that one cloud that is lighter than the other one is slowly spinning.....

  • @RCT3rox I noticed that too. Look just to the right of it and it looks like there's inflow feeding into it too. There probably should have been a tornado warning on this storm lol.

  • i live about 2 miles away form Pittsburgh, BUT the is in 1st place at being the worst storm I've ever scene.

  • Superb Storm, great video capture

  • Thanks man, this is just amazing video... exactly what I was looking for... no voices just thunders and nature....BRAVO!

Do you have some more? Here in London is crap no lightnings :(

  • @krenkson london see's better storms than the northwest though lol iam glad iam scared of thunder and lightning =)

  • simply perfect

  • Mt. Lebanon was just trying to float away.

  • UUUU thunder, makes me heart race......somebody hold me.......

  • What a Beautiful Storm !! Congratulations !

  • If you watch this video in fast forward, you can actually see the clouds circling in a tornado-like fashion. I'm surprised they didn't have us under a tornado warning tfor this one. Without a doubt one of the craziest storms I've ever been witness to!

  • I love storms like this that spit tons of CG's out of the shelf cloud / rain-free base. They are rare. With most storms the lighting bolts are mostly inside the rain so it isn't nearly as photogenic.

  • looks like funnel trying to form was this tornadic?

  • @phunkblister

I don't see a funnel but there's definitely some rotation with a nice inflow notch.

  • Rich

What part of Mt Lebanon you in? I am in Castle Shannon next to McDonalds on Mt Lebanon Blvd.

  • @waggeo99 This view is from The Bower Hill Apartments facing due west, looking across Scott Twp to Kerwin Heights, across I-79 and on to Ohio.

  • @RichardSharp

My grandparents live there. They face Birdland aswell. You get some prety nice views of sunsets up there as well!

  • I can say one thing here in Pittsburgh we don't get as many storms as other areas but when they hit they can be severe n destructive. I still remember the tornado of 1998 on Mt. Washington saw it hit from teh top of Kaufmann's

  • 1minute 40 secs wow!!!!

  • one of the best storm vids on youtube.....5*****.

  • Nice catch!!!! I'd like to film some storms here in Montreal. We don't have often storms like that but they are as scary as that....

  • wtff so loud >.>

  • amazing video mate, i didnt watched it through first time, second time i just lied back and listend

  • I love the vid shame lightning storms nt so big in uk.

  • I remember a few storms did have tornado warnings.

  • Nice storm!!!!!*s

  • the was the scariest day of my life i live in pittsburgh and i was at kennywood that day i just got off the thunder bolt and it started to happend i was a big mess!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I loooove thunderstorms :D I recorded one yesterday and I live in the south of england :D It was awesome! It was right above our house, but only lasted about 20 minutes :p I hope we get some more.

  • Great view of an amazing storm.

  • Wow.

  • The strike to the lower left around 5:35 looked like it was very close. Did it strike your neighbors house?

  • @SixFeetUndr101 If you pause at 5:50 and press pause / play repetedly, you can see it actually did hit the tree!, THat's aweomse

  • I live near Greensburg, PA and these storms did a ton a damage in our area. Storms like this are almost hypnotic, this was the first time that a storm actually scared me.

Great video, I took some too but it isnt as good. Great work!

  • Pittsburgh is near to the Ohio state line isn't it?

This is amazing, thunderstorm will allways be amazing, as long as non gets struck by lightning.

    -Norway

  • Yes, Pittsburgh is near the Ohio state line. The view if the camera is due west towards Ohio about 25 miles as the crow flies.

  • great video XXXXX!!!!

  • it looks as if there is a supercell activity developing in the centre of the video.

  • did this storm have a tornado warning

  • As I recall it did not.

  • With the changing climate and weather patterns, Pittsburgh can definitely look forward to more significant tornadic activity in the very near future.

  • tore my mind a new poop shute

  • I was right freakin in the middle of it . The best storm I've experienced to date...

  • This happened on my son birthday. I was so mad.

  • Wow, this is what's a T-storm is all about, great lightning strikes and lots of big thunders, i realy loved this one.

Hopefly we will have such a t-storm here in Holland this year, we had some last year and it was awsum.

Thanks for uploading this one, i give it a 10+.

    Greetings from Holland.

  • Great video. Where were you taking this from? I took my family down into the basement for this one.

  • im glad to live in norway!Scary film

  • its not that bad i mean some summers it is... i live on the east side of pittsburgh

  • Wow!! Amazing deadly lightning.

  • Amazing storm perfect!!!!!!!!! , I am brasil Feira de Santana Bahia, Richard Sharp

  • Ahh, this video is beautiful, wooow..

I'm from Hungary(Europa), but we do not have such a thing is great, and "nice" storms.

I think, was after a large rain, because it is a supercell.

I love the USA.:)This is just incredibly good video. And sorry my bad English,I started to learn English, but I love it.

  • That was fantastic :D Check out the cg at 3:10; there's a secondary flash from the ground a second or so later just to the right of the strike, guessing that's power lines struck. Excellent footage.

  • That's an awesome supercell!

  • This is one huge gym-dandy of a Tstorm you got..very nice view...excellent capture of many of the CG-bolts...especially the one at '' 05:49 ''.... My only teenie-weenie ''complaint'' was the wind blowing into the camcorder's mike drowning out some of the nice thunder. BTW my own videos..I always close my windows when filming so the wind won't drown out the thunder.. my 7/28/89-Tstorm's got as much awesome lightning and great thunder too..very much like this AWESOME video..here from 6/17/09.

  • i remember all this every thing in my neiborhood flooded

  • I live in Pittsburgh. And this storm was intense.

  • holy shit the sound's on 1:42-1:55 are fukin cool

  • yea

  • man it sounds like a frikin war

    awesome video though :))

  • i can remember this

  • Absolutly breath taking! Wish I could have been there!

  • At 3:10 it looks like the strike may have takenout power. Look on the ground at the time of the strike and several seconds after you will see several flashes on the ground.

  • You are correct. I went back and took one second at 3:10 and slowed it down and you can indeed see the white light from what appears to be a ground explosion. Look at the Video Responses for a better view.

  • Rotation was reported with some of these storms that day.

  • did anyone see that redish lightning at 6:53??? it was juss like a flash of it.

  • Thunderstorms are from GOD, enjoy his work.

  • that one lightening strike around 1:41 .. striked in the same spot like 4 times hahaha nuts!

  • This was among the Scariest weather related days in SW PA, in years, June 2008 Father's day, A tornado was forming over my house, but it just stopped rotating and disapeared, No pictures, but i was shaking so much I probably Could not take one anyway....that was the scariest ever since being in a Microburst

  • The second waves of that storm scared the crap out of me. Clouds started to shoot up in the sky and swirl above our neighborhood, lightning striking the road, and the house shaking from thunder.

I consider you brave for actually filming it. haha.

  • Excellent Video !

  • richard we really did get bad thunderstorms in pittsburgh and it was bad on that day and you make a video when you see one coming one have a nice weekend.

  • wow @ 1:40 - 1:50

  • no , i have no idea who that is lol, but still cool tho

  • this is amazing i filmed part of it from my deck too urs is good quality

  • More thunderstorms are possible from Thursday June 25-Sunday June 28th as the jet stream separates very hot air to the south and drier cooler air in the north!

We will have to wait and see about wind shear and instability.

  • freekin awesome video man, you can see the cloud rotation, i'm from the latrobe area, westmoreland county, storm there was insane

  • Did you know that Dr Greg Forbes from the Weather Channel is from Latrobe?

  • I am from Canonsburg, Washington County and this vid gets 5 stars! We had a lot of lightning but nothing like this!

I love videotaping storms and I am wondering where you shot this video?

  • I shot this from my apartment balcony located in Mt. Lebanon. The view is from Mt. Lebanon towards the West with lightening strikes hitting area of Kirwin Heights PA

  • AT 6:36 its scary man

  • wow man great footage

  • great job on the thunder storm we get some thunder storms here some times 5***** you all have a great weekend and stay safe

  • Im in Mckees Rocks we got it bad but not as bad as east Pittsburgh and Turtle Creek

  • I love Pittsburgh

  • Lived in Pittsburgh all my life, moved to Phoenix last year, I completely miss this stuff. awesome, good job.

  • Where was this? its awsome how you can watch the cloud rotation... nice work!

  • The view is from Mt. Lebanon to the West. The strikes appear to be in Kirwin Heights PA.

  • I was at home when it happened in West Mifflin but that was crazy part of my basement flooded from that!

  • nice video. these storms were intense. i was loving it!

  • was a wicked night

was out in south side, north side and all over

  • HOLY SHIT. cant believe you got this on camera! lightning fascinates me [geography is my fave subject lol] but wow we dont get any where near this in dublin.

  • I'm in Penn Hills on the Verona/Oakmont side and it wasn't bad at all for me.

  • I was just in this it now ended thats sweet
