Hip Hop dancing was called Buck Dancing in the early 1900's were Blacks down South did those same break dancing moves for money. They have been filmthat show in the early 19oo's show them doing break dance moves from the Documentary" Watch Me Dance. Capoeira's orgins can be traced by to Angola went slaves were impoted to Africa. So how you slice, it's a Black ( African Thang)
Baby, tell me something I DON'T know... I'm not musicologygirl for nothing. I DO know that in the CLIP (you're right, I haven't seen the movie, cuz its not out!) it says that everything traveled South, influencing culture there, which is what I commented on. If you want people to know you're informed, you gotta put that out there. Your clip doesn't do your knowlege justice. And I NEVER forget about the 'Ricans! Don't you forget about the Hatians in Florida!
Uh, you got it a little twisted...breaking and hip hop dance BEGAN with Brasilian immigrants in NY doing CAPOEIRA - folks from US didn't bring the dance to Brasil - we brought the music there and adapted their moves into the culture here.
I don't have it twisted you haven't seen the movie in the movie I mention the early capoeiristas from New York like Jelon etc. who influenced alot of break dancers I'm a capoeirista and mma fighter and instructor myself. Now while it has capoeira moves in the break dance it's part of african american culture, black americans invented break dancing along with pop locking the robot etc. and let's not forget about the Puerto ricans from the Bronx.
When is this doc coming out? I definitely want to see it. Any stuff on Salvador in there? I'm a filmmaker myself and was interested in doing something on hiphop in brazil, but more on the hip hop youth groups.

Você é brasileiro?
You are Brazilian?

Pop and locking had nothing to do with capoeira. It came originally from California, Oakland and L.A.
