  • For a MRI scan neck, do you know how much time it takes? Also do anyone knows if the scanner cause dizziness? thx.

  • @MrAlexdive usually takes about 20 minutes... depends on if you are getting contrast or not. The scanner should not cause any dizziness, but people do tend to get up feeling dizzy from laying down for that amount of time.

  • @envy71383 thx!

  • does it make a noise

  • @tasha489 Me too! I'm scared also :(

  • i'm also having one of these at 3:15 today (Thursday jan, 2012 12:19) and i am only 12 but yes it looks like something out of avatar!

  • I'm having one of these in the next year or so that's why i am here lt looks like something out of the movie avatar lol

  • I just found out today that I have to get an mri scan to check for a tumour in my pituitary gland. I'm so scared, it's not for a month.. I wish I wasn't so anxious but I can't help it :(

  • I had an MRI due to thoracic spine pain. Can muscle strains and tears be seen on these scans?

  • My 8-year old daughter had an MRI just a couple of day ago, she was very scared but did wonderfully well and was able to lie very still without having any sedation - she's been practising meditation at school! She took a CD in with her, which the radiologist played, so do that if you're able and listening to your favourite music might help. Hope you're OK and good luck. I was able to go in with her too so you may be able to take one of your parents in if you wish.

  • Over the past two days I had two MRIs (one for my brain and one for my lower lumbar) and despite everything you hear it was no big deal. The noise isn't too bad and as anothe poster said, after awhile the noise itself seems almost relaxing. The music they gave me could have been louder but still I got through both fine. :)

  • * the questions are in the mri

  • im getting an mri today. its for a study. they ask me pokemon questions for 15 minutes, and i get a $20 gift card for doing it. :D

  • why did my mri take 40 mins?

  • I just found out today I need an MRI. I am 14. I am really scared and don't want to get one.

  • @musiccrazy10021 Dont worry bud ive got one today and have had 4 in the past just go to sleep while listening to music, after a while the sound is quite relaxing, they give you a button if anything is wrong. Btw im 16.

  • @musiccrazy10021 I have just had one - full spine, there is nothing to be scared of just try and stay calm. You have a buzzer if you want them to stop.

  • I might be getting an MRI soon, I'm insanely claustrophobic and I can NOT handle being strapped down or restrained.. I had a couple ct scans and even during those I was panicking the entire time.

  • @guitargod909 I'm an MRI tech myself and deal with patients all the time who feel the same way; you are not alone that's for sure. I suggest having your doctor prescribe you a one time dose of something you can take in pill form prior to your study (30 minutes before you go into the machine i'd say). That or ask for a blindfold, that works on some people as well. Bring a CD of your favorite music i'm sure they can play it. Good luck, it'll be just fine. Mind over matter.

  • Can someone explain how the headphones can be used in the scanner. Surely the headphones have metal components in them, the cable at least will have a conductive metal to pass electricity, surely that would go flailing about in the immense magnetic field?. Wonder how they do that...

  • @1wibble2 I am an MRI tech. The headphones are either of a non metal configuration or any metal used is a compatible metal. Not all forms of metal are attracted to the magnet

  • @NipplesTheClown83 To generate sound waves requires some kind of mechanical movement which usually means either using a real magnet or an electro-magnet system to move the diaphragm inside the headphones. Even if they used silver and such non-magnetic materials, thats the part that really impresses me. Wonder if there's a website that goes into detail about their construction...

  • I GOT AN MRI SCAN TODAY LOLZ

IT WAS FINE BUT I GOT DIZZY LOL

  • @epicperson991 CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL

  • I've had two already and have to have another one tommorow

  • getting one tomorrow to see why i have VISUAL SNOW

  • i had a mri and i dont know what happend but i had pee all over me and a bruse on my arm . what will happen if you pee in a m.r.i machine ?

  • @christalrose07 You get wet

  • Why do you wear headphones? lol

  • @BusterPaddyYT It,s insanely noisy!!

  • @legolarsi123 No music? :(

  • @BusterPaddyYT They wear headphones because the scanner makes really loud noises and so they reduce the noise level, and the headphones are also used to communicate with the person in charge of operating the scanner- whom should be in an adjacent room watching from a window... Source: I got a scan today.

  • I got one when I was 14.

  • @AmyLee2020 I'm getting one Wednesday.I'm currently 13

  • @NobodyXChallenger You're only 13 and having to deal with MRI's? I hope you are alright. And i'm sure you will be better in no time.

  • I have to get one tomorrow :(( for my fractured legg doing gymnastics xD

  • Makes a lot of noice

  • WHAT COURSE do you study in university to be a radiographer?

  • @FeelFree3 Diagnostic Radiography

  • Will I have to lay straight ....cuz I can't

  • I get them all the time

  • What is the pump thingy shes holding im getting one on my brain will i have one of those<3 x

  • @peytonbaby2010 just wondering how come you have to have one on your brain? I have to have 1 on my jaw to see if I have arthritis

  • @loveDaisyhamster I had one because im 12 and ive got childhood absence epilepsy and they was just making sure epilepsy is what ive got<3 Im getting my results back in october x

  • @peytonbaby2010 yeah I am 12 too I got juvinile idropathic arthritis anywayz good luck with your results hope its not to serious

  • @loveDaisyhamster I got my results back thanks they arte all clear but now they think i have juvinile absence epilepsy:/

  • This was great. I live in France, am going for an MRI scan in 2 days, and have been told absolutely nothing!

  • i need to know how to get rid of it and because i have dizzynesses

  • I'm getting a head mri done this coming monday. Looks exactly like the CT scan though. Are they pretty much the same thing?

  • i have one tomorrow but only on my knee so will i go all the way in??

  • @deanrow89 i have to have a mri today on my left knee. about a month ago i hurt it. and now in a knee brace.

  • Why in the world would anyone dislike this video. These guys went through the trouble of explaining a little bit about something, that's more than the rest of us will do. And thanks for whoever uploaded it :)

  • thanks for this video my little sis 8yrs old is going for one next week & seeing this made it not so scary :)

  • What's the thing you gave her with the headset that she could squeeze i guess?

  • @valheartscsr

What he handed her was a 'panic button' in case she starts feeling something wrong. It's a sensitive squeeze-ball button, which sounds a horn to alert the technician. They can then communicate directly through the headphones to the patient, who can respond via a (hidden) microphone.

  • The only thing that really bothers me when i have an MRI is when it is of my head and my head has to be put in that restraint to reduce movement, that and when i get an itchy foot or something after about 5 minutes of the scan starting lol

  • For everyone who is having MRI scans in the future, there is nothing to be afraid of. I had about 5 or 6 last year because I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Its just loud noises and ur in and ur back out. Simple as that :)

  • i have to go in the other way mine take 1 hour to 1 hour 30 and i haveto have them like all the time i been having then since i was born so yeahhh

    im used to it

    addd med

  • GO TO CREATEIDEASHERE(DOT)BLOGSPOT(DOT)COM.....FOR INFORMATION ON HOW TO READ X RAYS, HOW TO FIGURE OUT WHATS WRONG WITH THE PATIENT, ETC

  • I hated every second of my MRI today lmao

  • I got an MRI today! I felt a little bit closed in at the start, but after five seconds of deep breathing, I was calm. I got to watch Futurama, and it was awesome! They spoke to me during the whole process.

    It was pretty fun actually.

  • it looks like a toilet roll :D

  • I hate these things...I had to get one done a few years ago and it was so loud and it was hard for me to stay still because I have ADHD/ADD and love to move. My foot was twitching like mad throughout the whole thing and my Mom was laughing at me afterwards. ^_^

  • Just had an MRI scan an Hour AGO !

  • what would be for the public safest distance from mri scanner?

  • @superchief1234 For a normal person? You, well not "you" specifically, could technically stand near the MRI scanner when the scan is ongoing. Other than that I'm not sure what you're asking.

  • Can Any Genuis tell me the factors that can influenc signal intensity in MRI???

  • I need one tomorrow ughh.

  • Like

  • ive got to have an M.R.I. scan on my brain next week....i am dreading it!...my last experience was awful and i had to get off of the table :( i have been to my G.P. and he has given me some Diazepam to take before i have my scan.....still doesn't help when I'm sh**ting bricks :(

  • What really helped me during my MRI scan is this. When you lie on the table about to go in, close your eyes and do not open them until the scan is complete. Not seeing yourself going inside means you have no image of yourself being in that small space. I do not like small spaces so this helped me get through it with ease. You may feel panic when you are on the table about to go in the machine. I felt it, trust me. I just took a deep breath and closed my eyes.

  • Get to point 1.40 in the clip - is that lady wearing a ring?!?!

  • I just had one of these and it was for a brain scan I was petrified I was offered no words of comfort it was a case of being a nuisance and the cage apparatus over my face was over whelming !!! I am claustrophobic and I had no music piped through the ear phones it was a horrible experience and one i dont want ever again ...!!!

  • I am 51 and had my first MRI scan yesterday. I just wore my regular clothes. It was an upper body scan so my legs weren't inside. I was actually very comfortable. Were it not for all the noise I could have taken a nap. Visits to the dentists are scarier than an MRI scan. But I'm not claustrophobic in fact I found the small space comforting and that probably helped a lot. If you are claustrophobic, you might want to keep your eyes closed and be sure to have them pipe in music that you really like

  • So for everyone 157 cm (5’2’’) and taller, every scan below the chest can be done that way. Also, your patients will enjoy the most open lumbar scan in the market. This is CT-like comfort married to true high-field power which wasn’t possible before in any conventional Open system

  • MAGNETOM Espree with I-class offers a spacious 30 cm (one foot) of headroom

and a 55,5 cm (1’10’’) patient gap. That means: More headroom, more legroom, more elbowroom. Particularly claustrophobic or anxious patients are more relaxed throughout their examination. Thanks to MAGNETOM Espree’s short 125 cm magnet, 60% of all applications can be done with the patients head outside of the Open Bore.

  • hi i had 11 mri scans my tip is to go to a place that has the MAGNETOM Espree 1.5T with a 70cm bore ,MAGNETOM Verio 3T + 70 cm bore + Tim,MAGNETOM Aera 1.5T 70cm bore or MAGNETOM Skyra 3T 70cm bore the Open Bore MRI

  • I was pretty scared until after watching this video! I hope we do get to wear robes!

  • imm 14 and havein a mri scan tomorrow ..im soo scared :(!!!!

  • im gnna have one in 30 mins. my stupid mom just made me nervous

  • I hade to go in to a MRI this morning but I didn't have head phones like that no I had to have little ear plugs that didn't even work.

  • I have to get an mri and what happens because i have metal braces

  • i should totally just in that siemens

  • Why dont they put you to sleep?? I would vomit in there!!!

  • Why would you freak out?? Nothing wrong, I'm going in one next month to do some tests and they will see if my brain reacts normal.

  • that lady looks so calm going in there!!!!! I would be freaking out!!!!

  • @Henpups

Why freaking out? It's a MRI, not a microwave oven.

  • I had an MRI scan last year and it is not well lit or spacious. I was 18 and I still was as nervous as hell!!!!!

  • my mri was ALOT more inclosed and i was facing the other way so first in was my head and i did NOT get a pillow

  • yeah first time not so bad except for the noise, they had cloth over my eyes. otherwise i had no idea so confining..second time was horrifying without the cloth,,

and the noise is very painful..its what your enemys would use 4 torture lol

  • I had a scan when I was 12. I actually giggled quite a bit because i thought it was cool. they said it was gonna be loud, but it wasn't half as loud as my little sisters! :P

  • @bambisbear15 It was for my brain so I had the cage thing on me. but I was entertained by the machine and almost felt like taking a nap in it!

  • @bambisbear15 It was for my brain so I had the cage thing on me. but I was entertained by the machine and almost felt like taking a nap in it! My mom said "So theres the proof that you at least have a brain!"

  • LOL, anybody noticed the "radioactive" tattoo the technician's got on his left wrist? Either he ADORES his job, or the band Biohazard. ^^

I have a question tough, can one tell just by looking at the machine, the difference between an MRI scanner and a CT one?

  • @pinkshrimp Oh yes, the CT doesn't have so long a tunnel and is not as big.

  • I had one of these yesterday, i wondered what the constant chirping in the background was, i hear it in this one too!

  • I'm having one done in the new year, I'm scared though :/

  • @Amylouise28 me too! Im very clostaphobic so that looks like we gonna have a problem :(

  • I had a panic attack in there too after 10 mins. I felt clostrophobic. Closed in and trapped.. The noises were horrible and became louder and louder. Although I had ear plugs in I could still hear it.. I pressed the panic button, but they took so long getting me out that I shuffled down the tunnel, and came out feet first. It was a very unpleasant experience for me.

  • The MRI equipment is a really clever piece of technology that detects problems associated with brain, heart, muscles and cancer.

  • Do MRI's involve needles? Injections? Removal of clothing? Please reply.

  • why dont u use a body coil for signals ??

  • Very interesting to see what actually happens here. MRI's are really scary but this is a very cool video

  • No it doesnt take that many minutes for an mri scan for me it took like an hour

  • I hate the noise

  • hello i was jsut wondering do u av 2 have and injection for the mri scan?

  • @MaddyMiaShow they usally insert a canula in the back of your hand the inject cotrast to make the pictures more vivid

  • False advertising your head goes in like a cage, not on a pillow and there's no ending.

  • @ABIGAILNUTTALL LOL dude. haha

  • @ABIGAILNUTTALL actually the setup for this scan is correct. the scan being performed dictates what position and what coils (head cage) are used. your head is put in a "cage" for exams like brains, orbits, IACs, and vessels inside your head. this video actually shows the setup for a lumbar spine exam, in which case their head is on a pillow and you go in feet first, with the centering just above the top of the pelvis. hope this helps:)

  • Hi had a panic attack in there and had to come out after 20 minutes

  • wtf is scary bout this?

  • @violawwe errm cos theres no ending and your head is trapped in a cage and the noise freaks people out and thye bed shakes

  • lol my friend had to redo the scan because he got an erection halfway through

  • notice that the doc or NURES dosent volunteer for the MRI scan... i had a scan before... cant think as sharply as i use to. no joke.

  • lol the brand is "SEIMENS"

  • Comment removed

  • @ciaram535 well it will probaly pick her up and crush her

  • i've gotten 3 mri scans in the past 7 months, 2 in just less than a month and one 7 months ago. is that good? : o

  • @AcursedBlade there are no known long term or short term biological effects associated with MRI, so long as the technologist is made aware of any and all metallic objects inside of your body.

  • what's that repeating sound that the scanner makes? something to do with the helium?

  • @happyguy82 - It's actually the sound of the electromagnets. The field strength is altered during the scan, causing a wide range of sounds as the magnets are rapidly switched on and off during the procedure. You're normally given ear protection (the headset you can see) and sometimes music is played through the headset. Hope that helps!

  • @AllianceMedical Hi, Thanks. No I wasn't referring to the tapping sound. When I stepped into the MRI room, even before I got on the table, the machine was making this psst psst psst sound all the time and it doesn't stop. It can be heard at the start of this video too. What's that? Thanks.

  • @happyguy82 - Yes, your hunch is correct - the psst psst sound is the compressor for the helium which is the cooling system for the magnet.

  • @AllianceMedical That was a good demonstration of a person pretending to have an MRI scan I've never had one in my life

  • @AllianceMedical I thought there was a bird inside.

  • @happyguy82 that is the sound of the helium pumps cooling down the magnets

  • @AllianceMedical No in this case it is the sound of the liquid cooling system for the magnet. The magnet has to be cooled down to be superconductiv. When no person is lying in the MRI or being scanned, the gradient magnets are turned off. So there are no loud noises, like you can hear.

  • @AllianceMedical My dads had some of these done

  • @happyguy82l helium to cool the magnets they produce a lot of heat when in operation

  • @broncosbill I don't think it's to do with keeping them cool because they get hot, it's to do with keeping them as cool as possible so they don't produce any resistance at all, therefore keeping the running costs down. The hotter a metal becomes the more energy it loses, so they are trying to achieve the opposite, cooling it down keeps all the energy in the magnets, thus minimum energy loss, thus cheaper to run, MUCH cheaper.

  • I was hoping for a scientific explanation

  • Hey man, what about the needle part? You didn't show them injecting the person with dye!!

  • This actually helped me. I'm fourteen and getting an MRI in two days, on my lower Spinal Cord. I've had two when I was nine, and I am absolutely terrified. But this really helped me over come my fear a little bit, thank you :)

  • @Cakenator514 hi im 14 and have to have my first mri on my brain tommorow :S im kinda scared too.. good luck for your scan :)

  • @iGemz Thank you! It went really well, but I don't know the results yet. Good luck on your scan! I actually had an MRI on my brain when I was nine, and I was terrified, but the people were very nice and it was no sweat :)

  • @Cakenator514 I am having one this week. I hope you are feeling better.

  • i am soooo scared to do my MRI i need help not to b scared

  • if the ear plugs metal why are they being used more mri scan? what are they made of?

  • isn't having a camera next to the machine dangerous?

with the magnetic field and all?

  • @happyking9 - Yes, we had to shoot the video through the doorway as well as use an exterior microphone - most metals aren't allowed in the room because of the magnetic field.

  • @happyking9 from the shake of the video it appears that they zoomed in from far.

  • i had mine like a week ago its sooo boring

  • Had mine today. Yes it was a bit noisy even with earplugs but it did sort of sound like a tecno song lol... It was a brain scan so they had cushions around my head to help keep me from moving - quite cozy actually and i felt very comfortable. Blanket too. I was able to wear my regular clothes. It took about 20 minutes.

  • @Chenions im getting one soon and im kinda scared ...not just because of my brain injury but because my ears are extremly sensitive due to a injury when i was younger.....do u think the mri will severely hurt my hearing or cause me to run out of the scan machine even with earplugs???

  • @awesomecaws they give you headphones to wear that deaden the noise, i just had one two days ago and i have hearing problems and it didnt hurt my ears :)

  • i had mine yesterday , it was about 45 mins , but i liked it because for some reason i like small spaces and i like the noises . it was kinda like parts of a techno song :)

  • Mine lasted over an Hour it was noisy and very convined in there and i nearly got trapped in there as i have a Belly like Homar Simpson.....DO'H!

  • I had mine today. It's so not that simple.

It took forever and the hole was small.

I think I found out that I'm claustrophobic.

  • Last time I got an MRI I completely lost control of my bowels and defecated all over myself and the apparatus.

  • my aunt works for siemens

  • i once had one cuzz i randomly KO`d! dont know how thats called in enlish! in dutch it is epileptie!

  • got my MRI scan yesterday. It made imagine I was an Avatar operator :)

  • I am getting mine in about 3 hours from now.

Is it just me or could that logo easily have the The Umbrella Company?

Can just imagine the "Our Business is Life Itself" ;)

  • My MRI's all took me an hour and a half to get a full head scan. Funny how he never mentioned the panic "button."

  • Comment removed

  • i have a very large phobia of hospitals, MRI Scans, Clausthophobia. if i ever get into a MRI machine i'll shit my pants.

  • most boring experience of my life lmao

  • that hospital looks the bolox ! lol

  • i went for an mri last week iam ten i was scared at first but its fine after 5 mins you can watch tv i had one on my leg i have a lump on my knee he told me wat i had when i was finshed but i had to get a jag in the vain in my arm i couldnt feel it though i got it numed nothing to worry about but IT IS NOISEY

  • and cold it took me 45 mins on my back 25 mins on my knee

  • @connormri I know how you feel! I had to have two when I was nine- One on my lower spinal cord and one on my brain, and I'm going for another one in two days. Although I'm fourteen now, I'm still really scared! xD

  • what do you have to wear wen u go to get an mri scan?

  • it dipends on with part off the boday you getting it done i got it done on my knee i wore my trousers

  • so if it's for your head, u can just wear regular clothes?

  • @trancebubble I think it's safe to say that (in terms of cloths), you can wear anything you want. HOWEVER, before going into the actual machine, you have to remove any kind of metal objects from your body, (i.e. jewelry, piercings etc.). The last MRI I had was a few years ago. I had to take off my wrist watch and my glasses before going into the machine.

  • That's correct!

There is usually an exception for wedding rings. As long as the rings are made from metals like real gold or silver - these are not attracted to the magnet.

  • nothing

  • in australia.. you go in headfirst

  • depends on what is closer to the magnet

if ur feet are damaged then its ur feet that go in

  • Same in America

  • @Compro1345

not if you're scanning the knee
