  • i love st. paul airport

  • I remember my first time w/ the instructor ... I had gone from an ERJ-145 to MD-80 and it was wow!

  • MD-80s are some powerful a/c

  • What a short flight! MD-80's are not bad but Iperfer MD-88's.

  • RWY 4 is the RAREST RWY TO LAND ON! Only heavies go on that.... Holy crap!

  • @Jonahair747meteorsTV It was runway 22 and it all depends on the winds. They were out of the southwest that day, so it was the only runway in use.

  • @b7e7 oh lol, RWY 22 and 4 I get mixed up

  • @b7e7 I've never landed on that one either.

  • amazing!! love the md-80!!! :D

  • damn did u c tht american eagle in the beginning? those things really book it on takeoff

  • TOO BAD THAT THEY DON'T MAKE THESE KINDS OF AIRCRAFT ANY MORE! I feel cheated. We ought to begin a petition directed to Boeing saying that we want more MD-80s/90s !!

  • THIS IS NOT ENGINE SOUND, THIS IS SYMPHONY!!!!

  • What engines are used on these? They are clearly hi-bypass but no idea what models.

  • This has to be the most inhuman, unfriendliest airport ever conceived.

  • @antimatterXXXIII DFW that is - Texas style super suckage - compare to MSP, a nice, grassy, human airport that functioned perfectly fine as a hub for NWA for decades.

  • b.e.a.utiful engine sound! Thanks for posting!

  • let me guess, seat 27A. I've been on an MD-80 before. i think that 737s are boring. i liked the MD-80 i did a round trip fron LAX to DFW. going to dallas, i was in seat 27A and coming back, I was in seat 30F. very awsome plane and is this seat 27A

  • the md80 was the best airplane.

  • Its a MD-82

  • I like the sound of those engines.

  • I like the sounds of those engines.

  • is this seat 27A

  • This is a really great video and is shows a relatively rare approach over downtown St. Paul. Thanks for posting!

  • Short flight only 8 minutes and 57 seconds.

  • Being an artist, I sense several beauties that many travelers and vacationers take for granted - like the whining of the engines, the perspectives of depths on the world below, the clouds accompanying us in the heavens and the monochromatic textures of the metal on the wing.

  • @ossi131096 Oh yeah, and the 737 and A320 are so exciting. The MD-80 and 90 are very different from each other and add some variety to things. A world of 737s and A320s is what is boring.

  • @b7e7 yeah i agree as much as i like the 737 and a320, md-80 is fantastic!!

  • @b7e7 You can't beat that roar on takeoff though. You don't get that as much from an 737 or a320 (Unless IAEV2500 engines)!

  • how long was the flight?

  • @TheKai891 Flying time is about 1:40 or so.

  • Music to my ears too...love those high and low contrasting engine sounds, and oscillations that settle and synchronize into a singular tone. As a composer, I just sent you 'GAROTA', inspired by flying, and as a private pilot, I enjoyed your video... thanks.

  • I think these planes are awesome, while i was flying to Munich from Chisinau i saw one land and it was one old,but pretty cool, what suprised me is that i thought they all retired, but it's 2010,and they are still in service.

  • dallas fortworth to minneapolis saint paul...

  • i love the sound of the thrust reverse on landing and the smell.

  • taking off is my favorite part of flying.

  • gotta love the good `ol JT8D's . I'll miss em when they're all gone

  • msp = Minneapolis St Paul World Chamberlin International Airport .....the md80/88/90 and DC 9/30/40/50 are very reliable aircraft...it is a shame we are loosing these birds to the desert.

  • Excellent vid!

  • boeing 717 sounds way better

  • You do know the 717 was really developed from McDonnell Douglas. MD-95 actually.

  • exelente video, very good you video....

  • Flew one from KJFK to Orlando... Was sitting in the back. Love the roaring sound of the engines.

  • You know, I really like the exterior aesthetics of the MD80. The long and slender body is really elegant. But 80's can really be a tough bird when you're flight is more than 3 hours and the plane is packed. No amenities except the bathroom

  • You got a point but 4 hours to California ...I needed a brake from the sound of the engines ..

  • ive flown md 80's ..just dont sit in the back ..

    very loud ..

  • That is exactly why you DO sit in the back! The best sound in the air!

  • Hahaha Yes WOOT MD - 80!

  • @b7e7 Amen to that! That's the whole point. :-)

  • @b7e7 Agree, True aircraft lovers would ride

on the engine itself if possible.

  • @b7e7 hard to listen to an Ipod though or take a nap if your on a red eye or late nighter.

  • @cakedude063 that's the best place to sit!!!

  • my fav aircraft is the md-80 was it nice inside did u have inflight service.

  • BEAUTIFUL LANDING

  • YEAH! DAMN GREAT JT8D ENGINE SOUND!!! Expecially during take off, love it!

  • MSP actually stands for Minneapolis St. Paul

  • Those P&W engines sure sound cool

  • The next GTA City!!!

  • Where were you going to???

  • look into the description........

  • I meant exact airport, not codes, I dont know what MSP stands for!!!

  • i think im not shure msp means mississippi

  • Use Google and others that have replied....MSP is Minneapolis/St. Paul. The Mississippi divides the two, and the river starts in Minnesota...but far from the state.

  • Never mind, I found out its Minneapolis!!!

  • right ;) Just google it like this "MSP ICAO", then u get it :)

  • Here's another little Maddog detail: Back in the 90's, I flew on these things all the time. Just about every time, from boarding until beginning the takeoff roll, the ailerons would be skewed, often fully up or down. When starting the roll, the wind would quickly straiten them out. Not any more. Prolly made people a little nervous.

  • ya they still do that md80 rules!!!

  • I noticed the flaps weren't extended quite all the way. Odd. Perhaps a minor malfunction. It would explain the seemingly zippy landing and full blast thrust reversers.

  • The MD-80 was actually built for the 80's and It lasted through the 90's and it still exsisit today

  • well its quality haha...

  • Looked like a landing on runway 22 if I'm not mistaken (used to work at MSP). Winds must have really been blowing that day if ATC was using just the one runway.

  • What seat were you in??

  • 27A

  • Great MD landing. The landing looks very fast.

  • I want to go on a plane ride

  • when i was younger, i was on an MD-80, and i was sitting right next to the engine. it broke down and we had to do an emergency landing... scariest moment of my life. it's still a great plane.

  • Thats the reason I dont like flying :(

  • Which one´s better? Maddog Md-82 or Coolsky´s MD-80 Pro...

  • coolsky needs a suepr pc maddog not too much compared to the coolsky one ... i use the maddog and i think is better.

  • Great video excellent sound I love the maddog, flown in it a lot of times, has a very distinctive sound, and I just love the thud of the main gear locking in position after takeoff, it's steep rate of climb and all the thrust adjustments before landing... all the way until thrust goes into idle for touchdown... all that sensation of relief. Great video pal, keep 'em coming.

  • i love the super 80, it is such a comfortable plane, much better than the 738 in my opinion, it has such a smooth quiet ride

  • I didn't believe you until I got a chance to compare them on different legs of a journey. Unbelievable difference. In this case, an MD90 in first class vs the back of a 738. WOW! Absolutely smooth, quiet, and a real pleasure in the Mad Dog.

  • msp airport is such a good airport. i love flying around the twin cities. thats a great video

  • Every one should try the washroom at the back of an MD80.. The noise and vibration..!! I flew Stockholm - Manchester on SAS which was excellent..

  • Gotta tell ya.....I love the whine of those Pratt & Whitney Engines, especially when the pilots are flooring the throttle on takeoff

  • a nice plane just not very fuel efficient which will phase them out at 1200 gallons being burned compared to 800 with the 737-800

  • the mad dogs are great aircraft known for comfort and their sound. i used to be a pilot for delta airlines and i mostly flew the md-88 and md-90 while i was in service. the one you had was laggy because it has a loud roaring backround thats from winds. it kind of disables that sound to seem perfect. nice video.

  • I LOVE THAT NOISE

  • Nice! GOtta love the Mad Dog!

By the way are those planes at 7:28 757-300s?

  • The first one is, the second one appears to be a -200.

  • soon i'll be going to orlando from calgary YYC-DFW MD-80 DFW-MCO 757 and back both flights MD-80.

  • Nice i am going on KSLC-KMCO-Delta 737-800

  • they are very noisy in back, but up front you hardly hear the engines.

  • I,ve flown this trip many times on AA MD-80'S

  • im flying to chicago soon. are the md-80s a decent aircraft?

  • they are old, but comfortable. They are quite loud, but only to people on the ground. They do sound cool on takeoff.

  • how long was this flight?

  • Under two hours flying time. Left the gate at 3:30 on the dot, pulled in at MSP at 5:35.

  • Whats up with the buzzing noise? Is that the turbines? I don't recall ever hearing that on amy southwest planes!

  • It is just the sound of the P&W JT8D engines. You won't hear it on the GE CFM engines that the 737 has.

  • oh, ok, cool. It seems as though it can only be heard upon full thrust.

  • good point! an a330 wont make the same noise as a 767. (example)

  • that sound of those turbines r soooooo!!!!!!!!great i love that sound sooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!! butiful i love flying md80 its a great plane!!!!!!!!!!!

  • AA and Delta are the last major airlines flying the Mad Dog 80s on regular services. More than 20 years since it first flew, the MD-80 is still a surprisingly graceful plane to fly. They will be deeply missed when both AA and Delta replace them with 737-800s (which is VERY soon) so enjoy the MD-80s while they're still there...

  • ya thanks ............

  • different engines make different sounds,my favorite is the RB211 on the L1011.

  • Comment continued.

McDonnell Douglas built the MD 88 specifically for Delta Airlines (talk about customer service!).

Did you also know that eventhough the MD 88's were designed and the first one built later than many of the other MD 80's, the last MD 80 (83) rolled off the assembly line much later than the last MD 88.

That last MD 83 was delivered to TWA and it is most likely somewhere in American's fleet.

  • Did you now the FAA considers the MD80 (81,82, and 83) different aircraft from the MD88 eventhough they look almost the same? The MD88 had a different FAA certification from the other MD80 line. McDonnell Douglas built the MD 88 specifically for Delta Airlines (talk about customer service!).

  • Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... and away we go!

  • Very nice, love the sound of the mighty Mad Dog! Nothing like it.
