Well just because the Mavericks sing it better than the guy who wrote it don't mean you all got to argue who has the bigger dick unless it's important you suck first I suppose. Lots of them kinda "THANGS" happen in the world, when Tom Waitts sings "Stone Blind Love" you can't understand a goddamn word. I think it took Bob Seger to do it right, but thats just personel preferance becuause if Tom didn't wite it, ol' Bad Bob never would have got the oppertunity to fix what was wrong. Burp.S.O.T.123
I agree... they rip on this song. But it is Bruce's song.Raul Malo has a great voice! But all that don't like Bruce versions can listen to their Manford Mann records and maybe the Byrd's over Dylan Beatle's over Isley's etc It's all good music and covers are a way of looking at a song in different way. Like em' all here!
Raul Malo could/ can/ and will always be able to sing any damned song he chooses! This song fron the Boss's (IMO) most underrated solo L.P. will prove a testament to that comment!
It's amazing what an influence Springsteen, a guy from New Jersey, has had on country music. "Tunnel of Love" was like a pioneering country album, even though it wasn't country at all.
Actually Springsteen has been widely covered by country acts since at least Darness on the Ede of Town (1978) off which Emmy Lou Harris covered Racing in the Street.
The Nebraska (1982) and Ghost of Tom Joad (1995) albums, especially.
I'm sure. The album came out in 1994 and lead guitarist Nick Kane(who is performing on here) joined shortly after that album was recorded. But this song was released as a single in 1995,so this performance was either from 1994 or 1995.
Just exactly what a 1970 Chevy half-ton with some fence posts in back and a pint of Walker's Delux under the seat sounded like back in the day. Damn straight.
I had never seen Tammy's show at all - don't know why. She's the greatest. This song by Raul and the guys is one I am hearing for the first time. He has a fantastic voice and the band is quite a wonderful addition to good country sound. Every time I see the drummer I love the way he shows he's enjoying his music - really gettin' on with the beat. You don't see that too often. Each musician is so talented and they always sound so classy - look nice, too. Thanks for posting. - Paula
Love this song! Anyone post studio version? Thanks!

Check, Ocross the Border, from Ghost.

Ummm nah not really.

@srvinfinity Seriously, have you heard Mr. Springsteen's version?
How do you think these guys would have done with the song if he didn't write it.
I *am* sure he appreciates the royalties.
