Tysons style of fighting was only ever going to be short lived. Alis career lasted longer because his style was a lot less aggressive. I can't think of many fighters who were so vicious in the heavyweight division.

Thing is Ali had a very good background; he was from a white, middle class neighbourhood, he had a steady family life so he had the tools to deal with adversity. Tysons background was appalling; his whole life was adversity. Tyson knew much more about the black experience in America than Ali (as did Frazier). Tyson was a great fighter before jail and a half decent one after.

Tysons problem is that he was fed a diet of easy fighters which would have done nothing for his ring stamina or savvy or physical and mental conditioning. He claimed the title from a champ we all knew he would beat . Ali at 22 took it from a man the world said he could not beat.

At the start of alis career as champ white america hated him as he projected himself as a black superman and belonged to a religion that said white people were devils. There were at least two attempts on his life. He was stripped of his title and for some 3 or 5 years was not allowed to fight.....

Many fighters Tyson faced weren't scared of him and he still won in a very convincing fashion. Ali was a great boxer but won many of his bouts going backwards. He was dropped by Cooper (a journeyman) and lost to Frazier and Norton and then Spinks who only had eight fights. When he fought Clevland Williams, Williams still had a bullet in him!

He didn't have the opportunity to fight Douglas again and by the time he got out of jail he was on a downslide both physically and emotionally. He is also well known for having solid chin.

Tyson is one of my favorite boxers of all time, but he went so far down just before and after prison, now alot of this was bc of his trainer dying but you see a guy like Mike Vick coming out of prison and lighting the NFL on fire and you could argue that boxing is easier to train for behind bars than professional football so why couldn't tyson come back even if not quite as explosive as when cus was training him and before Don King
