@rolocopoand i wouldnt exactly say they have made the song "poppy". i would say they have modernised it. you should appriciate whats left of this kind of music cause the killers are probably one of the closest bands to it.
why is everyone talking about the killers like they were trying to be better than joy division? that's not why people make covers its because they were INSPIRED by the bands they are covering. if anything you guys should see it as the killers having good taste in music cause they like joy division.
I wonder if Kurt Cobain liked Joy Division. He never mentioned them to my knowledge. He liked a lot of good bands. You'd think Unknown Pleasures would have made his best album list.
with this type of music he could have just stood there stolidly. that would have been fine, but instead he dances like that and it takes away all of my insecurities.
thats not funny....... Ian is my favorite artist.... and my best friend also has seizures...... I would love for you to wake up on the floor some day not knowing what happened, then someone tells you you had a seizure, then when you go to talk you realize you bit ur tongue, i'd love for you to fucking make a joke like that afterwards, you fucking cunt rag, go to fucking hell
@Campbz Oh, lighten up, your seriousness makes me want to roll my eyes...into the back of my head, while I collapse backward in convulsions, losing control of all of my motor functions, snared in a frightening, nightmarish jolt of utter terror, desperately trying to keep myself from choking on my own tongue...i've...i've lost control again
To see the BEST documentary on Joy Division, use the youtube search bar with "JOY DIVISION DOCUMENTARY PART 1" then click link for "JOY DIVISION DOCUMENTARY (1/10)." Interviews with all surviving members, engineers, managers, girlfriends... people who were actually there... lots of archival audio/film, places in Manchester that don't exist anymore, even audio of Ian hypnotised. The REAL CONTEXT of the place and time that spawned Joy Division, the books, the ideas, records Ian listened to.
why do you say this when Joy Division are one of the killers most favoured bands, and always speak incredibly highly of them, the killers did a cover to honour this great song, theres no harm in that! tard...
meh. killers didnt ruin it. they did a modern interpretation of it. personally i love it, but i gotta give credit to joy division for being the original creators of this epic song lol
lol blow me. the killers fuckin rock. the recording is better, so are the vocals. but you have to give cretid to joy division. the song itsself is amazing
killers are dancers...u put ur faith in the hands of a group of hopeless sell outs....i put my faith in JD. By the way thats a v intelligent comment. Starting with blow me and failing to spell credit...i no its hard...maybe u should leave discussion to people with the ability to discuss.
Love the footage but this is too fast. The song loses its ominous brooding quality at this clip. The television performance of this song is mesmerizing.
I decide to listen to both versions before i commented again. While i have listened to joy division i will admit i was one of those stupid people that didnt know shadowplay was a cover. I think that both bands did a great job on the song. They both put their own talent into it and came out with completely different sounding songs.
Mate, thanks very much for uploading this. Fucking good!

The Killers is probably the most overrated band ever.
Joy Division, the best band of the late 70's. Ian Curtis was a genius. Poor guy.

Coldplay is far more overrated.

I liked this specific live performance of Shadowplay--liked the extra speed they gave it.Ian Curtis does his epileptic dance too...
Chaossspirit 3 years ago
Version on les bains douches is VERY good too if you've not heard it!
pathammond 3 years ago
Are ye sure it isn't just called shadowplay, because of eh...the expression? Shadowplay? shadows dancing.
there's probably multiple interpretations anyway and meanings.
Main thing is Killers ruined this song.
pathammond 3 years ago 7
the thing with the killers cover is that it is lightyears away from the original's mood - not even close...
giorgossssss 3 years ago
Exactly, it's like they just didn't GET joy division, despite being fans. Really disconcerting...
