I enjoy your videos. I certainly love that pipe. I try to make informative videos myself, not just ramble on. Book reviews, etc, My last one was on my favourite pipes.Another was on my collections, watches and pipes. Keep 'em coming Pops.
I think there's definitely some narcissism involved in filming oneself doing anything, in fact I tell myself every time I turn on the damn camera that a normal person wouldn't be doing something like this hahaha. Glad some people do, though.
IMHO any video posted of oneself on youtube is an excercise in narcism. My personal choice would be to have something entertaining to say or offer up a topic for discussion rather than minutes and minutes of watching someone show us the pipe he or she is smoking and then ramble on. Unless of course the ramblings are about guitars, dinosaurs, philosophy, politics, space exploration or dwindling resources. Then I'm all about it. Happy puffing.
First I got a kick out of your video and liked it with one exception. That Claw is coloring beautifuly and I would have liked to see it longer and have you tell us what brand, How long you have been coloring it and do you add wax? Jason
@JJJUSCFAN8 Hi Jason, It's the CAO signed Beckler that you encouraged me to start smoking about 4 or 5 months ago. I'll show it better in my next video. I just started adding wax.
@OldNorthernSmoky I have never found your videos boring. They are always informative and entertaining. I've had to trash a few of mine after I watched them too. LOL
I view my YT subscribers as real friends. Friends who can't be here with me in person, to do things or share things with. Therefor, since we share the common bond of being pipesmokers, there will always be that element included in my videos but I also like to share activities and things that I enjoy, where I INCLUDE pipesmoking in the activity, like fishing or camping for example. I just don't have enough pipe related stuff to say or show to be an active member of the community on just that.
@Charredbriar Hi Ken, Your videos are always informative and entertaining whether pipe related or not. There are some in the community that make videos with zero content and seem to just want to see their face on the screen. As I told Flieger, I think a psychologist would have a field day watching our community's videos. LOL
@oldpipepops Thanks for the support, Pops! I know there's a few out there that don't feel the way you do...I've got wind of their viewpoints but you can't please everyone I guess... :)
Hmm... isn't narcissism part of why we do this rather bizarr thing in the first place? :) But yes, I see what you mean. There's a point when it all becomes pure egocentrism. This may sound pompous, but i try to take a step back and watch my own videos before I post them... and ask myself the question: Would I watch this? More then a few has gone to the bin after that.
@Flieger671 I think you're right Mike. I have felt a little guilty of catering to my narcissism ever since I started making videos. I watch mine before I post them too and have also thrown a few out . Yours are never boring and always interesting. I think a psychologist would have a field day watching this community's videos. LOL
I'm on the line with this one. I like quality videos, but even when some one puts out a video saying hi and I'm smoking this or that and having a nice day. I like them to and they keep me watching so quanity is nice also, but thanks for sharing man I like your thoughts on a lot of things keep it up.
There must be a point where you either realize you have nothing worthwhile to present and stop making videos, or you just don't care and bore everyone. However, there a people on YouTube that I'd watch if they were discussing nearly any topic, so I think a lack of creativity may lead to boring videos...if you get my drift.
Great job, pops! As someone who posts fairly rarely I have to admit I was a little put off by the quality & quantity question but there is a balance there that I can see. So far from the comments & video responses I've seen almost everyone can agree on that they like videos that feel like the presenter is talking & visiting with them more than anything else. So maybe likability plays a factor in there than just the other 2 qualities combined.Be likable & people will watch, content or no content.
@metropolismodern Good point. There are some presenters that are so likable I could watch and listen to them talk about nothing for hours, while others have abrasive personalities that make good content difficult to watch.
Yes I agree with you , some people put alot of videos out which mean that some guys have nothing else to do or no cares to worry about. Content is what I like to see in videos . Something informative is always great

I'm in the same boat as you. I try to go more for content as opposed to quantity, though i must admit, some of my videos get boring...

@ThomasAWilliam I don't find your videos boring. Especially your guitar playing. LOL
